Ten most athletic current Giants based on position targets

gogiants : 5/23/2017 9:25 pm
There exist target numbers for combine events per position group. Based on combine and pro-day results here are the top ten "most athletic" Giants as determined by the number of events for which they met or exceeded their position target numbers. The only combine event not counted in the eight was the 60 yard shuttle. Here are the top ten in no particular order:

QB Davis Webb
FB Shane Smith
WR Odell Beckham
WR Sterling Shepard
WR Kevin Snead
DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa
DT Josh Banks
LB B.J. Goodson
CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
FS Ryan Murphy

All 10 listed participated in all eight events with the following two exceptions.

1) Davis Webb - only participated in 7 of the 8 events and made all 7. QBs do not participate in the bench press.

2) Kevin Snead - there was only data on Kevin for the forty, broad jump and vertical jump. However he exceeded all three of these events. His forty was 4.22 seconds. US Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association of America named him college football’s fastest man in 2016.

With the exception of Snead, the other top ten all happened to be the only Giants on the roster that met targets for 7 of the 8 events.

Here are the average targets met per each position group on the current Giants roster.

Pos Avg
FB 7.0
QB 5.7
CB 5.3
WR 5.0
TE 4.5
S 4.2
DE 4.0
RB 3.9
LB 3.3
DT 2.7
OL 2.2

Interesting to note that three of our positions of concern OL, RB and LB are three of the lowest four group averages. The QB average does not include Eli as he did not participate in the combine and I could not find data on him. For the final 53 man roster the TE group may be most athletic group on the roster (eg: Engram, Adams, Ellison) not counting the FB position which would probably only have 1 member. The Giants whole roster averages to meeting or exceeding targets for 4 out of 8 events.

Of the ten "most athletic" Giants above, the only one I am not sold on is Odiggy. Hopefully he shows something in preseason. I think that all the others should make either the 53 man roster or the practice squad.
