They would be the 15th full member and UCONN is rumored to be the 16th. Would be glad to see Notre Dame join a conference finally. I would rather see WVU join instead of UCONN since they have better bball and football or wild card Temple to gain some of that Jersey market back.
Notre Dame to the ACC? - (
New Window )
For a 16th team, I'd prefer Cincinnati over UConn. Both teams tried to become a member of the conference, but were shut down. Cincy has a lot bigger football program than UConn.
WVU got their wish when they joined the Big 12 and the way conferences structure their contracts, it is cost prohibitive to leave.
Yes, I know, the Huskies have not improved as much as hoped at football, but they've put a ton of effort and dollars into improving that and all of their sports programs. Please let it happen! Get Uconn out of purgatory.
If I was going to suggest a random option (without knowing the machinations of this), I would toss Rutgers out there. They're in over their head in the B1G, and at least the geographic footprint of the ACC makes sense for them.
The ACC is still a basketball conference first and foremost; UConn fits that more than any other program.
With that said, UConn is going to be stuck in the AAC for awhile.
Still a ways to go for the Huskies as Notre Dame is still a wild card to say the least

Rutgers would owe millions of dollars to leave and join the ACC. The BIG didn't just go out and get Rutgers and the NY market just have them leave again. I suggest WVU because of A) there sports programs B) natuaral rivalries from the big east C) Big XII is the Conference that will eventually disappear and is the less lucrative conference.
However, Cinicinati as someone tossed out makes the most sense. Would give the ACC a team in the Ohio market which is something they don't touch. The ACC technically has the NY market with Syracuse. It just isn't in the city.

my thoughts are Screw Uconn, it was their AD who started the lets crumble the big east. I bet Uconn and Cuse wish they were still in the BE for basketball.
As for Uconn there would have been no chance 3 years ago but the ad they indicially sued is retired and the bc president they also individually sued should be retiring within the year. That means that a lot of the internal voting forces are no longer there opposing UConn.
Cincy is more likely, imo
Yup. It's not the same without the double round robin schedule. There were no arguments about favorable schedules then - everyone played everyone else twice. It was perfect.

Cincinatti. New York market, and also a sorely needed regional rivalry with BC. And BC at this point has not delivered much to that conference, being that they SUCK and all...

You're kidding, right? BC was the first to jump ship, if memory serves.
Uconn started the destruction of the BE? Revisionist history much?
The fact was that if you are a football first school the old big east just wasnt a good option. Blame leadership in Providence on that.
There. I feel better.
Most ND fans are already annoyed with having to play so many ACC games to begin with and the team is already locked in under the current arrangement so the bball team is safe. Only real benefit to ND from joining the conference full time would be access to the ACC title game, especially if it becomes an auto-bid to a 6 team playoff in the future.

I think ND is kind of getting squeezed to do it. The playoff committee has put an emphasis on wining your conference to a certain degree. The Irish would have to be undefeated or have 1 close loss to a great team to get in at this point. That and as someone mentioned their TV deal is in jeopardy.
However, if ND is going to join full time, then adding UConn makes the makes sense. It is already a good basketball school and has been able to produce competitive football teams. It fills a geographic gap between BC and Syracuse. Creating a 16 team league would enable to 8 team divisions which would allow for more creative scheduling of a North vs. South style divisions.
With Clemson, FSU, Miami and ND, the ACC would have four powerhouse football schools who have won national titles.
UConn can certainly had its own in basketball and its recruiting would probably improve in the ACC.

Trying to say they will only join a conference if forced to. ACC payout isn't close to what the B1G gives and the D be a full member right away with their clout
Alright man, you "stopped reading" when they mentioned UConn? Cool. BC is a laughing stock in both football and basketball right now so I'm not sure you should talk.
And OP...West Virginia is only better at bball than UConn right now BECAUSE of the conference affiliation. UConn is head and shoulders above West Virginia from a basketball marketability standpoint, and if they got in the ACC they would be right back to Big East UConn status (oh ya know the team that won 4 Natty's between 99 and '14).
