for leaking his failed PED test in 2003.

Cue the Boston hypocrites.

Yeah but he's such a nice guy!

who spent his offseasons working out with ARods cousin in the Dominican, but actually expects people to believe he was clean.

I expect he'll spend the next 5 years campaigning for the HOF.
One of the pleasurable things about the current season
HomerJones45 : 5/20/2017 1:08 pm : link
is not having to listen to the constant slobbering over this fraud.
And he'll probably make it into the HOF with far less scrutiny

from the media than Piazza. I fully expect the media to start making excuses for Ortiz in this respect, or just ignore it all together.
David Ortiz

didn't even play baseball, he just hit. He isn't a hall of famer, he barely played defense

I'm betting on "ignore"

Papi is such a weird figure -- he was demonstrably a huge a-hole (to a semi-casual NL fan) but was oddly singled out to be praised as a "good guy" - clutch hitter for sure, great DH, but man is he treated way better than deserved, IMO.

You're right -- he'll get less scrutiny than Piazza got -- and I think he'll sail into the HOF.
Don't bring up PEDs & Ortiz to Sox fans.

Assume anything you want kept secret, won't be. Your confidential positive drug test will be leaked, especially if it's positive. Your boss will hear about it when you reach out to your competition about a job. Your wife will find out that you cheated. What happens in Vegas comes home with you.

So if you really, really don't want the consequences, don't do it.

(I think we all know that and do shit anyway.)

Bingo. And the comment about him for the HoF vs. Piazza is a good one. Piazza never failed a test and outside of some bacne observed in the locker room, there was nothing on him. Ortiz actually failed a test. And Ortiz, barely played D. Some will counter that Piazza wasn't good defensively, and I will disagree. He did not have a good arm. That is not debatable. However, every other aspect of catching he was good at. He worked a staff ( he had a very good career ERA for his pitchers), he blocked balls in the dirt, he blocked the plate. And, he was flat out the best hitting C of all time. Ortiz is not the best DH of all time. Not even close.

So true. Plus, there is actual proof of his failed drug test, and he acknowledged it, even if he denies doing anything wrong. There are ZERO failed drug tests for A-Rod, Bonds, Clemens, and Piazza. All are worlds better than him as all time greats. And yet, I guarantee in 5 years he's in the HoF with almost no opposition.

Plus, why in the Hell does the media slobber over him? He has proven to be an asshole time and again.

It's really weird. The difference between NY and Boston fans is most NY fans have no problem admitting when some of our best players are jerks or scumbags...LT, ARod, Clemens, etc. We cheered for them when they helped our teams win, but can admit they're not exactly all-star human beings.

Boston fans have built a little fantasyland in which they think their favorite players aren't just stars on the field, but men of unassailable character off the field. Ortiz was one of the great hitters of all time - and he's also a lying fraud. Brady is probably the best QB of all time - and yet he still destroyed his cellphone to hide evidence during the deflategate inquiry.

Shoot, many of them only recently figured out something the rest of us knew all along - Curt Schilling is a piece of fucking garbage.

You do realize Ortiz failed the same test as Arod right?

I hate Ortiz as much as all non Red Sox fans and I agree he's a fraud and will probably have his PED past ignored and get in the HOF, but when you argue in this manner you lose credibility.

The three names leaked from the "anonymous" 2003 test were Arod, Manny and Ortiz.

So this is bullshit, at least the Arod part:

Yes, I know. I originally was typing something else about their HoF treatment and did a bad job when I cut it.

read the spin of the pitch at such an advanced age as Papi did last season . I think after Boston Strong , and the undeniable rallying influence he had on the city after the bombing , Papi received a permanent amnesty from having to take any drug tests. Or they spiked the results . MLB just couldn't take him down. Boston needed a hero. .

George wanted him way back when he was still a Twin. Do you realize how different the 2 histories of the clubs involved might have been ? And, then , what would Yankee Fan be saying about him today ? He was a great hitter. A seminal force in Red Sox history; the antidote to the Bambino. He's going to the HOF, fellas. Get used to it .
Is there another hof'er
bubba0825 : 5/21/2017 10:08 am : link
Who basically only played half the game? Edgar Martinez was a great hitter who will never sniff the hof because he was a DH. Add to that he failed a drug test why does he get a pass?
In this post PED era, any other player that had his stats suddenly

at age 40 would be getting ROASTED in the media. But not this guy. Even with his failed test. Even with his sudden uptick of performance coincidentally around the same time as his failed drug test. Even with his very public roid rages. Even with his non-stop bitching and excuses. Even with his unsavory acquaintances.

The double standard that Ortiz gets treated with is really quite amazing. It's hard to understand. Ortiz getting into the HOF would be a spit in the face to a lot or more deserving players that have been cast aside.

For all I know he had me set up and had my friend Manny Ramirez banned from baseball.

Considering most Yankee fans don't exactly go easy on A-Rod, I think Ortiz would be receiving only moderately better treatment from Yankee fans. He is still a disingenuous asshole who failed a drug test no matter which way you cut it.

It's an absolute joke if he gets in before A-Rod who was worlds better than him, Bonds who is possibly the best ever, or Clemens, among others.
He doesn't want the scrutiny...
