NFT: Cavs Celts game 5 - Celtics facing elimination

Cavs up by 20 - not a pretty game for Boston in Boston.
Who cares about preseason basketball?

Very nice, competitive Conference Final,

A bit more competitive than the western conference final. It sucks how star players in free agency basically control who's going to win the championship in this sport.

Boston has stabilized a bit but it might already be too late. Cleveland came out of the gates too fast for them and they weren't ready for it.

LeBron James.. now the NBA's all-time leading playoff scorer.

Took him more games than Jordan, which is fair to point out. But still an incredible accomplishment for an incredible player.
This jokes a little silly, but true

He also did it with less attempts than Jordan.

I actually didn't know that. Good stuff.

That complaint had more traction in the Heat era. More accurately right now, in the East it isnt free agents picking so much as Lebron's team is a lock for the finals. 7th straight for him in the FA/cap era is amazing. Their other major pieces (Kyrie, Love, TT, Smith etc) were acquired by draft or trade. GSW made 2 straight finals based on a core of 3 drafted players, Steph, Klay, and Dray. Iggy was a FA signing but wasnt a star. I think it's pretty shortsighted to attribute their Finals trip to Durant signing there.
Don't think the Finals will be as competitive
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 5/26/2017 8:42 am : link
as many think it will be unless LBJ just totally goes off, which is entirely possible. The Warriors are going to shred the Cavs defense.

My rooting interest here is that Love plays poorly enough that GM LeBron stupidly insists on a Melo+ for Love trade (Love going to a 3rd team).
I fucking hate the Warriors
giantsfan44ab : 5/26/2017 10:14 am : link
But I'll admit that's the ideal model for how to take a team from the gutter to historic ranks. Hit on a few lottery picks (Steph, Klay and Barnes) get a steal (Draymond), make smart trades (Bogut, Lee), make smart FA signings (Livingston, barbosa, Speights, McGee) and then top talent will follow (Iggy and KD).
GSW isnt a great model
Deej : 5/26/2017 10:49 am : link
because it's not repeatable. They got an MVP with the #7 pick in the draft, and then resigned him to a great contract just before he because a huge star. They got a top 20 player in all of basketball in the 2nd round.

Warriors were like someone rolling an 8 six straight times at the craps table.
Fair enough

Is Bradley
ryanmkeane : 5/26/2017 1:09 pm : link
going to get a max deal? If not, he'd be a great piece for Knicks to add. Great perimeter defender and good scorer.

I hope so. But there will likely be a game where the Warriors shots don't fall, and there will almost certainly be a game where 1, 2 or 12 of the Warriors players are in early foul trouble.
With the signing of Horford, the Celts took a step forward this season
Ira : 5/26/2017 4:39 pm : link
With the first pick in the draft and another top signing this summer, they could give Cleveland a much better series.
I love the warriors style of play

Though I can't stand Draymond's antics and Klay's unsportsmanlike behavior in the finals last year. But I don't see how the Cavs stop them. I want to see the Cavs win because of the Herculean effort or would require from LeBron but I don't they pick up more then a game

Yeah, Klay's behavior was disappointing. Draymond, though, was either the first or second player to genuinely and enthusiastically congratulate LeBron James.

I get that his boisterous reactions might rub people the wrong way, but at the same time, so many of these people spend a lot of words clamoring for the days in which basketball wasn't soft. I'm not sure what they want really... someone who's intense, yet only in a business-like fashion?
