How with Geno Smith do in this Offense.

River : 5/22/2017 4:23 pm
Its very Qb friendly system and he will have structure and guidance, something he has not had before. Also he is very mobile like Rodgers and has a strong arm. Can he read a defense and chose the right plays. Will he have the ability with this line to extend plays? I am really interested to see how his skills can be used in this offense. I know with the Jets he was prone to Interceptions. Will he still be a gunslinger type or will he buy into it and grow?
Hopefully,

1, ta-whoooo, 3

I am not saying I want him to start.

I believe in Eli and He is the franchise around here.

I just want to see what a mobile Quarterback can do in this system with these weapons. that is what exhibition games are for to see the back ups in action.
How Will Geno Smith do in this Offense?

Damn typo.
Hopefully we will never get to find out,
Section331 : 5/22/2017 4:33 pm : link
but McAdoo's offense requires a good bit of accuracy, something Geno has shown little of in his NFL career.
Well he probably won't get punched in
GuzzaBlue : 5/22/2017 4:53 pm : link
the face, first off.

I never thought highly of Geno. Always thought the mental part was never there for him to succeed at a high level. Mac's offense seems to favor QB's that can make quick reads. Also, the night of the draft told you everything you needed to know about his mental makeup. He was so bad with the Jets however, it would be tough for him not to do better.

he won't make the team

...back up QB will be Webb, book it
I think with the Importance of this year
River : 5/22/2017 5:03 pm : link
the Giants and Mac are carrying 3 Quarterbacks.
Smith /Johnson will make the team as a guy you can win games with this season as a backup Number 2. Webb will be 3.
Smith Will be Better
Samiam : 5/22/2017 5:14 pm : link
I think he'll be better than most think. His big problem for now is not falling behind because of the injury. But, Reese knew what the recovery timetable was and signed him anyway. And, he wouldn't have signed him if he wasn't a serious candidate to make the team. The Giants are a QB friendly team and he has some really good people to throw to. He always had a good arm but had piss pour coaching and piss pour receivers with the Jets. Granted he was immature but his sake, one would hope he's grown in the last few years. He has a good arm and can make all the throws. I think he makes the team unless Webb really steps up but I don't see this team giving Webb enough of a chance to be Eli's backup. Webb will play Nassib's role and Smith will be Carr and hopefully we never see either when the season starts.

You make it sound so matter of fact. Would you put your life savings on it? IMO McAdoo will keep 3, and use this year as a redshirt season for Webb.
I'm hoping excellent. For two reasons. (1) In case Eli
Blue21 : 5/22/2017 5:27 pm : link
does get hurt (2) Possible future QB when Eli retires or skills diminish.

Strong arm is being pretty generous.
It'll be interesting to see him in the 3rd Pre-Season game

against his former team.
i think
BlackburnBalledOut : 5/22/2017 6:00 pm : link
geno may be a bit better then we've seen. he never had any weapons playing for the jetplanes and he did flash some ability his rookie year and before he got KO'ed by the no name LB (ik enekempali?). I dont think he's that good i just think maybe hes better then we have seen

that being said he might do ok, i just hope we never have to worry about that.
I think Geno would be better than people think
Sonic Youth : 5/22/2017 6:08 pm : link
He does have a penchant for horrible turnovers, but let's not forget that he NEVER played with any good skill position players. IIRC, he didn't play with Marshall *or* Decker at really any point. I'm not even sure if Ivory was there when he was playing. The Jets had atrocious skill players while he was actually behind center.

He won't set the world on fire, but I think he can win a few games if he had to. Definitely more than Webb can coming off the bench (I'd guess Johnson as well, though Johnson has never even been a starter to begin with - I do vaguely remember Josh Johnson "hype" coming out of the draft, but that was probably 7 years ago at this point).
Can people please come up with a different QB as a point of comparison
Devon : 5/22/2017 6:19 pm : link
then Rodgers?

There really are plenty of them, some mobile, some that have even played in WCOs.
Low Expectations.
ZogZerg : 5/22/2017 7:07 pm : link
Still don't understand this signing. Coming off an ACL, on a 1 year deal.

Plus, I think the jets did have coaches that tried to coach him up.

I'm willing to bet
djm : 5/22/2017 7:21 pm : link
That smith doesn't even make the team. He's gotten way too much attention around giants nation in my view. I know he's a qb and former jet but people need to slow down on this guy. He's unlikely to make a mark here.
Smith is actually a really good passer
Go Terps : 5/22/2017 7:38 pm : link
Physically he really knows how to throw the ball...he's way ahead of Webb in this regard.

Unfortunately to this point his problems have all been between his ears.

I think Geno Smith is a LOCK for #2 QB and 3rd round pick Webb is our #3 and inactive barring injuries.

Geno flashed at times as a Jet but I'm not so sure he had the best coaching or the right system that suited his skill set. Is he a #1 QB? Not likely. But I think he'd do a better job running this offense than Johnson and is certainly way ahead of Webb who is too raw.

NFL experience, real game experience, is a plus and he has enough of it. Much depends upon how much he can absorb and how quickly he fires the ball to the right player & especially to the right jersey. I think he could be efficient and his legs add a dimension to the offense. I wouldn't write him off.
3 QBs. If Smith really outplays Johnson, Smith stays.
Ivan15 : 5/22/2017 9:23 pm : link
If it is close, Reese tries to trade Smith for a late round draft pick to a team in need of a backup QB or replace an injured starter.

The only tough decision will be if Johnson and Smith are about equal, too close to call.

Well, it's a low-risk move at a time they needed a veteran backup.

It was never going to be more than one year, because that makes no sense for the player, who is trying to resurrect his value and angle for a starting job somewhere eventually

What's not to get?

Smart move for both sides: Giants get a veteran backup QB; Geno Smith gets to learn the WC offense; and, Geno isn't expensive either.

If Johnson and Smith are close in camp, it will be a tough decision indeed. Not sure how that would play out.
NYG aren't going into the season with Webb as #2.
Section331 : 5/23/2017 9:29 am : link
MAYBE later in the season they feel comfortable enough with him to make him #2, but not right away. The question will be if Geno can beat out Josh Johnson. I think he will, but it's not a slam dunk.
How would Geno do in this QB-friendly offense?
Jimmy Googs : 5/23/2017 10:00 am : link
Well go take a look at how our Left Tackle and Right Tackle played last season and then let me know...

a) what makes it QB friendly?
b) the over/under on how many sack Geno would take - 50?
