TMZ reported Beckham spent time this week running passing drills with his pal Johnny Manziel, the infamous NFL flameout who’s said to be working on a comeback. The session, recorded on the Instagram feed of sneaker artist Kickasso, included a number of receivers in addition to Beckham, and the website reported Manziel, who last took a pro snap in 2015 before a disturbing downward spiral washed out his 2016, flashed some of his old skills. Manziel has been reported to be working with California-based quarterback tutor George Whitfield. |
It's like picasso and kick ass combined. Awesome.
He just signed a fat shoe contract. Fan perception of professional direction is usually not what's best for a player. By being who he is he just secured his entire financial future.
maybe he doesn't courtesy flush or he specializes in "upper deckers"..

Micheal Vick signed a big deal with Nike too right before his career was destroyed by bad choices in his everyday life.

Michael Vick ran a long term criminal enterprise that managed to check the boxes of animal cruelty AND illegal gambling.
OBJ partied on a boat, lost his temper one time, and skipped a couple days of OTAs.
Totally comparable.
Me,ZZ Top,and Johnny B Shitfaced are gonna play a little catch.

There fixed it.
Because BBI
you realize the dbs partied that night to? landon collins said thank god that didnt get out because it was a lot worse...
it was their fricken off day and had no effect on the game on sunday...
every single player says he is the hardest working guy on the team, god forbid he has a little fum every once in awhile...
by the way go look up how many players have been missing their teams otas...
I don't remember Eli missing volunteer workouts and partying the week before the game, hanging out with celebrities, and acting like a moron before the game on national TV.

you realize the entire tram partied the night before the superbowl in 2011?
going out eithout a shirt on is acting like a moron? how about all the offensive lineman who warm up with no sleeves on because they want to show they are tough?
hoe about the giants team wearing black for super bowl 42?
Alcoholism is not a disqualification for a professional athletic career. The various HOF's have a few high-functioning and reformed alcoholics. Manziel is 24 years old, he's got time to get his life back together.
I'll bet you just love complete useless failures on a message board giving you advice on who you should and shouldn't be hanging out with in your off time, huh?
So, nicky43 didn't show up for the voluntary company bowling outing, let's go to her house and burn it down! She's prolly hanging out with that recovering alcoholic Barb, from the cafeteria instead! That bitch!
They share a trainer. Landry works with him too.
I wouldn't want the optics of being connected directly with trash like Manziel if I were him, especially at the expense of OTAs, but then again, I wouldn't want my tattoo artist posting pictures to the gram of me getting an ass tattoo either. His image choices are what they are.
This has to be like the 5th time you've tried this joke now.
It's not good and it's not catching on. You should probably let it go.

Got it. Nothing to see here, just like everything else this offseason. All good.

From Art Stapleton:
Liggin has also trained Lynch, Bush, Landry, Manziel, etc.
Well if you play Fantasy football you better pick up Marshall.
The hyperbole over him "taking passes" from JM over EM is almost comical. When you are at a camp of your own choosing with other athletes working out together, well someone has to throw the football.
While JM is a human trainwreck, at one point the kid was pretty damn good at lobbing the spheroid object around.
This isn't OBJ choosing JM over EM, its him doing his own workout with his own crew and JM happening to be there lobbing the pigskin, and ODB is STILL coming up to NJ for "voluntary" workouts.
BTW anyone want to tell me how long each workout is allowed to go for.. welp that would be 6 hours a day, and its 7 on 7 and 11 on 11s allowed, with all the new guys on board how many "snaps" do you think ODB missed over day one and two... so he missed a total of 12 hours voluntary limited snaps in NJ to workout with other pro receivers running routes as long as he wanted and is heading there for the 3rd allowed session.
Yes I agree optics are not great, and Im not defending him, I think he does need to think about how things look sometimes, but this isn't like he is snorting blow off a tranny hookers ass with JM at a brothel in vegas while he isnt in NJ, the kid was "still" working out, and is still going to go join the team...
Also if he stumbles it give the media the ammunition it needs to go after him. Distractions are generally not good for teams trying to win it all.

