Nat Berhe - Concussion Prone ?

Bob in Vt : 5/17/2017 3:37 pm
Kind of surprised that Nat is still on the roster. Considering his concussion history, I thought he might have hung up his cleats.

Not sure how much the Giants can depend on him. He just seems like a concussion waiting to happen at this point in his career.
he's on the roster

because he was the 2nd best safety on the team last year once Thompson was lost for the year. Adams played well for an undrafted rookie but he struggled at times. Berhe takes heads off people. Too bad he gets a concussion every other quarter of play. He's definitely a talent.

I have serious news for you-

anyone whose played a contact sport-- even basketball or soccer knows that any blow, any whiplash, any movement that causes your brain to smack the wall of your skull is basically a concussion.

I remember I used to head balls in middle school against kids that were hitting puberty ahead of me and that basically made me quit soccer.
Availability is the best ability

He is always injured. Pass🤗

and that Nat was a decent safety.

However, I just do not think the Giants can count on Nat playing several quarters without getting another severe concussion.

IMHO - If he makes the final 53, that appears to be a wasted roster spot.

Eh he was the second best Safety before Thompson got hurt
Agree with the premise of the OP.

Its almost like Will Hill where you have a talented safety that predictably can't stay on the field. Obviously totally different situations and we don't need to bring up any Hill arguments but at a certain point if a guy can't reliably stay on the field for more than a few games a season then they have little value regardless of talent.
Can't count on him
uconngiant : 5/17/2017 5:12 pm : link
That is the real issue. If he could stay healthy he would be a big help especially in the run support, but that is a huge but
He needs to be re taught how to tackle
JohnF : 5/17/2017 5:45 pm : link
Pete Carroll has been a big proponent of "rugby" tackling. This is something that is being taught in many places, and for good reason...it likely reduces the concussion risk. It's also very similar to "old fashioned" tackling technique.

This is a very interesting link. Why don't you start a new thread on this.
Ok Ira!

leading with your head is never a good thing

I don't think that Berhe was very good when he was healthy.
yatqb : 5/17/2017 6:30 pm : link
He could deliver a wallop but was poor in coverage. And typically, when he hit someone, he lead with his head and suffered a concussion.
No reason to cut him at this point
Beer Man : 5/17/2017 7:16 pm : link
They need 90 bodies in camp and he is a known commodity
If healthy, N. Behre is the 2nd best pure SS on this team right now
SGMen : 5/17/2017 8:16 pm : link
You can't say anything less until camp starts. If one of the youth shows more upside and can play specials in camp, well, you go with the younger, healthier, cheaper guy of course.

Right now, if I had to guess, our roster may just go:

SS: L. Collins, N. Behre
FS: D. Thompson, Adams and M. Thompson

Though M. Thompson has also been hurt, he too if healthy has flashed.

But I'll be honest, I'd actually love to see some UDFA's make it on ability just not sold on being lucky like that two years in a row. Unless of course injuries hit.
I thought Berhe was next in line at Safety after
Jimmy Googs : 5/17/2017 8:20 pm : link
D Thompson went down early in season, not Adams.

I think Berhe got a concussion early in the first Skins' game and actually played thru it.

Adams made his first appearance for the Giants in that game by committing a personal foul on a special teams play that nullified a punt block of all things.

That is all I have to say about Adams...
Berhe is a SS,
Doomster : 5/18/2017 5:45 am : link
not a FS....he has no speed...

And his tackling ability is over rated...

He is one of those guys that has done nothing, and yet, is looked upon as a viable backup, which he isn't.....

The safety position, is possibly the weakest position on the Giants ....outside of Collins, we have nothing......
I would be surprised
Chip : 5/18/2017 12:37 pm : link
if he plays another snap for the Giants.

I think they have some talented young players but just need to stay healthy.
berhe is a missle
BlackburnBalledOut : 5/18/2017 6:30 pm : link
he lays some huge hits but its his downfall. he is a good special teamer and reserve, idk how many snaps he'll get behind collins, adams, and thompson
More fizzle than missile
David B. : 5/20/2017 10:52 pm : link
Berhe flat-out needs to learn to not lead with his melon. I don't think the Giants are gonna get much of anything out of him or Can't-spell-Michael Thompson. Neither can stay on the field.

Be nice to be wrong.
