"Among the allowed moves are group celebrations, the use of the football as a prop (as opposed to a simple spike), falling to the ground, and when applicable, making snow angels.
Things that are still banned include twerking (apparently), and gestures that can be deemed offensive (understandable)."
Players and younger fans enjoy it. Let them.
Celebrating on the field of play? A different issue.
I remember it like it was yesterday. It never delayed the game for 10 minutes. More like 10 seconds. You know why that celebration eventually got banned? Because Dallas couldn't handle getting their ass kicked in by the Skins and when the Skins scored yet again and went to the fun bunch thing, Dallas jumped into the middle and tried to break it up. I remember that too.
Let them yuck it up. Does not distract from the game one bit.
Cmon man. The rules were ridiculous before.
Makes perfect sense.
Makes perfect sense.
Except the players don't see it that way.
1) We will now be subjected to incredibly inane, intricate, moronic, long, etc. celebrations prompting the longing for the return to the No Fun League
2) Flags will result for especially excessive celebrations, making this rule change a head scratcher
Enjoy.
Quote:
What should be allowable after a touchdown:
1) Hand the ball to the referee (classic Mark Bavaro move) or
2) Do a simple spike (Homer Jones inspired)
Anything else should be a 15 yard penalty. 2nd violation during the game should be an ejection.
That's ridiculous -- you have no problems with the spike but condem other celebrations as if they are any different. Just what we need more penalties.
They were celebrating like crazy in the 70s, 80s and 90s and things were just fine. If anything the penalties did more harm than the actual celebrations that were flagged. And it slowed the games down. Plus the flags demonized harmless bullshit dancing.
How can you compare the spike with multiplayer celebrations?
And of course, if TV refused to show it, the way they do with fans running onto the field, the players would have no interest in it.
1. No props of any kind
2. Once a TD is scored, the play clock will run immediately each time (except when the play is under review) prior to the extra point. This means the players really cannot stand there and have some long dawn out celebration unless they want to risk moving the kick back even farther.
3. Taunting during the celebration will result in a 15 yard penalty during the extra point, not the kickoff.

I could see having the refs spot the ball without delay and starting the play clock at that point. But it's obviously impractical and unfair to start it immediately after the score regardless of how long it takes for everyone to get down to the line of scrimmage to have the ball spotted.

Which cuts into commercial time, so ixnay on that.
Huh? There aren't commercials between a touchdown and the pat.
You'd never know it from reading the game threads.
