Can Khalid Abdullah make the team?

bigfish703 : 5/15/2017 10:40 pm
I just looked at Abdullah's highlight tapes & he looks better than any one already on the roster. He is smooth, has great burst, excellent vision, several gears, & amazing moves. On one one sequence I saw him change directions 3 times before he even got to the line of scrimmage.

I know that he was not doing this against the best college defenses but he cannot help that & the Giant scouts judged him good enough to sign. I am no scout but I loved what I saw. He looks like a Perkins with better burst. My only questions are: (1) is he strong enough to break initial arm tackles? & (2) can he block well enough to protect Eli?

On a team now crowded with RBs, will he get a chance to show what he can do in camp & Preseason games (if he gets that far)?

I think it is time to jettison some of the other RBs like Darkwa & Draughn, whose capabilities we know, & try some new blood who may have greater potential.

What do you think of Abdullah?
I think he was undrafted for a reason
Giantsfan79 : 5/15/2017 10:42 pm : link
he also played division 1AA instead of 1A for a reason. It also sucks for his chances the Giants drafted a RB. Not saying he doesn't have a chance but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Practice squad seems like a positive outcome.
to be fair though
Giantsfan79 : 5/15/2017 10:44 pm : link
unless Draughn really kicks ass, he should get cut because keeping him hurts our comp draft picks next year.
JMU Alum here!
BleedBlue : 5/15/2017 10:53 pm : link
watched the Dukes alot this season, kid can play. if he makes the team who knows, but he has a legit PS chance IMO. I think he is going to have a chance to be a decent back. all he did was gain positive yards at JMU.
I know his 40 time is slow, but something about him
CT Charlie : 5/15/2017 11:35 pm : link
makes him look really hard to tackle. It's like he's there, but he's not. Would love to see him on PR or KR duty, if he has the hands.
Also, only 1 fumble

in 298 carries.
Who was the RB the Giants had in last year?
81_Great_Dane : 5/15/2017 11:52 pm : link
Super-productive back, short-ish, amazing highlight reel, didn't even get a sniff.

It's very tough for these guys. If they're not good in the passing game as both receivers and blockers, they don't last long. And most of them weren't asked to do that in college.

Gallman was smart to go back for another year to work on all that stuff.
He's not fast and is smaller than the average NFL RB.
TC : 5/15/2017 11:58 pm : link
I don't think he's better than Perkins, and may not be better than Gallman.

He looks good in his highlights, but I don't see WOW. And players that look good in school, but don't have great measurables often look less than average when they start playing against NFL talent.

Perkins and Gallman are locks. And I don't see a skill set in him that could supplant either. We'll have to see what the other RB's on the roster can do compared to him.

I only suggested that he could replace Draughn or Darkwa, not Perkins.

Abdullah might make a good backup. This team is shaping up to be the deepest of any Giant team since the 2011 one & that is one of its exciting aspects. Injuries during the season are inevitable & it is good to know that adequate replacements are available at most positions.

Team depth is one of the things that are getting me excited about the coming season.
Maybe PS

This team is starting to have depth in several areas.

I wouldn't discount Draughn as he did well for a lousy SF team that had nothing.

If we sign Blount....and carry 3 QBs....we both won't be carrying anyone unless they Excell on specials
Also keep in mind
Giantsfan79 : 5/16/2017 7:29 am : link
Without going through jmu's season, it doesn't look like he played against anyone who's going to be in the league. Can he still break tackles and not fumble at this level?
Every player's highlights look good.
Ira : 5/16/2017 7:34 am : link
That's why they're called highlights.

Draughn's a veteran who can play specials. We have a lot of guys competing at RB this year which is a good thing.

PS for Abdullah would be my guess.
He's fighting for a spot on the practice squad

Boy ain't that the truth. I watch these highlight clips that are put together by the player or his agent and virtually ever player looks like the second coming of Walter Payton or Jerry Rice or Lawrence Taylor.

There's a reason that 99.9999% of what they did on the field during their college career is cut out of the film and laying on the floor. Every player has a few great moments and that is all that the clip will ever show.

Never trust highlight clips of players on YouTube except for entertainment value. The scouts of the organization study that 99.999% of the film that's left out. And for good reason
He looks smooth
SHO'NUFF : 5/16/2017 12:43 pm : link
but concerned about his slow 40.
He sure can make the team.
Jimmy Googs : 5/16/2017 12:46 pm : link
But who is he?
He has talent
Jay on the Island : 5/16/2017 9:55 pm : link
but he will likely start out on the PS if he makes it.

I think he's on the Texans now

Akeem Hunt
I think he has a shot
Phil in LA : 5/17/2017 12:34 am : link
After Perkins, Vereen and Gallman, I think we have nothing, so why not?
Anyone on the field can make the team...
Torrag : 5/17/2017 11:18 am : link
...until your cut keep the dream alive.
I watched his highlights and he looked pretty good but
Del Shofner : 5/17/2017 11:23 am : link
the competition didn't look anything like big-time college football, so it's hard to know.
