I tend to overthink prior to the draft and end up justifying the picks after the draft....but which drafted players that ended up on other teams do you feel will not meet expectation and will exceed expectations?
The one that I feel will not do well is Garrett Bolles. The pundits complain that the Giants did not draft an OL earlier in the draft. Many had them getting Bolles. Many had him targeted as a true LT but I for one am glad Denver picked him. He played at around 290 which seems very light for the NFL and at the age of 25 is not exactly still growing. The age also implies that he might have reached his potential and will not have the improvement seen in younger guys.
Samaje Perine falls on the other side of the spectrum! As he ended up with the Redskins, I hope I am wrong. RBs are tough to Gage in college as many have highways to run through which do not exsist in the NFL but this guy just looks like an NFL RB and I had hoped we drafted him. No offense to Gallnan who looks quick and runs hard...he will cause people to miss. Perine just seems to me to be that inside punisher that we needed.
Going back I am and was intrigued by Odi. Thjs guy has not been able to put it together and had a weird fuckup on social media. If he can put it together this year that could pay dividends for us. We already know our DL has arguably the best starting 3 to 4 in football but behind them is where it starts to get concerning. Vernon and JPP can not play the amount of plays they played last year and be expectes to stay healthy late in the year. So, some of these younger DEs we have have to step up. Odi is still one of those guys that doesn't even seem to be in the conversation and rightfully so but if he does turn it around then this D goes to another level.
Webb is very raw so it is hard to say how much coaching will impact him for the better. He has a long road ahead of him and my gut tells me he is inactive all season UNLESS (God forbid) injuries hit. Some pundits had Webb in the 2nd round due to his arm strength so maybe we did OK getting him where we did.
And for those who say we should have waited until next year to grab a QB when more good ones are available I say "why not take a QB in round 1 next year..." if he is the best player available? Think about it: Manning is older; Webb is developing; and a #1 pick could be our #2 or #3 QB for the season with the hopes that either Webb or the #1 are the future of the franchise. You aren't going far without an above average QB.
Much depends on Taco's success for Dallas to be competitive imo
RB is one of our deeper positions. I see Perkins starting, Vereen on 3rd downs, and Dwarka playing in between as well since he'll be active on gamedays due to his special teams ability. I'm not sure about Gallman's ST ability? Anyone know?
I just assumed more of a hammer.
Disagree on Howard, agree on OL.
Under Deliver -- Taco Charlton. Just don't see it w this guy. He's gonna be w a very good d coordinator though so I guess we'll see.
Over Deliver -- Rasul Douglas. To me he looks like an Asante Samuel type player. Hopefully I'm wrong.
Sorry to be a homer but Evan Engram is going to fit into this system very well.
-The new WCO that is quick passing
-OLine that can't be counted on to protect for 5 and 7 step drops by Eli
-Eli has been throwing a lot to the TEs and quick slants to OBJ already.
-3 WRs who can command respect.
The middle will be wide open for Evan Engram.
As I said, I might be a homer but if he can catch like the staff thinks he can, I have to believe he will produce at a very high level rather quickly.
Underachiever - Njoku might be the obvious here because he seems to need time to develop, so I'll go with Barnett on the Eagles. I'll be eating my words for each sack he gets on us, but it goes back to the "Force" players article posted awhile back. He doesn't fit in that category and history shows he has less of a chance at being an impact player especially someone worthy of the #13 pick.
