He was most effective over the span of three seasons (2013 through 2015), where he was primarily used as a pass-catching back, playing over 70 percent of his snaps in the passing game.

Law of diminishing returns

The more you use him the less effective he is.
Hes a 3rd down RB.

This shouldnt surprise.
Vereen is indeed a 3rd down running back

I do, however, see him getting at least 80 to 100 carries this year as they mix him in a bit.

Perkins will surely get 250 carries, I'd think.

I also see Vereen being open a lot this year as our skill position players can really stretch the field this year and that should leave more dump offs wide open. I keep harping on a high percentage passing game and moving the chains to wear teams down and keep our defense fresh. Much like what New England did to ATL in the SB and well what they did for much of the year.

no shot 80-100 carries...hes only carried the ball 80 times once in his career. the second and third highest totals are 62 and 61.....i dont see it. but he was carrying the ball alot more then usual last year averaging 6+ carries a game with a 4.8 ypc when he was healthy. i also have some concerns with his ability to hold on to the football in a crowd of defenders.....

i would not mind seeing him carry the ball a lot more but with Perkins' expanded role, the addition of Gallman (plus McAdoo's willingness to play rookies), and Darkwa all there i dont see Vereen being a major contributor on the ground.

you may be right but i dont see that happening
Vereen will not hold up with too many rush carries. Best to give him

the rock in 2-minute drills, and when Eli wants to check down to a run play. He fumbles to easy with bodies coming at him from too many directions at the LOS.

Best served to be the 3rd down back with short dump off passes, screens and the occasional run plays.

he's very good

in a very specific role

Perkins gets 15 touches, give the rookie a few carries between the tackles ... lob it up to Marshall inside the 5. Rinse, repeat.

I agree on the high percentage passing game however I don't think that plays to Eli's strength anymore , he can't consistently do 12 and 14 play drives without running the ball because really the short passing game you have to be dead on accurate and he is not
and he is subject to interceptions and fumbles To me the Giants want to play long ball and run to eat up clock with the personnel they have now is the perfect time to do it .....

One has to ask themselves how many Super Bowls were won with a west coast offense ....... I would say maybe 6 SF /5 Packers 2 Tampa bay 1 and that's only because they had Gruden it wasn't a true WCO.......

He was injured most of 2016 and was barely featured period in 2011.

Their own numbers for 2012 are within what should be considered the range of error for their 2013-2015 numbers.
You can argue that the best use of Vereen is only about 8 touches/game
Big Blue Blogger : 5/21/2017 1:01 pm : link
I think, that the number matters much less than the productivity. Because of his role, Vereen needs to move the chains a on very high percentage of his carries and targets. Otherwise, drives die.

Some weeks, he will get 15 touches. Other weeks, he will only get five. Either extreme can be a "good" game, as long as those touches are productive.
To put it another way, the production drives the touches...

...not the other way around.
