NFT: A's vs Yankees sat matinee

superspynyg : 5/27/2017 1:46 pm
1-0 after 1 1/2.
CC with 5 k's
Sanchez nails Plouff to end too 2nd. Great throw.
Sanchez
River : 5/27/2017 1:48 pm : link
With a laser throw from his knees to nail the runner at 2nd on a steal.
Sabathia
RasputinPrime : 5/27/2017 2:12 pm : link
really struggling with his command today. Too many K's.
You'd think the Yanks were facing Koufax and Gibson
mfsd : 5/27/2017 2:18 pm : link
the way the As starters are mowing them down last night and today. Leading 1-0 without a hit yet so far in this one
Castro and Holiday are coming back down to Earth, too.
bceagle05 : 5/27/2017 2:24 pm : link
Need Sanchez to get on a tear, and then Bird when he knocks the rust off.
By the way
River : 5/27/2017 2:27 pm : link
I think the "Judges chambers" thing that Randy Levine put up to try to draw attendance is too much pressure for a young man first year in the bigs.
He hasn't been the same hitter since they put that up. Leave it to Levine to fuck up a young star coming in to his own for profit.
Getting no hit
13ODB : 5/27/2017 2:44 pm : link
By a pitcher who came into the game with a ERA over 5.60. And yet still holding onto to a 1-0. This offense has come back down to earth this home stand starting pitching has been good.
A's broadcasters are all over the home plate ump
Stu11 : 5/27/2017 2:53 pm : link
can't say I blame them. horrific alignment there. have to take away the extra base hit there
Torreyes
Kyle in NY : 5/27/2017 2:55 pm : link

I think it is clearly about trying to draw in younger fans but to say it has impacted Judge is a stretch. He is being pitched differently and to his credit he is taking his singles and walks
I don't get hitting Sanchez 2nd
phil in arizona : 5/27/2017 2:59 pm : link
he was a 'drive in runs' guy his whole career. Now he's supposed to be an obp/move the runners over guy?

Holliday!
bceagle05 : 5/27/2017 3:03 pm : link
Clutch homer!
Happy Holliday...2 run HR

It's been explained a billion times. Hitting a hitter 2nd as compared to 3rd will get him around 40 more abs throughout the season. And the only time it even matters is the 1st inning, as far as the possibility of driving in runs. Look around the league. Kris Bryant has hit 2nd. Giancarlo Stanton was hitting 2nd yesterday when I tuned in. The game has progressed. The thinking is you bat your best hitter 2nd, for the most part.
When Holiday gets em
Kyle in NY : 5/27/2017 3:05 pm : link
they go a long ways. That's some real strength
Holiday with a BOMB!
Dave in Hoboken : 5/27/2017 3:09 pm : link
BOOM! We needed that.
Long term, I bet Gleyber bats second,
bceagle05 : 5/27/2017 3:11 pm : link
with Sanchez, Bird and Judge behind him. That should be fun.

This game has been a real grind. Let's get some insurance.
On balance, the umps still owe the Yanks a few more

That ump..

Dellin!!!!

Keep shoving it up Randy Levine's ass!! I wish Hal would can that douchebag already.
Home plate ump was really bad
Kyle in NY : 5/27/2017 4:26 pm : link
Betances fantastic, don't usually win a game with two hits.
Thanks superspy

Please start tomorrow's thread too.
I had no problem with Joe leaving in Clippard yesterday,
shockeyisthebest8056 : 5/27/2017 4:31 pm : link
but today it was dumb. Luckily, Betances got out of the jam. If there was any scenario in which Joe was going to use him to get five outs, he should've put Dellin out there before the situation was a clusterfuck.

Good job by Holliday and CC.
Have to solve the 3b problem
Mike B from JC : 5/27/2017 4:51 pm : link
Headly,is terrible and torreyes, shows why he's a backup. Hurting them badly. Gotta get the bats going again. Need a good lefty reliever and a starter. Going to have to part with some of the excess they have at 2b and SS
Time to bring up...
Ed A. : 5/27/2017 6:29 pm : link
Torres to play third. Should also consider Fowler for cf. I know he's not on the 40 man, however, Have to improve this team now.
We have all that stuff in the system
Phil in LA : 5/27/2017 6:39 pm : link
we don't have to part with anything.

