Looking forward to heading to Boston to watch the Naval Academy Women's Lacrosse team participate in their first Final Four ever. They have pulled a string of amazing upsets including over #2 North Carolina in Navy's first ever quarterfinal game. They now face Boston College in the semis. Penn State faces #1 Maryland in the other semi.
Have a great weekend everybody!
Go Navy! Beat Army!

The White House Commission on Remembrance asks us all to pause at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day, as a collective sign of unity to observe our National Moment of Remembrance. As we gather with our friends and family, let us remember with respect and honor the sacrifices so many have made.
Just mentioning this because not sure if you're driving or flying and if you fly, Foxborough is not close to Boston (relatively speaking).
My kids play lacrosse and their teams are pushing them to go to the final 4 this weekend, so we may be there too. Mens and women's. I'd rather go to the women's on Friday night if that's what their teams decide, to keep the weekend free, but not my call.
Have a great weekend Greg and thank you for your service!
Have fun, eat in the North End if you haven't been (or even if you have).
Here's to everyone wearing black and frowning all weekend long!

Ha! I've seen of that bullshit too. If I were to kick over tomorrow, I'd be happy as hell if people wished a happy Memorial Day. Some folks have way too much time on their hands. Happy Memorial Day!
Greg from LI--Were you in the USN? Did you happen to be in during the early 80s?

For a second there, I thought you were going to let us all forget that your daughter goes to Annapolis. Crisis averted!

Don't you dare insult him by insinuating that he was a damn squid!
Wait, I thought you were fed up with all the thanking of veterans? :P
I don't think it's a pure party holiday like 4th of July - I always try to choose a particular battle, usually one that's largely forgotten, as a remembrance to discuss with my kids. And I've volunteered several times to place flags at national cemeteries. So long as people keep things like that in mind, there's no reason to treat the entire weekend like an extended wake. Enjoy your barbeques, hit the beaches, whatever.
Oy.

No...I think thanking veterans is unnecessary and often people do it because it's expected, which it should never be. With that being said, if someone does thank you on Memorial Day, just keep your mouth shut and graciously and humbly accept it without going into some dumb lecture about how it's not Veterans Day.
And Memorial Day is just another holiday that people should enjoy with their loved ones. I'm not a believer in there needing to be an actual "Day of Remembrance" or whatever. What does one day of thinking about and thanking service members, who have died really accomplish other than being that annual "check in the box?" People should go out and enjoy it with their loved ones and not worry about who they're going to offend since some people will get butthurt no matter what.
Pulling your chain. It's what us squids do best....other than dropping you guys off on the beach.

You and your sullen attitude are officially uninvited to my Holocaust Remembrance Day costume party.

with people, I will not be enjoying the weekend since this weekend isn't a weekend we should be enjoying with our family and friends. By enjoying this weekend, you're basically sullying the memories of all the sacrifices made by those, who have made the ultimate sacrifice. And don't you dare thank a service member or a veteran or else you'll be lectured on the true intentions of Memorial Day.

"They lose me right after the bunker scene"
I don't need a special holiday to give props to the veterans, those who have lost their lives or otherwise, as well as all the other hard working folks out there doing the best they can to keep this crazy world spinning. Being appreciative and respectful in general covers you on a daily basis, as far as I am concerned.
A three day weekend, no matter what the reason, is a precious thing in a too short life. Make the most of it and be happy.
I can beat that. Im moving. The worst.
Monday is Murph day for me brah...always a nice way to show a little appreciation and respect for our service men and women. I'll be passing on the weighted vest though, it's hard enough for me without, much respect to anyone who does it with th vest.
Naturally, nice BBQ afterwards, hopefully the weather cooperates!

How did you do on your Murph? I managed to get 45:51 with a 23lb body armor on (I did break up my 100/200/300 into 20 sets of 5/10/15 with deadhang pull-ups). Thankfully the weather was much nicer than I expected. My brother did his without a vest and finished a little over 37 minutes.

Do you break up the run, too? Do a set, then run a say 1/4 mile then another set and on until the the two miles is covered?

Awesome job!! I went no weight vest, finished in 48:56, which was 6 minutes faster than last year. Also broke it up into 20 rounds of 5/10/15, with kipping pull-ups.
The push-ups are the killer, by about round 12 I was down to 2 or 3 at a time, arms were dead. We were fortunate with the weather, caught an hour break from the rain, then it started to pour right as the last couple folks were finishing
No...for this one, I did the prescribed one mile to start and one mile to end. I did the first mile in 8:28 and the second one in 9:48 (I was spent by the time I ran it).
When I did the Murph every weekend for about two months, I did that version where I would run half mile followed by 25/50/75 and repeat four times. That one actually hurt more since you actually end up going faster and harder for each iteration.

I hear you...it sucked. Half way through the 100/200/300, my pull-ups basically became "do two then do one at a time." I also got spared in the rain department as I finished my second mile as it started to rain.

I can only imaging, with you doing your pull-ups strict from a dead hang! Great work. And thank you for your service brother.
Congrats dude!!
That's awesome! Great job!
I've tried the Murph without breaking it up into sets/rounds, and it was totally brutal. And since I don't know how to do kipping (or functional) pull-ups and refuse to ever do them even if I do know (personal preference), I end up spending way too much time completing the pull-ups portion.
Great work to you too and thank you!
Since the first Murph is complete, I'll most likely throw in a variation of the Murph to break up my burpee workouts that I do each Sunday.
If you're up for it, try either the Prison Burpee workout or Death by Burpees workout. They're freaking awesome workouts.
Prison Burpee: Reverse burpee ladder starting from 20 reps down to 1 rep (20, 19, 18...3, 2, 1). Start your first set of burpees in one corner of a medium sized room, then jog to the other side of the room and do the next set (1 less rep than the previous set). Keep going back and forth until you finish with 1. Try to minimize rest.
Ultimate goal is 15 minutes. If you can get under 20 minutes, you're killing it.
Death by Burpee: Start with 1 burpee for the first minute. In your second minute, do 2. You get to rest the remainder of the seconds. Keep doing one more burpee each subsequent minute. Your goal is to complete all of the required reps within that minute and rest only the remaining seconds. Once you cannot complete the required reps, you're done.
Most people can get up to about 12 to 13 reps. If you can get up to 15-16, you're killing it. Ultimate goal is to get up to 20 reps in the 20th minute.
