Right up to this point I've been willing to excuse everything...But this is not good..

Most of the Giants assembled on Monday for the first Organized Team Activity (OTA) of the offseason, but there was one notable exception. Star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was not in attendance, according to a person familiar with the situation.
The 10 OTA sessions that will take place over the next three weeks are voluntary. But it's no secret that coaches would prefer to have the entire team in attendance as the installation of the offensive and defensive playbook begins.
It's unclear why Beckham missed Monday's session or if he plans to attend future OTAs. The next OTA is scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday's OTA is the first session open to the media.
It's not known exactly how many of the voluntary workouts Beckham attended during the five weeks of the offseason program that preceded OTAs, but he was not a regular participant, according to a person familiar with the situation. He also missed informal workouts organized by quarterback Eli Manning at Duke University in early April because he reportedly had oral surgery.
Jesus...Its OTA's...
Deep breath kids...
based on his hair - more pre-Madonna.
Cue the hysteria, though...
When a man has had all the attention he had for the boat incident and missing passes that might have won a superbowl game, when the team is excited and the sky looks like the limit....I would expect the star of the team to be there for the voluntary's.
When he is not, it's not about jumping off a ledge, but he should be there as a team leader or even bench warmer.
There's is a group here that loves to mock. loves hyperbole and loves attacking under the shield of anonymity. It's really about them (it's always about THEM) and their sad little lives, and a chance to be somebody by"put downs", and too, what Throreau said so many years ago "most men life lives of quiet desperation.'

Plenty of us find it to be rather meaningless. There's nothing wrong with having your take on this, but there's no 'right' answer here. Some fans want their best player to be some kind of role model. Others don't care about stuff like that.
The disconnect comes in that one thinks their opinion is shared by the coach, or other players, etc thus making this a huge deal in their minds. The reality is that it very likely isn't, and that nobody whatsoever was affected in any way by him not being there, and everybody was too busy working to care.
In May.
When they're voluntary.

Stop it.
Wouldn't you want someone criticizing you for missing a voluntary day of work?
Cut it out and enjoy the damn sport sheesh. Now if he misses training camp that's another story.
But OTA's? Really? We aren't even talking about practice.😂
A. Teams are already penalised by the labour contract So I think it is improtant that he's there.
B. If it's labor contracts leverage ...fine, but there's no indication of that. I
It just sounds like a man who has more important things to do and/or assumes he's so good that he doesn't have to be there. I don't see how it can be taken any other way and I think either way has negative consequences.
Is it major...I don't know, I think for the important sake of camaraderie he should be there, I think to master new formations he should be there and then there's the playoff failures and linkage to the boat day....
The boat thing was a fabricated issue. In other words, it's not the specific day on the water, it's the pressure it generated -rightfully or wrongfully.
Isn't this the same thing and doesn't it speak to a lesson not learned.?
Did the Met Pitcher get ruined by early New York fame?
Maybe it's just me...I see something special happening and I like this bunch and don't want anything lousing it up.
As a matter of respect for his coaches and teammates though, I do hope he notified the team of his intentions beforehand.

He doesn't have market value until he becomes a free agent. Just like if you are in the military: you don't have market value until your hitch is up
I've been expecting this all along. Despite all the hiccups, OBJ has earned a contract extension. It's just a question of what is fair. In my mind, it's a four year extension worth $68M to be tacked onto the $10.3M he is due in salary in 2017 and 2018, for a six year total of $78.3M. For simplicity's sake let's call it a 6-year $80M deal. That's the relatively easy part of the negotiation. The hard part is figuring out the guaranteed money and that's where all those "hiccups" I referred to come into play.
It would be great if both sides can be reasonable and this can be settled soon. It's also possible it can drag on into training camp and further into the season. OBJ has a lot of leverage because the $1.8M he is due in 2017 is a paltry amount compared to the guaranteed money that would come in an $80M deal. If you were OBJ's agent, would you allow him to risk a catastrophic injury over $1.8M when there is roughly $40M in guaranteed money (plus or minus $10M) at stake?
Or I could be completely wrong about all of this and it's just a case of OBJ being a dick. But I doubt it.

Given the importance, I couldn't agree more
Maybe some of you should apply the same expectations to yourself as you do with star athletes you never met.

What a terrible analogy to compare everyday working stiffs to star athletes. OBJ is getting 1.8 MM this year. If any ordinary working American was offered 1.8 MM for a year, they would do anything their employer asked voluntary or involuntary.

to give lip service about maturing instead of actually doing it, disappointing.
Maturity has nothing to do with it. He's probably just following his agent's advice.
Yeah just keep making excuses for him, he'll probably give you more opportunities.
I actually look at it as an opportunity for some younger guys that don't know the offense to get some reps playing basically less than flag football practice.
Sure it's voluntary and no one is suggesting we trade him or any of the other hyperbole that the nihilists NEED to engage in.
I worry that the man is developing an ego that will hurt him. He didn't attend the practices at Duke. Now he missed the voluntaries.
Question: Would the team be better of if he'd made those practices.
Ans: Maybe.
Conclusion: That's enough reason to be there.
It's easy to come to the conclusion that you're so special that you don't need to practice. It easy to think it's forever and not recognice how fleeting, ephemereal and fragile a career can be.
I'd like to see the man doing everything he can to perfect his craft , to be as good as he can be. That's not what I'm seeing.
And, again, to take that llegit. concern and distort it into something I never said or never felt ...is, and I'm sorry, just being a superficial asshole. I mean an asshole should be enough...but a superficial asshole is really stretching it. P.I.
Lmao yeah ok

Oh look, he's going to be there today! Good news, you can stop huffing and puffing about it

Any ordinary American has 40-50 years to carve out a career, and many are not as skilled in their own specialties as NFL stars are in theirs. Most of the "any ordinary American" set are fungible; players on Beckham's level are not.
I think if you apply those factors back to the NFL players (and their salaries - and bonuses, since I know you get hung up on the distinction), the analogy actually holds up pretty well.
He is showing up tomorrow. Again, no link.
