I knew that
Mike & Mike in the Morning was coming to an end, but I didn't know anything about either Mike's future at ESPN. Maybe this has been public knowledge for a while, but it's the first time I'm seeing it:
Mike Greenberg will be moving to his long-rumored new morning show on ESPN that will air weekdays from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.. While we don't know the name of that show or many of the details, it is expected be something much more like "Good Morning America" or "Live with Kelly" — a traditional morning talk show, with some traditional "SportsCenter" elements sprinkled in. |
Who the hell is a show like
that geared toward???

Not so fast - Kenny Mayne's role is expanding again!
Who tunes in to watch Mike Greenberg?
Haha, so true.
But- the new 6:00 show with J. Hill is HORRIBLE...my god how does she get her own prime time hour and people who bring value such as Werder, Stark, Kanell, LeBrun, etc get cut.
Apparently Stephen A Smith makes over 4 mil/year too to shout at the TV.
ESPN is a scrambling mess right now.
I've always found Trey "And, Oh, By The Way" Wingo to be pretty annoying.
So, you dislike about 97% of the show then?
I'm not saying it from the ole' Fuck ESPN!" attitude, but I completely agree. What sports fan wants to watch this? And furthermore, what non-sports fan would choose this over typical morning shows?
Jeter was talking the other night about how in Kalamazoo, as humbly as he could put it, baseball wasn't really a challenge for him. He was by far the best and the competition wasn't competition at all (he didn't use those words because he's Derek fucking Jeter, but that was his point). Then when he got to the minors he felt like he couldn't even make contact.
I'd assume 90% of athletes if not more had the same growing pains, and this is excluding any remotely intriguing human interest angles (growing up the ghettos, being poor, losing a mentor at an early age, etc.). There's so much they can do with the literally thousands of pro athletes people care about... and they wanna do this? I mean, Jesus.
Hardcore sports fans aren't watching this tripe. The bored housewife demographic who watches dreck like Live with Kelly or Ellen aren't leaving those shows for this. There isn't some massive Mike Greenberg fan base out there who will watch anything that involves Greenie babbling about his home life. So who is the target audience?
But that takes some effort. Mike Greenberg yammering about groceries or whatever is easy.
Greenie reading a couple of on-air promos leading into:
A 6 minute string of recorded commercials 22 and 52 minutes after EVERY hour, followed by
Greenie reading a couple more on-air promos followed by:
Discussions on Greenie’s clothes, Golic’s eating habits, their wives and kids, etc
A freestanding commercial or 2 every 4-5 minutes
Whoever’s coming up on the Penzoil Performance Hotline!
Unending discussion of whatever the Social Media buzz of the day is
A mesmerizing 10 minute discussion on a subject like the fact that Greenie’s never made pancakes
15-20 mentions of whatever provider has “Best Network…..Half the cost”
Yeah, well, that's what they said about Chevy Chase!
Wait...what?
But that takes some effort. Mike Greenberg yammering about groceries or whatever is easy.
Amen, and that's one you happen to be privy to as a Yankees fan. I'm sure the Colts or the Orioles or the Coyotes have a half dozen stories just like it.
Oh, well.
How this relates to Greeny's show? I'm assuming it's meant for a broad audience who want light sports coverage mixed with social observances/opinions to leave on in the background while they do whatever they do in the morning. Personally, I don't like in depth sports coverage in the morning. They're not popular, but I love Boomer and Carton for that reason. I get light sports coverage with a nice laugh to start the day.
on the air and he'd be more entertaining than Greenberg
Catering towards millennials and women. Bye.
I missed the 2nd half of the Spurs/ Warriors game on saturday. I tried watching sunday night and monday morning sportscenters and barely saw any highlights. Why the refusal to actually show the games??!! If you watch SC6 you barely seen any actual sports. It's absurd.
Absolutely awful.
I'm not a fan of the show Mike and Mike, but I think in a different venue people may appreciate Greenberg a little more. He uses up a lot of energy trying to carry Mike Golic, who is completely lost when he is not talking about football.
I'm actually much more nauseated by the other ESPN show that was proposed that will have Golic cohosting with Trey Wingo, who I think is currently the most obnoxious ESPN personality still with the company.
But it gets really boring
