NFT: Has anyone ever had a MUGA Scan?

Klaatu : 5/28/2017 1:06 pm
I have to have one next week. It doesn't sound very serious...kind of like an MRI or CT Scan...just curious to see if anyone here has ever had one.
not fair Klaatu....

It's short for Multigated Acquisition Scan. It's supposed to evaluate how strong your heart is pumping. My heart, in this case.

I'm sure all of BBI's readers and posters are hoping the results come out well for you.

Did a little reading on the MUGA scan since I'm getting up there in age and was curious what it was about.
Interesting read that I hope my doctor doesn't prescribes anytime soon.

They will be doing both an EKG and taking pictures of your heart during the test.
The test can be done two ways: one resting the other just after you finished exercising.
To make it easier for the camera to see what your heart is doing they will add a dye [tracer] to your blood prior to the test. The test is considered accurate and inexpensive.

You should be able to go home within 3 hours after the test started.

No smoking or caffeine 48 hours prior to scan. No eating or drinking 6 hours prior.

***Need to drink plenty of water for a few days [ask doc] to wash the dye tracer out of your system starting after the test.

Risks associated with the test are small, unless you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Maybe a BBI doctor will add something.

...........

The test is serious because it is your heart and it all centers on the results.

I hope the result come back very good. Good luck.