Yeah? Me too!

I don't know about this... the GREAT ONES (of which OBJ seems likely to be counted among based on what he's done so far) seem to last very long. From Terrell Owens... to Chad Johnson... to Randy Moss... to Cris Carter... to Rice... even Irvin had a long, productive career that would've lasted a few seasons longer had he not gotten hurt in Philly.
I can't think of a whole lot.
In fact, most guys.. Owens comes to mind.. had pretty damn good careers.

He really needs to get his head out of his ass. How could he not see how bad the optics would be on catching passes with Johnny Football instead of from his own QB?

really. for a supposely bright guy, he does dumb things.

- A professional trains pro football players in the offseason - for a fee, no doubt.
- OBJ has trained with him before, as have several other prominent players
- Johnny Manziel, in an attempt to resurrect his career, chooses to train with this trainer - assumedly for the same fee
- so by your rational, OBJ should have decided to immediately stop training with said trainer, despite likely paying him a fee for his services, to avoid the bad optics of catching some balls from Manziel?
Do you see why some people think your reaction is absurd?

Exactly! OBJ... and 95% of all other NFL players... could care less what anyone on this site thinks about him or what he does during the off-season (and probably in-season too for that matter). You'll still buy a ticket or watch him on tv... and the moment he gets a first down or scores a TD, you'll love him... again.
Neither one paid for the wall!
BUT... If you're going to say that you did not groan at the news that OBJ was not at OTAs so he could train with someone else, your lying. Especially having anything to do with JM.
Little things like this add up when contract time rolls around. Will the Giants want to sacrifice for a guy who does not toe the line? He is an all time weapon... I love him on the cheap.. Not so much at 20/year
I can not score without the Football said Beckham.
just throw the ball to me I will do the rest.
Meanwhile Marshall Odell's teammate leads the league in Receptions.

Read up on the trainer they're working with.
I know I'm not allowed to criticize him anymore, but is it ok if I roll my eyes next time he or one of his sycophants mentions his burning desire to be a great Giant? Is that much ok?
I get he can do whatever he wants since it is only voluntary but that's just my 2 cents
Seriously though, i would rather him be at OTAs than hang out with a suspect crowd...even if it is "football".

I didn't understand the comment yesterday, and I don't understand it now.
How is he putting his roster spot in jeopardy? He's got as much of a stranglehold on his roster spot as Eli does.
He's literally in less than zero danger of losing it.
Is it the end of the world? Of course not. But I do think it tells us a bit about where his head is.
I can't think of a whole lot.

C'mon.. Freddie Mitchell and Odell Beckham aren't even in the same universe in terms of talent.
Few players on this team have played more games as a Giant, and he is the senior Giant in the wide receiver room. This off-season is a great opportunity for him to start leading by example.
But he wants to get a tattoo and work with a quarterback that will never play on this team. And he doesn't mind putting that kind of thing on Instagram.
If I'm his teammate that would rub me the wrong way, but I'm not on the team so what do I know.
It's voluntary..get that..but he is hurting his image ...if that matters...and eventually will lead to..imho..things of trouble nature..js
But hey, it's millenials ways, so be it

Sorry. Just your basic sarcasm...
;-)
I don't know why the tattoo matters. He did it in his free time. He didn't ditch OTA's so he could get tattooed. These guys aren't at sleep-away camp. When practice is over, they're free to go on with their lives and do other things. He got a tattoo. Big deal.
We also need to clarify that Manziel is training with the same trainer that Beckham is. Beckham didn't partner up with Manziel to train with him specifically. Some of you guys are making it sound like Odell ditched OTA's to go to some busted up Manziel QB camp at the Neverland Ranch or something. C'mon.

I honestly can't even tell who is serious and who isn't when it comes to this stuff anymore.. that's how far in the red the hysteria meter is regarding this player lately.

