TJ. Much better chance of putting the bat on the ball and putting something in play and then you still had Plawecki to come in and catch if it's only tied. FUCK.
You swing on a 1-0 pitch in on your hands with the bases loaded and 1 out. A lot of bad things can happen if you hit the ball. By not swinging you can only be 1-1 or 2-0. And he would've been 2-0, but he swung. You can't win the game until you tie the game. And it was right there. I realize hand isn't automatically going to walk a guy, but the pressure that would've been on him on a 2-0 pitch in that situation to throw a strike would've been huge.
Sometimes I just shake my head. Let them throw you a strike, he totally missed an opportunity to get a free RBI that would've tied the game.
RE: After Granderson struck out I would have pinch hit

He already used TJ.
But, yeah, the Mets need to have a contact hitter up in that situation.

TJ pinched hit for Smoker earlier in the 8th. Bruce was available?

I'm not going to kill Riveria. He is a journeyman who has survived in baseball until his 30s because of his defense.
He is not the guy you want up in that situation.

TJ had already pinch hit. Do you mean TdA? I think Terry wouldn't have wanted to put a guy in just coming off a long flight in that situation, but TdA seems to make more contact than Rivera, and has better plate discipline.
Obviously, the way to get Rivera out is just by not throwing strikes.

I get that but it's pretty basic stuff. That whole AB changes if he's up 2-0. I would've been going up there in that situation saying that I'm going to take 1 strike.
has to trust his starters to try and win these games. He HAS to let them go longer.
Cespedes can't get back fast enough, but he has to realize he can't rely on the bullpen to get 9-12 outs every game. He has to let these pitchers at least work into the 7th and stay with them if they let the lead-off guy on. They will work out of those situations plenty, and they are a better option than what he's bringing out of the pen.
Awesome that we are carrying three fucking catchers.
We need a closer but it's way too early in the season for teams to start dealing. About half of this pen needs to go and we need to get some freaking bodies back off the DL pronto. Enough is enough. The baseball Gods have to start favoring us eventually.
tonight I think Im still most upset that Salas loaded the bases after collecting two outs and Collins went to Neil Ramirez with the bases loaded with Blevins, Sewald. Reed, and Edgin all available. Geezus...

I agree. You don't give up the lead with Salas and Ramirez. That's also why you don't needlessly pitch Blevins and Sewald with a big lead the day before. That's when they should have used Neil Ramirez and let Salas throw 2.
At some point TC needs to STOP making decisions based on
"wanted to let the player exit on a good note" and manage a fucking baseball game. Holy shit, Terry has no idea what the hell he is doing. He is expecting these pitchers to fail.
Fuck it...let Nelson Figueroa manage the team. He gets it. This guy is spot on with all of his commentary about this team.
But it is just one game. I think the Mets can get back on track.
However, you really have to be concerned with Collins' mismanagement of the pen going forward. This pen is already shaky enough as it is. Can't have the manger throwing gas on the fire.

Not sure if you guys saw it but Marc Carig reported via Twitter that TC said Sewald and Blevins were both unavailable tonight.
Which makes his decision making even worse in my mind. You knew the bullpen was shorthanded, you had Gsellman at 84 pitches, and you don't send him out for the 7th? Nonsensical. I've full on flipped to "fire Terry" mode. I used to defend him, I thought the criticisms were mostly overblown, but he has not made this team accountable, and he has mismanaged the starters and the bullpen at numerous spots this season. They need to at least leak that the next couple of weeks is going to determine his fate.

If I weren't so lazy right now I'd post that gif of the guy vigorously applauding.
the "players manager". He keeps a good clubhouse and players generally like him. That's very important over a long season. When you build him a fool proof roster his mistakes arent magnified all that much and he's no different than any other manager for the most part. The problem is when he doesn't have talent (see Angels teams) or his team is strained for talent due to injuries. His in game management gets magnified and let's face it... that's his weakness.
He's the opposite of Valentine. Valentine was an excellent strategist and got the most from mediocre talent but he couldn't manage a clubhouse of stars when he was handed all the talent in the world.
He pitched Sewald with a five run lead last night and he put in Blevins with a six-run lead.
So, if they are unavailable, it is his own stupidity. But since the Mets had an off day on Monday, I doubt they were unavailable. It is quite likely some BS he is making up.

Eh, not sure I agree with this. He's labeled a "players manager" because he lets the inmates run the asylum. Doesn't hold veterans accountable and the veterans are the ones that run his clubhouse. It's real easy to be a players manager when you don't hold their asses to the fire. And this is also one of his biggest weaknesses. He is an awful awful manager that the GM had to be talked into keeping by their franchise player. But, to be fair, I've gone full heel on Terry so my viewpoint might be the extreme. However, every post game presser he says something more stupid than the day before.
As for Valentine, you may or may not be right...but let's not base it on his time in Boston. I'm not entirely sure he was 100% in it during that time and he was thrust into a losing situation with a clubhouse full of douchbags and bullies.
The media likes Terry and treats him with kid gloves
I think that is the main reason he has stayed so long.
You always hear "players love him." I believe that about the veterans since he always gives them every chance. No doubt in my mind that Reyes, Grandy etc like him. But what about guys like Flores? Not so sure Wilmer loves Terry.
I'm willing to bet that young players don't love Terry. Especially
when they are producing and they get benched or jerked around. Especially when Terry likes to regurgitate his whole "you hit, you play" mantra every year when they are just hollow words. Especially when he continues to downplay their achievements and almost mock them. Ugh, he's an idiot.
They ain't catching AZ, LA, StL, Chicago for a wild card spot. With or without Cespedes.
Hang in there fellas. Hopefully some wins are on the horizon soon.
This team is a fucking joke.
I'm with you, Z.. I need to take some time off from watching this garbage. It's really not worth the aggravation right now.

I have a girl flying in from DC for a long Memorial Day weekend. You guys might seriously not see me for a little bit. hehe.

Probably Neil Ramirez gets sent down/released.
Reynolds shouldn't have been a pinch runner?

Haha, good for you dude. Enjoy.
I sure as hell won't be wasting my time on this team over the weekend either. Need some nice weather, though!
I'd just sell and play the kids. This team isn't going anywhere this season.
