Get one final shot at 3B. Part of me wants TJ Rivera to get some consistent atbats there and heat up like we know he can. Part of me thinks Reyes is better than Cabrera at SS. Part of me wants to see Rosario at SS. What to do what to do.... 5 candidates for 2 spots.
All these early injuries to the positional players have been a boon

Cabrera should be the odd man out, and it couldn't be more obvious and easy of a decision. Which means that when he returns from injury he will go right back to starting.
Reyes is better at SS than Cabrera and looks like he might be getting back on track with the hitting. But Reyes is still going to be worse offensively than TJ and Wilmer. It hurts to have Reyes and Cabrera in the lineup at the same time. Duda too. Too many dead spots.
Rivera and Wilmer are exactly what this team needs and it's no coincidence that the offense has been clicking with both getting consistent playing time. It's nice not having to rely on the HR for wins.

Agree 100%. What's worse is Cabrera really looks like a liability at SS this year too. But you are right... I can almost promise Cabrera is getting his starting spot over everyone when he comes back in a day or two. lol.
Is there a team who is any worse at pitchers bunting than the Mets?

Agreed Cabrera is going to start and he shouldn't.
Well, you can't hurt the fragile egos of your ancient veterans
Wilmer at 2nd? It won't be the best defensive IF but not really any worse than what we have now (which isn't awful anyway). At least that IF would hit.

Yeah... Probably. It's still lame. If he was just on the normal ballot, casual fans look up his stats and he's probably one of the top 3-5 vote getters overall and in the running for a starter.
Or do you think that he overachieved last year and this is what he is? After all he never tore up the minors and he wasn't even a top 10 prospect in '15
Or do you think that he overachieved last year and this is what he is? After all he never tore up the minors and he wasn't even a top 10 prospect in '15
I think he overachieved last year and has underachieved this year. Add it up and I think he'll be a good 5th starter, maybe even more in time.
He's iiight if everything is clicking but he's pretty much the quintessential middle relief vet type that's easily replaceable. I'd rather go with younger upside options.
brought in with the bases loaded? Why was Salas in last night in a blowout? Are we saving Sewald for extras? Maybe Gsellmen should've had a shot to go 7 with a really reasonable pitch count?
Why is a guy with a fucking 10 ERA even on the roster? I understand sending Robles down but not if that means this jackass is going to come in to pitch instead. He absolutely sucks. I never want to see him on the mound again.
if they jumped up and bit him in the ass. Second game in a row he has taken Gsellman out too early. And how on god's great earth do you put Ramerez in that spot? Guy is a lifetime loosing manager and he shows us why all the time.
Criticism of TC thus far is the over-emphasis on pulling the starters early, either with being overly concerned with low pitch counts or not allowing them to work through a little adversity, especially in the 6th and 7th. One guy gets on and he's going to the bullpen. He's just over-managing and over-cautious with these starters.
Has good raw stuff but he can not locate consistently
He had a couple of real nice spurts over the first few weeks. He seems like he's a bit of a headcase though. I still like his potential but he's been bad overall.

TJ. Much better chance of putting the bat on the ball and putting something in play and then you still had Plawecki to come in and catch if it's only tied. FUCK.
You swing on a 1-0 pitch in on your hands with the bases loaded and 1 out. A lot of bad things can happen if you hit the ball. By not swinging you can only be 1-1 or 2-0. And he would've been 2-0, but he swung. You can't win the game until you tie the game. And it was right there. I realize hand isn't automatically going to walk a guy, but the pressure that would've been on him on a 2-0 pitch in that situation to throw a strike would've been huge.
Sometimes I just shake my head. Let them throw you a strike, he totally missed an opportunity to get a free RBI that would've tied the game.
RE: After Granderson struck out I would have pinch hit

He already used TJ.
But, yeah, the Mets need to have a contact hitter up in that situation.

TJ pinched hit for Smoker earlier in the 8th. Bruce was available?

I'm not going to kill Riveria. He is a journeyman who has survived in baseball until his 30s because of his defense.
He is not the guy you want up in that situation.

TJ had already pinch hit. Do you mean TdA? I think Terry wouldn't have wanted to put a guy in just coming off a long flight in that situation, but TdA seems to make more contact than Rivera, and has better plate discipline.
Obviously, the way to get Rivera out is just by not throwing strikes.

I get that but it's pretty basic stuff. That whole AB changes if he's up 2-0. I would've been going up there in that situation saying that I'm going to take 1 strike.
has to trust his starters to try and win these games. He HAS to let them go longer.
Cespedes can't get back fast enough, but he has to realize he can't rely on the bullpen to get 9-12 outs every game. He has to let these pitchers at least work into the 7th and stay with them if they let the lead-off guy on. They will work out of those situations plenty, and they are a better option than what he's bringing out of the pen.
Awesome that we are carrying three fucking catchers.
We need a closer but it's way too early in the season for teams to start dealing. About half of this pen needs to go and we need to get some freaking bodies back off the DL pronto. Enough is enough. The baseball Gods have to start favoring us eventually.
tonight I think Im still most upset that Salas loaded the bases after collecting two outs and Collins went to Neil Ramirez with the bases loaded with Blevins, Sewald. Reed, and Edgin all available. Geezus...

