The Giants starting left guard, in his fifth season with the team after being drafted in the first round in 2013, is bullish not only on his immediate future but that of the team. The Giants picked up the fifth-year option on his original rookie contract, which will pay him $8.8 million this season. Pugh, after this season, is seeking further career security with the Giants, with whom he wants to finish his career, and more money. He can say whatever he wants, including "I'm in the drivers seat". It doesn't mean shit when talks start. Giants are going to make an offer, and he decides to accept it or leave.
Who cares what he thinks of himself.
Now guard is almost a glamour position behind QB, WR, and OT and the pay is very serious money.
On the other hand, RB used to be just behind QB as the glamour player to draft in the first round. It was even worth giving up your whole draft in exchange for one RB. Now it's "you can pick up RB in the later rounds. They tend to have short careers and get hurt a lot."
