NFT: I don't like cilantro.

Klaatu : 5/20/2017 2:51 pm
Don't like it at all. Tastes funny to me. Sorry, cilantro lovers (and growers), you can keep it. I won't eat it.

You are insane

cilantro is great in soups to each his own

What have you tried cilantro in that put you off so much?
David in LA : 5/20/2017 4:01 pm : link
It's a staple in authentic mexican food and pho. You can barely tell that it's even in the dish.
Cilantro
Mike B from JC : 5/20/2017 4:10 pm : link
Does have its own unique taste but, I make a fresh salsa with it and it's delicious. When combined with other flavors, it's great.

For a percentage of the population cilantro tastes like soap. I'd notice the taste of soap in my food, even just a little.
I agree David
Mike B from JC : 5/20/2017 4:12 pm : link
Did you eat some raw klaatu, lol!! Not meant to be the main focus of a dish.
I had no idea Stockton, just googled it out of curiosity
David in LA : 5/20/2017 4:15 pm : link
Klaatu is one of 4-14% of the population that can taste the soapy aftertaste.

Mike B from JC : 5/20/2017 8:02 pm : link
To each their own klattu. I have foods I despise to, one of which is zucchini!!
Try a different cilantro then
Tom in Kzoo : 5/20/2017 8:05 pm : link
Forget use in Mexican food
Indian food shops have
A cilantro ( coriander) chutney that is fAbulous- on fish, chicken or mixed with yogurt as an awesome dip for roasted potatoes
Best friggin stuff on earth
It's genetic
PaulBlakeTSU : 5/20/2017 8:45 pm : link
I've had a lifelong battle with cilantro. It tastes like soap to me and is so strong that it overpowers whatever it's in for me unless it's in a very faint quantity or really old.

It's a shame because I love Mexican food and pho and banh mi sandwiches.

Julia Child hated it too. IIRC, it's tried to coriander which gets its name from the Greek word for bed bug
I wish I liked it
PaulBlakeTSU : 5/20/2017 8:48 pm : link
Because I can tell by the some that our probably adds great flavor to those who like it.

coriander and cilantro are synonymous
gtt350 : 5/20/2017 9:49 pm : link
.
the only difference is sometimes people use the ground up seed
gtt350 : 5/20/2017 9:52 pm : link
instead of the leaf
Yeah coriander is the seed
adamg : 5/20/2017 10:13 pm : link
Cilantro is the leaf.

And it sucks that this is a thing. My dad and sister are both infected with this shit, so I don't grow it in da herb garden.

I really enjoy it as a sweeter alternative to parsley when it's fresh. But, no more...
And strangely, ground coriander
adamg : 5/20/2017 10:14 pm : link
has no effect.

Okay - never again with the shortened version of your name ....sorry.

I was with you on asparagus until a few years ago when I had it grilled. Grilled Asparagus is much better than the boiled kind. Try it.

I used to agree
BigBluesman : 5/21/2017 10:08 am : link
and hated it. Tastes like soap, all of that. But I think through eating enough tacos I trained myself to like it. Now we're cool.

TurdFurguson : 5/22/2017 1:41 am : link
My mother and two brothers love it. Confirmed genetics. Also, same thing why people love/hate durian. I think it tastes delicious and don't mind the smell. I'm told it smells like cat piss to those who can't stand it.

So I'll take yours.

When there was a Baja Fresh near where I work (sadly, it closed) one of my favorite lunches was their pinto bean and cheese burrito. They have the bar where you can add as much cilantro and salsa as you wanted to it. The loaded-up burrito and the nacho chips that come with it made for a very tasty and very affordable lunch. I wouldn't even have to have dinner those nights. Mmmm, I miss Baja Fresh - I don't live near one.