Has Torres even been in AAA for a week? Gotta give him a little time.
Torres
PaulN : 5/27/2017 6:54 pm : link
Needs to stay put at least until the All Star break, he is not tearing it up, so let's give the kid time, this was not supposed to be the year we contended, let's remember that. They are getting ready to promote Torres and Chance Adams. But they don't need to rush them.
With some luck
PaulN : 5/27/2017 6:55 pm : link
Ellsbury will be out for the year and then we may see Fowler also.
RE: With some luck
Neckbone1333 : 5/27/2017 6:59 pm : link
If serious, very silly comment.

His D has been great and .281 4 and 14 is pretty good. Upton will get his chance.

Who is Upton
PaulN : 5/27/2017 7:02 pm : link
Ellsbury gets hurt every year and then can never recover from those injuries, remember, or is it just my silliness.
Fowler
PaulN : 5/27/2017 7:07 pm : link
seems like a perfect type player for this team, but he is held back by Ellsbury, I also hate the thought of moving Gardner only because of Ellsbury. Sure, he is talented, there is no arguing that at all. But he gets injured often and takes forever to recover from those injuries, this is the story of his career. Otherwise he would be an outstanding player. But he was outstanding for only 1 season.

With a little luck you stop posting awful ideas. Ellsbury has been very good this season do you fucking watch the games or just bitch and moan. Yes let's hope ellsbury is out for the season fucking brilliant.

Why do so many fans enjoy being angry at a player because of money. Sad.

Waahhhh. Hold yourself back.

The legend of fowler grows.
We're still in first place
mfsd : 5/27/2017 8:03 pm : link
despite our closer and first basemen being out for a while, Sanchez was out early, Ellsbury banged up as usual, Tanaka going in a weird funk for several starts, and after a hot start Headley has been awful.

No need for panic at all...Torres comes up after all star break I think and we could tap the system for pitching reinforcements if needed
I can't get on ellsbury
djm : 5/27/2017 8:11 pm : link
For getting hurt when he literally smashed his head against the center field wall as he caught the ball. Yes he misses a lot of time but he gets a big fat pass from me on this latest injury. I love his game honestly. Last year he had a bad year even when healthy but I think he's a solid player overall. If he can play in 130 games or so we'd be fine in CF as long as fans don't riot over his contract-- heaven forbid. So he makes 20 mill per who cares. Would it really make any difference if ellsbury only made 13 per? Nope.
Love his game is a little much
djm : 5/27/2017 8:11 pm : link
I like his game though.
Good points about Ells
mfsd : 5/27/2017 8:13 pm : link
I know I'm one who needs to stop griping about his contract, it's a sunk cost, nothing gained by continuing to bellyache about it.
I like Ellsbury as a player
Matt M. : 5/27/2017 8:18 pm : link
But, I also dislike his contract. It is not wrong to gripe about it because it's not a simple sunk cost. It makes it very difficult to deal him.

But, worse than the contract itself is having him and Gardner on the same team. It is redundant. And now, with guys on the verge of breaking in to the majors it is a problem.

The bragging about Ellsbury, the player who never stays on the field, I watch every game. I actually know the game, I also understand what the yanks are doing, and Ellsbury is in the way, and you know it. The time is now to find out about all our young players as soon as possible. Fowler deserves a chance to show if he is the real deal, the team does not need to win this season, they need to learn about what they have in the system, Fowler is ready, he should get a shot. I wish the Yanks would release Ellsbury, we don't need him, at all. Listen, I know you want to make your name bashing anything I say, so go ahead, it's the cool thing to do. Check in with me now and then about Ellsbury and all the good he is doing for the team. I would love to hear it.