I agree. You don't give up the lead with Salas and Ramirez. That's also why you don't needlessly pitch Blevins and Sewald with a big lead the day before. That's when they should have used Neil Ramirez and let Salas throw 2.
At some point TC needs to STOP making decisions based on
"wanted to let the player exit on a good note" and manage a fucking baseball game. Holy shit, Terry has no idea what the hell he is doing. He is expecting these pitchers to fail.
Fuck it...let Nelson Figueroa manage the team. He gets it. This guy is spot on with all of his commentary about this team.
But it is just one game. I think the Mets can get back on track.
However, you really have to be concerned with Collins' mismanagement of the pen going forward. This pen is already shaky enough as it is. Can't have the manger throwing gas on the fire.

the "players manager". He keeps a good clubhouse and players generally like him. That's very important over a long season. When you build him a fool proof roster his mistakes arent magnified all that much and he's no different than any other manager for the most part. The problem is when he doesn't have talent (see Angels teams) or his team is strained for talent due to injuries. His in game management gets magnified and let's face it... that's his weakness.
He's the opposite of Valentine. Valentine was an excellent strategist and got the most from mediocre talent but he couldn't manage a clubhouse of stars when he was handed all the talent in the world.
He pitched Sewald with a five run lead last night and he put in Blevins with a six-run lead.
So, if they are unavailable, it is his own stupidity. But since the Mets had an off day on Monday, I doubt they were unavailable. It is quite likely some BS he is making up.

Both have pros and cons.
Eh, not sure I agree with this. He's labeled a "players manager" because he lets the inmates run the asylum. Doesn't hold veterans accountable and the veterans are the ones that run his clubhouse. It's real easy to be a players manager when you don't hold their asses to the fire. And this is also one of his biggest weaknesses. He is an awful awful manager that the GM had to be talked into keeping by their franchise player. But, to be fair, I've gone full heel on Terry so my viewpoint might be the extreme. However, every post game presser he says something more stupid than the day before.
As for Valentine, you may or may not be right...but let's not base it on his time in Boston. I'm not entirely sure he was 100% in it during that time and he was thrust into a losing situation with a clubhouse full of douchbags and bullies.
The media likes Terry and treats him with kid gloves
I think that is the main reason he has stayed so long.
You always hear "players love him." I believe that about the veterans since he always gives them every chance. No doubt in my mind that Reyes, Grandy etc like him. But what about guys like Flores? Not so sure Wilmer loves Terry.
I'm willing to bet that young players don't love Terry. Especially
when they are producing and they get benched or jerked around. Especially when Terry likes to regurgitate his whole "you hit, you play" mantra every year when they are just hollow words. Especially when he continues to downplay their achievements and almost mock them. Ugh, he's an idiot.
That are almost directly attributable to TC (by my count this is 4th this year) where is sethfromastoria to tell us how great of a manager TC is and how we are all a bunch of jerks.
That guy is the worst
The worst thing you can do to a bad in game manager
a Bad in game manager? I mean, what's the point then? And I don't want to hear that there are a lot of managers that are bad in game managers. Terry is the worst of them all.
RE: But then that begs the question, why even hire or retain

I'm not a Collins fan at all. But Alderson's shitty roster management doesn't help
I remember the good old days. I sure do miss the beginning of a relationship where everything is perfect and the girl just wants to have sex all the time.

That's a fair point. Sandy isn't exempt from all of this?
We all beat on TC for his handling of the starters and bullpen, and I agree completely. But, I wonder where is our great pitching coach in all this? Shouldn't he be keeping TC from these obvious mismanagements of the pitchers?
He is now a full time player who can hit against the righties and lefties!

5th inning called and Gsellman wanted to stop pitching
as soon as Matz and Lugo return, we will see gsellman and Montero go down
deGrom
Matz
Wheeler
Harvey
Gsellman
Lugo replaces Montero as the long man in the pen.
That would upgrade things significantly IMO.
In a close game, the least clutch Met I can remember
good to see because Mets are going to need him and Seward to carry more of the load than you would normally expect
I think he overachieved last year and has underachieved this year. Add it up and I think he'll be a good 5th starter, maybe even more in time.
Neil Ramirez omg
Reed
Sewald
Blevins
Robles
Smoker
Edgin
Lugo
If Robles and Smoker give up home runs so be it. I'd rather go down with those guys than a bunch of older vets.
Dumb move pitching Salas and Ramirez
Dumb move pitching Salas and Ramirez
Yup. Gsellman was at like 80 pitches.
And Montero with Edgin on their heals. Bring up somebody like McGowen.
So, he is problematic enough when he has a good pen but when he has a bad pen--like he does now--he is an utter disaster.
Cant we remove Goeddel first?
He had a couple of real nice spurts over the first few weeks. He seems like he's a bit of a headcase though. I still like his potential but he's been bad overall.

Come on Reyes!
We most certainly can
Still, like this! Bases juiced!
I'm totally with you.
They ain't catching AZ, LA, StL, Chicago for a wild card spot. With or without Cespedes.
Hang in there fellas. Hopefully some wins are on the horizon soon.
This team is a fucking joke.
I'm with you, Z.. I need to take some time off from watching this garbage. It's really not worth the aggravation right now.

I'm not a Collins fan at all. But Alderson's shitty roster management doesn't help

Knew we weren't scoring.
This team is a fucking joke.
I'm with you, Z.. I need to take some time off from watching this garbage. It's really not worth the aggravation right now.
I have a girl flying in from DC for a long Memorial Day weekend. You guys might seriously not see me for a little bit. hehe.
That's nice, say hello to your mother for me. LOL sorry I couldn't resist.
Trade off the tradable expiring assets and prepare for 2018 with a new manager and the "kids".

a Bad in game manager? I mean, what's the point then? And I don't want to hear that there are a lot of managers that are bad in game managers. Terry is the worst of them all.

That's a fair point. Sandy isn't exempt from all of this?
