No show is news and not good news at all, he sucked in the playoff game and if he gave a shit would be working his ass off to improve, although the only thing he seems to practice are his one handed catches. he is all about himself and not a good team player at all, if he were a Cowboy everyone of you would be all over that. But since he is a Giant its the media picking on poor Beckham. He is a great talent, no doubt, but he has won nothing so far.

Jesus Christ, we haven't even crossed the bridge yet that he's not in attendance. Yeah, I'm sure all he works on are one handed catches. Awful post. F.
It might be too crazy of an idea for some of you
David in LA : 5/22/2017 4:07 pm : link
but here's a thought. Maybe OBJ isn't mentioned here, because he's a proven commodity, and our best playmaker by a mike, that they don't want to put his health at risk with some injury going into the season. I know, it's fucking crazy.
Doesn't look like OBJ was there......
Simms11 : 5/22/2017 4:11 pm : link
I'm sure we would have seen him in one of the pics or even a mention. Unusual for him to not be there being that he was always very committed in the off-season programs.

Rotoworld reports Aaron Donald is skipping OTAs and it's supposedly contract-related. He's won even less than Odell.

Calm down.
OBJ should be there.
Klaatu : 5/22/2017 5:45 pm : link
I didn't like it when Shockey and Plax used to blow off the voluntary workouts, and I don't like OBJ blowing them off, either. It's not the end of the world, but it still annoys me.
So some of you want to bubble wrap OBJ now?

I've been an OBJ apologist from day 1.. but there's a marked difference in the way Marshall handles himself and tries to be a team player and the way Odell can be.

Marshall was not always like this - which is what gives me some hope. But I do hope that that same bulb eventually clicks for Odell.

This isn't crazy, it's nonsense. Players don't get told to not show up for OTAs -- there are often even contract bonuses for attendance. If there's some concern with their health, they adjust what is asked of them in their physical participation.

If Beckham isn't there, it's almost certainly by his choice -- and while it's not required attendence and not some irreparably damaging sin, to not show up for them (after already skipping working out with the QBs/WRs/TEs earlier this offseason), IF that's what he did, is going to raise some eyebrows and not do so entirely unfairly. There are bigger hills to die on than what you're trying to here.
Devon, no doubt I'd be disappointed if he wasn't there
David in LA : 5/22/2017 6:42 pm : link
I don't think anyone knows. My point is that people freaked out over minicamp, and it turned out he was there working out. We can freak out once we have confirmation that he's not there, and he's holding out or whatever.

of the offensive line situation? I am wondering what the depth chart looked like. Was Fluker at RG or RT with the starters. Where were Wheeler, Dunker, and Bisnowaty lined up and were they second or third stringers?

Beckham may have made a cameo here and there during the first two phases of workouts, but he wasn't a regular presence. We'll see if things change for OTAs.

So barely showed up for minicamp, didn't work out with the QB & receivers, doesn't appear to be around today for OTA's. Is it the end of the world? No. But not what I want to hear, especially coming off that horrific playoff performance.

O-Line
HitSquad : 5/22/2017 7:49 pm : link
I deduce from looking at the OTA pics posted on Giants.com that the starting O-Line was

LT - Flowers
LG - Pugh
C - Richburg
RG - Jerry
RT - Hart

And the right side on the second unit was

C - Jones
RG - Fluker
RT - Bisnowaty

In rookie minicamp Wheeler worked at LT while Bisnowaty worked at RT so I assume Wheeler was the LT with the second unit. I'm curious to see where Dunker lines up. Eric has his listed on the depth chart at RT but I would love to see him at guard.
I am very excited to see the second stringers in the preseason

How many weights do you have to lift, and how many catches in shorts in May would make up the difference for the team not winning since 2014?

Because it sounds like you're trying to connect the losing to him, when in reality he's been the only reason player on the team saving them from a few 4-12 seasons. You have no grounds to say he's a bad teammate, unless you'd like to cite some teammates you've spoken to. But if you haven't, please don't project "I don't like him" into "He isn't a good teammate and isn't a winner". Just be honest.
No, but I do remember your remark about Ronnie

I know exactly what I said, I told him how about sharing some more self deprecating Korean humor, which he did regularly for many years during his first several years here. Such as a fat Korean kid riding a bike away from an explosion, or making jokes about replacing l's with r's.
Fact. Was it a shot in the heat of our conversation? Yes. However, you took it as a shot at him being Korean, therefor I'm a racist. In actuality, it was more a shot at the content he was posting. But that's above your head, like everything else.

Either way, this is stupid, I don't need to justify myself to a simp like you. I've been around here a long time and people know what I'm about, although not posting a lot recently due to the influx of morons like you running the asylum.

For all of his personal warts, Michael Irvin was always the hardest working guy on the team in practice. So was Jerry Rice. They outworked everybody, and that's why they're in the hall of fame.

Plaxico and his attitude, stupidity, immaturity cost us a shot at SB #2 in 2008. Plaxico demanded double coverage which made life easier for everyone else. Losing him was about as bad as losing OBJ would be us. The Giants didn't have time to adapt the offense and Philly chewed us up in the playoffs. Also, Antonio Pierce was clearly not himself after the incident. It just rocked the whole team, lockerroom. Just a bad day out.

All of what you're saying is true, but there are two points to make of this to add context to why I disagree.

1) We didn't know any of that was going on at the time. By many accounts, he was considered to be very hard-working. The team did a fantastic job of burying the news of what kind of guy he was, to the point that he was a fan favorite.

2) Beckham hasn't done anything remotely in that realm. He's never even been fined or made to sit out a few plays because he missed a practice. Everyone who speaks of him speaks highly of him, from the coach to the owner.

Is it possible that Beckham is secretly a terrible person? I guess, but I find that people are very quick to fill in the blanks and create a story that matches the impression they have in their heads.

Some people insist JPP is a malcontent and a bad guy, and the Giants have been falling over themselves to get him signed long term for years and stood by him when he had one hand and didn't appear to have a future in the sport.

If these guys were as villainous, selfish, or somehow detrimental as they are sometimes categorized as, I'm not exactly sure the team would put themselves in their corners when they have much more information on the day to day personalities than we do.
Villainous?
Britt in VA : 5/22/2017 10:13 pm : link
Secretly a terrible person? No, that's an overexageration of what's going on here. I care about what he does in regards to the Giants, only. His personal life is irrelevant to me.

In regards to Plaxico? No, that played out very publicly in 2008, including right here on BBI. He was suspended completely for at least two games, and benched for portions of others. That was not hidden.
Beckham is a tremendous talent..
Sean : 5/22/2017 10:24 pm : link
but there is no doubt people here defend him a bit too much. He needs to grow up. Saying this doesn't mean I'm anti Beckham, it's just fact.

We found out in '08 that he had been a problem essentially his entire time as a Giant. Before that, it wasn't a topic. It was only after the Glazer story in September that he'd been fined over 50 times and regularly had issues with coughlin that the truth about him came out. That whole year was a total meltdown. Then the shooting happened in december to cap it all off.
