Keep killing it, Gleyber. Just today I was thinking of how cool it would be for him to come up and bat in the bottom third of the order, so that at least one of Gary, Judge or Gleyber bats in every inning. It would make these games even more fun.
Tyler Wade has played a ton of positions this year and none of Solano, Culver or Tejada is keeping Torres off SS.
I am talking about when he gets to the majors. He will not be a shortstop this year so will he continue to play short or will they try to get him some games at 3B too?
Castro's been excellent and Didi is Didi. Gleyber could "Wally Pipp" any of them, however, should there be an injury.
Yup I fell a little bad for Headley, he is what he is as a player, but he seems to be a hard worker and nice enough guy. Who's time remaining as a starter with the Yankees may now be down to weeks left instead of months
There's a nice trend in the Yanks system where prospects who perform get their chances and get promoted. Back when we had an expensive vet at most positions, prospects were really just auditioning to be the next trade chip.
He's played 5 games each at 2B and 3B. While I assume they would put Torres at 2B, I doubt they put Castro in a position he's never played before (third base) during the season.
His days are numbered. Spot DH/PH duty for him soon. I thought Holliday could at least be serviceable at 1st allowing for more flexibility with the lineup - and I still think that way. The gaff at that clown park in Tampa yesterday was more about the "stadium" than the player.
This team is thriving with exceptional young talent and no first baseman.
Ford is an undrafted 24 y-o late bloomer who played 4 years in the Ivy League so he is way under the radar. This year between Trenton and SWB his combined OPS is .936, with 4 HR in 8 games since being promoted to SWB. And, he's a natural first baseman.
Btw, in the game where Torres was punished for not hustling...
he didn't run out a soft shot he assumed would be foul. The Yankees concede that he mainly lost track of the ball and normally always hustles, but felt it was necessary to punish him in order to avoid the perception of favoritism.

You're right that he shouldn't be ignored. His problem is the 40-man roster - he's not on it, and spots are tight with all the players the Yanks are trying to protect. And there are already 3 first basemen on the 40-man - Bird, Austin and Carter. So they can't really bring Ford up for a look-see mid-season. Gleyber's not on the 40-man either but he's obviously going to be on it sooner than later.
Off Headley at 3rd to start. He's only been playing SS and 3rd in AA.
Yeah, Headley's pretty much a dead man walking at this point. Assuming Bird comes back and hits even a little bit there's simply no room for him on the roster once Gleybar gets the call.
Headley had a great start but he's been pretty bad since then. Yanks will probably try to move him by eating a bunch of salary. Ironically both the Red Sox and Orioles are in need of third baseman (O's presumably would move Machado to SS if they got a decent third baseman since Hardy is awful now).
I don't think they'll bring him up until September unless he has a

What actually might help him out, were Bird to suffer a setback or some similar calamity, is that he is most likely disposable when people are healthy.

Carter is tits. How did this guy hit 41 incognito HRs last year ? Did they let him hit the ball out of his hand ?

They thought enough of Bird for him to start the season as their 3 hitter. He's still the future.

Why not? The Cubs moved him from SS to 2B in mid season, despite never having played there. It isn't like this would be unprecedented.

I guess they could, but the Cubs made that decision while Castro was in the middle of an absolutely horrendous season. (He was batting 236/271/304 at the time of his first career start at 2nd base.) I wonder if the Yankees might be more hesitant to do that while Castro is playing wonderfully? It's all hypothetical anyway unless Gleyber tears up AAA.
I love that the Yanks have been moving their minor league infielders around making sure they are versatile and able to play multiple positions. The Yanks are so loaded with quality young infielders that a guy like Thairo Estrada flies under the radar. Estrada is 2nd in the Eastern League with a .346 average. He's just 21 years old and could also be knocking on the door to AAA before too long. Mateo probably moves up to AA, but Estrada is the better player right now.

Estrada is a guy who has interested me for several years now- sneaky power, plays 2B, SS and 3B- and generally seems to be a solid defender. He is the type of guy I would like the Yanks to put at 2B and just see what happens.
but what do you do with Castro? What do you do with Wade? What do you do with Torres? What do you do with Andujar? What do you do with Torreyes? All he does is produce when called upon. What do you do with Didi? There are only so many spots. Didi is playing great and should stay put. Castro is near the top of the league in hitting and is locked up for the next few seasons at a very reasonable contract. Call me crazy, but Castro could be a very nice trade chip right now. Torres can take over 3B and Headley can become a switchhitting 3B/1B/bench guy. That jettisons Carter and leaves no room for a Tyler Austin or Mike Ford or Andujar or another young 1B/3B type. Lots of tough decisions to be made.

He might be up by the All Star break. Is Torreyes in trouble?

Yes Headley can play 1st base. I believe he did last year in a few games.
Don't forget Fowler. 300 ba with 9d, 7t, and 7hrs. And he is just 22.
Doesn't sound like a problem at all.

Hicks has been taking grounders at 1st.
This is about 3B IMO.

His value is probably as high as it's going to be. I doubt he keeps hitting at this level all season.
I agree. But, I would not trade Didi.