Again, sorry. I don't disagree that things are typically blown out of proportion on BBI...
and B) Eli and Beckham live in different worlds. Eli Manning doesn't have two giant corporations fighting over who gets to pay him $25 million dollars just to use his face to sell shoes and t-shirts. Comparing the two just doesn't work on a lot of levels.

Who was missing from it last year?
Yeah it's voluntary, so I guess no harm no foul.
But if Beckham can blow it off to do his own thing, why shouldn't anyone else? If zero Giants showed up to OTAs, would that be the mark of a healthy team to you? Would that merit concern here on BBI?
I doubt it.
Would I prefer that he was there so that this wasn't even a story? Sure. Do I think it's going to impact anything at all on September 10th in Dallas? Nope.
So there's really no reason for me to lose sleep over it.
When training camp opens up, Beckham is going to be there with everyone else.

c) based on his play in Green Bay, it couldn't hurt Mr. OBJ to show up either
d) Eli lives in the world where taking nothing for granted could get you two SuperBowl MVP awards

A) is meaningless because even if he had the best year of his life, Eli would still be holding offseason workouts for whoever wants to show up on his dime and being present for all the OTAs, he'd still have his own workouts with the various trainers and coaches he's used over the years scheduled for times when they wouldn't conflict.
People shouldn't be comparing the two largely because one is the starting franchise QB and the other is a WR. There's significantly more weight on the QB's shoulders, in terms of being "there" and what is perceived as leadership, than there ever will be a WR, no matter how great he is or famous he is. If a QB doesn't show up to OTAs and it's not an emergent situation, then that's not a QB any team should be investing in -- the same can't be said for any other position on the team.

Jimmy, the majority would take the 25 million. That's a sure thing for your family.
I think all will be well - the refrain that OBJ is the last player we need to worry about on game day is well earned.
Of course, this is not the kind of news Giants fans want to hear. If he played for Dal, Was, Phi, or the NYJ there would be many more on here ripping him for this behavior.
What about the Falcons? Should they never sleep and just workout 24/7?
What about the Falcons? Should they never sleep and just workout 24/7?
If you don't get it, you probably never will. I'll try to summarize for you the viewpoint that it matters.
1. Those with concerns connect the performance in the game to the off-field activity surrounding the game, including the pre-game stuff.
2. There is a group who harbored questions about him who held out hope that the GB game might inspire a change.
I'm guessing you dismiss these points and that's okay.
Is it a huge deal? Of course not. But, is it annoying that he isn't there? Of course. A Giant fan can say this without being blasted for being anti-Beckham.
We don't know.
If it was done earlier do you really think it wouldn't have made the news? It was on the financial channels today for goodness sakes. Highest deal ever for an NFL player.

My point is that "inspiring change" in this thread means doing everything the way a fan thinks a player should. Not only was he working with a paid professional but hes been working out all off season and got off social media a month ago which he was mocked on BBI for and wasn't taken seriously.
Many people cherry pick what to be pissed at, it's tiresome.

Do you know for sure Odell is the one posting this stuff on instagram??because it was reported a couple months ago that he stopped posting on social networks to focus on training. Which obviously wasn't a big story because it won't generate a lot of clicks.
It's seems more like people are finding other ways to generate negative stories about him. Even though he is also at fault because he's not making it very hard for them to come up with stuff to talk about.
I don't know that it was or wasn't.
My point was that they're are two different people with different life experiences and different outlooks. Beckham couldnt 'be like Eli'. Nor could anyone else. It takes a very different type of person to take as much abuse as Eli has in this city since 04 and remain unchanged by it.
Players miss OTAs every year. DRC and JPP didn't appear in last year's OTAs until later in the week, and nobody remembers this now, because in reality it's utterly meaningless.
And look, on a personal level I don't care that he's an asshole, but every single criticism I've made about him is with the same crucial question in mind: is this the kind of guy the Giants should expend around 10% of their cap resources upon for several years?
