he's the 007 that I first think of when I think 007!!!
Me too. I don't care how campy, I was a big fan. I grew up on The Spy Who Loved ME, and Moonraker, even though the latter doesn't get looked upon favorably, it worked just fine for an eight year old.
Always fun to watch, no matter the role, and underrated as an actor. He didn't get many chances to be serious as Bond, but when he did, he always excelled at them. (I think of when he kicks the car off the cliff in For Your Eyes Only, or his reaction when his late wife is mentioned in The Spy Who Loved Me). Also one of the only Bond actors who never grumbled about how the role was a straitjacket, etc., and could let the celebrity-dom roll off his back. From all accounts, a modest, charitable guy in real life too. RIP.
Live and Let Die was the first Bond movie I ever saw
When terrorists take over two oil rigs and threaten to explode them if their demands are not met, an eccentric anti-terrorism expert volunteers his unique commando unit to stop them.

But his movies were more campy than Connery's, imo, so less enjoyable for me.
Hated "Jaws" and some of the corny plots.
Everybody has their favorite Bond and Sean Connery was probably the best. But I could make arguments for most and always thought Pierce Brosnan was the closest to Connery (if Connery was the standard) in British class and ruthlessness.
Moore was a little too "classy/polished"; Dalton too hard edged.
Craig I think pushes Brosnan for second best interpretation of the character.
BLASPHEMY...Sean Connery will always be James Bond!

Tough year, first Jaws, now Sir Roger Moore.
The speed boat chase is a classic.
RIP Mr. Bond.
R.I.P. Sir Roger, thanks for the great memories.

Same here, and people forget this was back in the very early days of the VCR, going out to rent older movies wasn't a regular thing in the early 80s.
I grew up watching the Roger Moore Bond films too, didn't see the Sean Connery movies until a few years later.
I agree that Connery is the best Bond, but I'm one of many who identify Roger Moore with Bond first
That is awesome, thanks for posting
ffolkes.
ffolkes: I have *never* taken ten minutes.

I liked Dalton a lot and had no problem had he remained Bond, but I did prefer Brosnan because I felt he took it back toward Connery's style.
I must warn you, I'm Roger Moore.
Who?

I liked the "hard-edged" Dalton a lot more than Brosnan, although License to Kill was not a good movie, a terrible follow-up to The Living Daylights.

I always thought that Dalton was a closer approximation of Connery than Brosnan, but, hell, that's what makes horse races, I suppose.
