NFT: Yankees vs Royals 8:15

superspynyg : 5/16/2017 12:49 pm
CC vs Hammel

This is a good series to get back on track. The Royals have 2 good pitchers in Vargas (Wed) and Duffy (Thurs), but their hitting has not been good this season.

minors note: Blake Rutherford is starting to get hot in A ball.
He is hitting .290 with .375 obp in 33 games. He hit his first HR this season. He has 19 runs and 15 rbi's. He also has 6 SB.

Our future outfield of RF Judge, Frasier CF, Rutherford LF?? I know he has a few years to go but he is only 20 but 2020 would be a good year to expect him.

CC in a little bit of trouble for the first time,
Del Shofner : 5/16/2017 10:18 pm : link
not that they've hit him hard.
CC
Phil in LA : 5/16/2017 10:20 pm : link
having his best start in awhile.
Here we go.
Dave in Hoboken : 5/16/2017 10:22 pm : link
.
basically two infield hits and a walk and now
Del Shofner : 5/16/2017 10:22 pm : link
the bases are loaded. That's it for CC - a little bad luck for him, he pitched well tonight.
That 1-2 FB nowhere near the
section125 : 5/16/2017 10:24 pm : link
plate was a total waste of a pitch.

Too bad, he seemed to run out of gas middle of that inning.
ha - he went too far!
Del Shofner : 5/16/2017 10:27 pm : link
K for Clippard.
Clippard gets the K.
Dave in Hoboken : 5/16/2017 10:27 pm : link
Nuice.
great start by CC
RasputinPrime : 5/16/2017 10:29 pm : link
and continuing to be clutch Clippard.
Carter with his 3rd hit of the night ...

weird play!

adamg : 5/16/2017 10:43 pm : link
Can someone explain what they're saying abou t this challenge?
bases loaded for Holliday

Amazing how long it took them to figure that out.

rRling on the field - no catch, Carter caught off first - first and third, one out. Replay - catch was made, Gardner out, Didi back to 2nd - first and second, one out. Never seen one quite like it.
We'll take the run.
Dave in Hoboken : 5/16/2017 10:47 pm : link
7-0 Yanks.
jeez - Royals infield are great fielders.
Del Shofner : 5/16/2017 10:47 pm : link
But Yanks get a run, 7-0.
How is that pudgy bastid
RasputinPrime : 5/16/2017 10:48 pm : link
such a good fielder? Jeez.

7-0 but we are raking.
If not for Moustakas ad Escobar
section125 : 5/16/2017 10:49 pm : link
Yanks probably have 12 runs...
Clippard still in.
Del Shofner : 5/16/2017 10:51 pm : link
A little surprising, thought maybe we'd see Holder here.
no offense to KC - that particular food
Del Shofner : 5/16/2017 10:54 pm : link
looks kind of disgusting.
Clippy is so economical

It was about 10 minutes ago - you had to see it ... I like BBQ as much as anyone but this stack (they were showing BBQ at the stadium) was on the gross side.

It WAS frackin disgusting. Mediocre ribs on wonderbread with some slop tossed on top? Right. Pass.

Just like an ump that calls Judge out on a pitch clearly inside just to get the game done.

Thanks. It seemed like a weird play to challenge. Didn't know if they were hoping for a DP. Taking Gardner off the bases and moving the guy on third back to second makes sense to challenge for though.
Now what are the chances Girardi
adamg : 5/16/2017 11:05 pm : link
benches Carter tomorrow after he finally puts together a multi-hit game?
^^^^
Del Shofner : 5/16/2017 11:06 pm : link
They were hoping for a DP, but that would have been completely unfair to the Yanks, as Didi only went to third after the "safe" sign that was reversed.

I was questioning your taste. It wasn't disgusting. Guess you don't like BBQ.
I think it was at a famous rib house, not the stadium. But, they could keep the bread.

Thank god the umps didn't do that then. Ugh. I can't stand illegitimate uses of replay. It's bad enough as is.

About as good as people on Yankee threads bitching about Girardi for no particular reason.
and now he is pinching
RasputinPrime : 5/16/2017 11:12 pm : link
Holder. Be consistent.
no-go on the DP

Literally incrrdullous at this phenomenon. Girardi is a top 3 manager in baseball and he gets shit on by Yanks fans here. The waters he has been asked to navigate the past 7/8 seasons have been tumultuous to say the least.
Is he as great as the legendary
xman : 5/16/2017 11:38 pm : link
Joe Torre?
Birds won too, so the lead stands at 0.5.

Tough LHP in Vargas tonight.
Meh..
FatMan in Charlotte : 5/17/2017 7:54 am : link
since KC has won a World Series sooner than we have, we NEEDED to win this game 10-0 to send a message.

lol ... KC is actually facing some tough decisions as to what to do with those guys who won the WS - contracts coming up and they're not getting younger, and some of them aren't hitting either.

Best defensive left side of the infield in baseball, though - it could easily have been 10-0 last night. Vargas will be tough tonight, though. I expect we'll see Hicks, but not sure for who ...
ddon't waste your bile getting angry at the Girardi snipers.

Vargas is due for a fall
Greg from LI : 5/17/2017 9:12 am : link
He's pitched well, but his peripherals say not nearly as well as his ERA would indicate.
Gotta give it to the big fella
Stu11 : 5/17/2017 11:51 am : link
at times he's been awful but CC has come up huge 3 times already for this team- 2nd game of the season he righted the ship in a hurry, the Oriole game when we were 1-4 and last night when we had gotten a little wobbly after a rough weekend vs. the Stros.

If the Yankees lose tonight, they should just call it a season and start rebuilding again.

No sweep and no message is sent to the rest of the league. Season over.

Might as well trade all the current prospects, too, since they'll be tainted by the cowardly display of not sweeping. Tonight's game might be the most important since 2009.
