NFT: Mets - Padres Game 3 - Yup Montero'd!

Rob in Rockaway : 5/25/2017 7:25 pm
This clown is on a 75 or so pitch limit. TC said they were hoping to get 4-5 innings out of him. He's at 30+ pitches in the first inning with bases loaded and 1 out. 1-0 Padres already.

Thank God the hockey game is on tonight. Go Sens (I hate Pit).

The fact that the Mets continue to put Montero on the mound is
PhiPsi125 : 5/25/2017 7:35 pm : link
just indicative of just how inept this ballclub is at running a team. From Sandy down to Terry. This team is just fantastic.

Pitching for the Mets tonight:

Is it Coaching?
Samiam : 5/25/2017 7:55 pm : link
Just asking. But, it bugs the hell out of me how most Mets pitchers don't challenge hitters but nibble around the corners running up the pitch count. I'm sure Montero is a goner and he should be. It seems to me though that he has good stuff but almost seems afraid to throw the ball over the plate, it seems like a few of the pitchers are afraid to throw the ball over the plate. Are they coached that way ?
84 pitches in 3rd inning

Now the third base coach will spend the next four weeks putting up the hold sign and sending NOBODY home.
Looks like they teach shitty bunting techniques to pitchers
PhiPsi125 : 5/25/2017 8:56 pm : link
in the minors also. Serious question...has a met pitcher successfully landed a bunt yet this season? I seriously don't know. But I expect the answer to be no.

Sandy did such a great job building this team up. Yeah, there were a few dumb moves, such as releasing Justin Turner. But overall, he was very judicious.

Last year and a half, he has been truly awful. Kept Collins around way too long for starters. And then he does not even respect Terry enough to keep him in the loop on personnel decisions. Why the fuck is he the manger then?

The organization is a mess.

IIRC deGrom has gotten down a couple of good bunts but that's no surprise. Pretty much nothing he doesn't do well athletically

It's time for the medical retirement and buy out at the end of the season
As much as I know it would never happen I would support him replacing TC as manager
TC contract is up and doesn't seem like there are any suitable replacements out there
David Wright for manager has my vote

Is Frank Viola a possibility too?
I love Wright as much as the next guy
steve in ky : 5/25/2017 9:05 pm : link
but I would hate to see him just handed the managers job. If he is interested let him manage in the minors for awhile.

I agree. But that would never happen anyway. That's just silly.

And as much as I love DW, I'm not so sure he has the mental makeup to be a manager. He just such a nice guy, lol. I'm tired of that. The Mets need a gritty manager that isn't afraid to, you know, actually manage a baseball game. And that was more of a hit on TC, not DW.
Holy Hell, Duda is slow. How do you not beat out that double play?

I think it works for everyone better if he just stays out with injury. They apparently have a great insurance policy on his contract.
Duda murders a potential rally

I don't give a shit about his solo homeruns including tonight. Time to cut bait with this guy. He's just holding Smith's spot anyway. Duda is a massive cocktease and nothing more

Yeah it really isn't hurting the team for him to be on the DL. Let him get paid and able to be around the team he loves, and let the team collect the insurance.
Wright for manager

Viola for pitching coach

Dom Smith 1B
Cecchini 2B
Rosario Ss
Flores 3B
Cez. Comforto. Nimmo / Lagares. Outfield

FA catcher
FA 9th inning closer

Lugo and Gsellman. 7 and 8 inning reliever
Goodby Doody and Grandy. Trade Bruce while he has value
Keep Cabrera and Reyes around for veteran bench

If they can somehow fix the Pen and Ces comes back and stays healthy they still may make a run at the playoffs.

Matz, Lugo and Cespedes coming back soon

Sandy should go nab David Robertson though for sure come July if they wanna make a run deep again..

I would feel better if Noah was healthy and Harvey wasn't pitching like shit. It would be one thing if it was just the bullpen, the rotation is just as big of a problem. In fact you can make the case the rotation is the reason the bullpen is so bad.

Smith hasn't exactly been tearing it up in AAA. He hasn't been bad but 5 homeruns in 211 at bats in Vegas is not good enough for the majors. He needs more time to develop.

He may need more time to develop but it's hard to downplay the below:

.309 BA
.365 OBP
.829 OPS
But Smith's numbers
Metnut : 5/26/2017 10:33 am : link
are in Vegas where offense is inflated ridiculously. Duda has a 135 wRC in his limited action this year. His OBP is a ridiculous .392, and that's in major league action. Smith isn't even close to that and he's facing AAA scrubs in a super coors field type of environment.

Smith needs more time to develop. If you want to give up on the season closer to the deadline and trade Duda for something and play Smith, that might make sense, but right now, Duda is a better player and I don't think its close.

I think the Mets would be overpaying in that scenario. Rumors are that the Braves will give Colon one more start before they remove him from the rotation. I doubt that they would release him because of his contract. He will likely assume the long man role in the bullpen.
