Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave, died Wednesday night, his representative told CNN. Cornell, 52, was in Detroit performing with Soundgarden, which had embarked on a US tour in April. Brian Bumbery, his representative, called Cornell's passing "sudden and unexpected" in a statement to CNN. |
RIP
I'm sorry to hear about your losses, j..

and asked them to check on him. He forced his way into the hotel room and found him dead. Also left behind a 12 year old daughter, 11 year old son. Terribly sad but I'd be lying if I didn't say, after losing my father in law and my mother in the past 3 months, that it makes a part of me kind of mad. To put your family through that...I dunno, he must've been in a pretty dark place.

Thanks buddy, appreciate it. I really don't want to sound judgmental, like I said he must've been horrible, dark place. But what we've been through you still really fresh in my mind and I suppose it will be for quite some time. It's a tough row to hoe then we all must experience at some point. I just can't imagine willingly putting your children through that, especially at such a young age. The only thing I can think of that could've made the past few months any harder would be A) if I were 11 years old and B) left to spend the rest of my life wondering why dad chose to leave. Just a shitty situation.
As for Cornell's talent, he truly was one of the best of this generation. Temple of the Dog, Badmotorfinger, and Superunknown were among the very first albums I ever bought back when I was a 12 year old discovering music. The "grunge era" and all it brought became a little cliched with copycat bands and $200 high fashion flannels but damn it was exciting when it happened. RIP to a giant...

RIP to CC, way too young for a very talented guy, but if we're going on baseless speculation, I wonder if autoerotic asphyxiation isn't closer to it. His final tweets didn't seem to paint the picture of a depressed guy about to end it all.

I hope the suicide rumors are just that. Just tragic
I am shocked and sad at yet another loss of talent in the past 18 months .. and way to young.
RIP
When I read about this and others (Robin Williams, Curt Cobain, etc.) - people who seemingly have it all (money, fame) ... I think - is it something else that makes people commit suicide or is it a level of pain I was never familiar with?
Caught his appearances on the Howard Stern show a couple of times. He seemed like a good guy (one of those "easy to root for /glad for his success types".) Just sad that he may have killed himself (from early reports.....

He was playing with Soundgarden, not TotD. And they played that song on other stops on the current tour.

He was playing with Soundgarden last night. I just looked at their set list, didn't see that on there.

Yeah, looks like they added that snippet whenever they closed with Slaves & Bulldozers
To be fair, in Robin Williams' case he had been diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, which sounds like a horrific thing to go through.
RIP Chris and my condolences to his family, ex-bandmates, and fans.

The crowd at SPAC was so incensed by Soundgarden and Pearl Jam that we rushed security between the grass and the amphitheater. Eventually, they were overwhelmed and it was a free-for-all. The most unbelievable concert scene I've ever been a part of.
I ended up getting to the front row of the stage and hearing Soundgarden for the first time. It was unreal.
It was the day I became a Ministry and Al Jorgensen Fan too.
And Pearl Jam was just unbelievable. That's when the onslaught started within the crowd.
To top it off with RHCP was just unreal. Probably my favorite concert of all time. Who could have imagined that we'd be seeing 10 or so legends of music that day?

Ha B I was at that show... though to be fair I don't recall too much... :)
First and last time Lollapalooza ever graced SPAC.
Two years later at the harness track was a shitshow.
I know sometimes the first response is to think he's selfish for not reaching out and trying to get help rather than leaving a wife, children, and countless close friends behind - but sometimes people just have demons that encapsulate them to the point where they can't see beyond the darkness and it feels like the only way out.
I lost a best friend this way when I was in my mid-20's. Part of me was just so angry (on top of indescribable sadness) at first because if he had just asked me for any help at all I would have done everything humanly possible for him. As would have anyone else who was close to him.
But sometimes the pain is just impossible to escape.
Incredibly sad.
The "Black Hole Sun" video weirded me out in the best, most memorable way possible when I was a kid. I had Superunknown on cassette. I really loved Soundgarden back then. Brings back a lot of memories.
RIP.

Not being in the right frame of mind sounds right. There were some insinuations above that this was an impulse selfish act, but this was a 52 year old man,a guy who pretty candidly and thoughtfully spoke about his past demons and being in a much better place as he aged. Its possible he relapsed on top of this, but impulsively committing or planning out a suicide doesn't seem likely.

Now you can jam out with Layne and Kurt.

Absolutely loved AIC. These guys are gifts to be enjoyed and huge losses when gone.
