I just watched his game
against Miami last year, and he looks as disruptive as Malik McDowell looked at times.
I didn't realize how athletic he was: 6'5'' 316 and he just knocks the interior Miami OLmen around like their nothing. He makes Senior Bowl attendee and fifth round pick Danny Isidora look feeble at times and makes a ton of tackles in the backfield.
Looking at his
NFL Draft Profile, the wrap for why he wasn't drafted seems to be work ethic and questions about how much he loves the game. If those question marks turn out to be misguided, I could see this guy being a huge steal in UDFA.
I also read that he was the first UDFA we targeted. I don't know if that's true, but he was
signed nearly immediately after the draft. And, looking at that game, I could see why. He seems like he can be a true 3 tech or a guy who comes in on third and longs and rushes the passer from the inside.
Anyone think he may unseat Bromley and Thomas and steal that 3rd DT spot?
Jones has the physical ability to be a player. NFL.com scores him as a "true boom or bust player" and in Spags scheme, with the DLs we have, he may just boom.
If you want a sleeper pick at DT, Josh Banks at the 3-technique is your man. Wasn't invited to the Combine, but he had a good Pro Day.

Somebody wanted him to be used inside on passing downs. This is crazy talk. Look at that 40 time. It is a fatal flaw for that kind of specialized use.

His 40 time is irrelevant. His speed off the snap and ability to disengage is more important as an interior pass rusher than 40 time. He isn't running 40 yards to sack the QB.
That said, the lower rungs of the Giants' DT depth are wide open this year. Bromley is running out of lives; Thomas appears to be JaG; And for all the enthusiasm about Tomlinson, he's a rookie too.

The measurables might support the knock on Jones as lazy, because there seems to be a broad consensus that he has NFL talent.
