I don't dislike Webb but hopefully he never plays a meaningful down for the Giants.
I don't understand this take. Eli is 36, by the time he's done Webb will be in his prime. Why wouldn't you want Webb to play after Eli retires?
My point is, I hope/think Eli can play another 4-5 years.
Eli has three years left on his contract and is 36 already. He'll be 39 at the end of his contract (rather, he'll turn 39 in the offseason following the end of his contract). 4-5 years is a stretch; father time is undefeated. Besides, at the end of his current contract, Eli will have (at least) two Super Bowl rings, (at least) two Super Bowl MVPs, will own every meaningful passing record for the Giants, and (hopefully) the full use of his body and faculties as he enters retirement.
I think it's beyond optimistic to project Eli any farther out than his current contract term.
Even assuming he doesn't decline anytime soon, maybe he's different from his brother, Brady and Favre and doesn't want to keep playing until he's peeled off the turf. I don't begrudge the Giants laying down a hedge bet or two at this point.
