NFT: Question about Verizon Fios

Samiam : 5/19/2017 2:01 pm
This may be a real stupid question considering I've had Fios for a good number of years. Probably going to have to call them but don't want to spend the hour waiting if I can get info here. The router I have has to be about 5 years old, maybe more. First question is should routers be upgraded every few years ? Not crazy about performance. Second question, I'm pretty sure I never bought the router but there's nothing on the bill that speaks to renting the router. Shouldn't there be a charge for that if it's not owned? Last, Verizon is selling one for $150. If I buy one, and there is a buried fee, there should be a reduction in my monthly bill? Is that right?
If there's an equipment rental fee on your bill

and then you buy your own equipment, set it up, and return theirs, then that fee should be removed.

gave away routers in the beginning without charging a lease fee. When you upgrade they will either charge you up front or add a lease fee to your bill.

I recently upgrade my router to take advantage of the faster FIOS speeds and the Quantum TV capabilities. I never paid a penny for my original FIOS router and had to buy the new router.

End of story, there wasn't any savings on the bill since we did not rent the original router. I believe you do need to return the original router since it was not purchased when you receive the new one.

just upgraded my internet to 900mbps download and 880mbps upload

Did you upgrade to the $150 router?

Yes, I believe that was the price. Less network problems as it can handle the 100Mbs and higher speeds better. I also added a Network Extender for better coverage.

The Quantum TV features enable ability to watch DVR and Live TV on other devices in the home and the upgrade is required for that with new boxes. The older boxes were not functioning very well anyhow.

A few weeks ago I upgraded my current FiOS Verizon. Upgraded router speed and actually was able to negotiate my monthly bill down $30/month. They also sent me the router for free - no rental. I agreed to 2 year contract, so I guess that was the catch or win for them. I love FiOS...never have issues. Now if they could only get NFL Package ......
Upgraded my FiOS today from 50/50

to Gigabit 940/880 on ethernet. Blazing fast speeds. Seeing about 200/150 over the WIFI connection.
for those that upgraded to 1Gbps

did Verizon do that annoying thing and disable the previous service prior to the speed update or was it just a seemless software change? Any service interruption, maybe my area but I have experience this twice during upgrades for speed.
