shut down from his throwing program. It's going on June and he can't be closer than two months away at best with his throwing shoulder impingement. At what point does he call it quits? I have strong doubts that he will ever be able to play third base again with his arm issues, I suppose he could platoon at first base with Duda/Flores, but at this point what is the point? Does he try to make it back for a late season run and call it quits, or does he push on beyond this year?
I love DW, but he hasn't been an impact player in 4 years.
Unless they negotiate some buyout he will keep at it.
It is but it is a payback situation, The Mets pay it out and recover I think 85% if he doesn't play for the year. So the Mets are on the hook every year for the 20 Mil.
If he plays a certain amount poorly they are on the hook
When Wright and Reyes came up around the same time, I was thinking they would be the cornerstone for the Mets for the next 15 years. Quick rise and a hard and long fall for the Mets during their time. It's really a shame that the Mets couldn't build around those two but we all know the history.
Thanks for the memories DW. You were a shining star on this team. You deserved better.
Call Sandy and offer to pay the balance of his contract and it's done.
He might agree but he is not walking away from 3 years 60 mil and I don't know the Mets have the resources to buy him out unless we have a repeat of Bobby Bonilla
Walked into citifield and its already 5-0 Angels
Then we get Montero and Ramirez lol

The Mets insured the contract, and have a settlement of something like $48M coming to them if he doesn't play again. That settlement goes away if there's a buy out.
There's basically zero incentive for either side to agree to a buyout.
Potententislly yes. But between his chronic back and neck issues, it seems doubtful he'd hold up long.
But even if he could, how does he get to the AL? No team will take on his contract. And the Mets aren't going to release him and eat the whole thing. So it's a moot point.
Talk about a slow death.
Fielder will be on the DL until 2020 I believe, Wright's contract also runs through 2020.

Probably. And ultimately that's better for the Mets than if he actually makes it back as a mediocre player. If that happened they'd lose out on the insurance coverage.
