If we were to lose 2 to 3 key players to injury this year

CMicks3110 : 6/11/2017 9:38 am
which loss would hurt us the most? We have a lot more depth on this roster than in years past, and even if we to lose someone like Beckham or Eli, I still kind of think we could absorb it. I think the player we could most ill afford to lose is Damon Harrison, his run stuffing ability was so impactful last season, I would imagine if we were to lose him, we would be in deep sh*t. My list of most indispensable players on this roster are.

1. Harrison
2. Beckham
3. Eli
4. Vernon
5. Collins
6. DRC

Just look at our playoff game last year against Green Bay.

When our corners went down we went down.

This is a passing league now

If Jackrabbit goes down for any length of time we are royally screwed imo
You really think Eli isn't the most important?
Neckbone1333 : 6/11/2017 9:44 am : link
Serious question.
Eli, given our backups now, I don't think is #1
CMicks3110 : 6/11/2017 9:46 am : link
we won last year more in spite of him than because of him, so no, i don't think he's most important.
Terrible thread... But in order.
est1986 : 6/11/2017 9:47 am : link
Eli Manning
Odell Beckham
Snacks Harrison
Janoris Jenkins
Landon Collins
Eli Apple/DRC
JPP/OV
Ereck Flowers
Pugh/Richburg

Disagree. Our backups are Gino Smith, Josh Johnson and Davis Webb.

Smith was abysmal with the Jets. Johnson has never started a game and Webb is a raw rookie. Eli goes down, we are screwed.

Eli

No doubt.

The season is FUBAR if that happens.
For me they are
ZogZerg : 6/11/2017 10:14 am : link
Eli
Snacks
Jenkins

In that order
Eli
PatersonPlank : 6/11/2017 10:39 am : link
after him we can survive, but if he goes down we're screwed this year
Easily Eli #1
RinR : 6/11/2017 10:48 am : link
and we didnt win in spite of him last year. We won in spite of no TEs, no FB, no #2 WR and below par OL play.
Eli
JohnB : 6/11/2017 10:49 am : link
Period. End of conversation.

If he's not there, this team isn't winning.
Giants won the SB without Simms
CMicks3110 : 6/11/2017 10:57 am : link
you don't think the Giants can win without Eli? I think given our defensive talent and offensive skill position talent, even a lower tier QB could win with this team. Just my opinion.
I think
ChicagoMarty : 6/11/2017 12:06 pm : link
we can win if Eli gets hurt only if the OL steps up like the coaching staff seems to think it will. I don't think there is that much dropoff to our second string qbs.

But I do think there is a tremendous dropoff from Jackrabbit to Michael Hunter and from DRC to Donte Deayon in the slot

But the rest of the team isn't anywhere close to the 1990 Giants. But the huge difference is in the coaching staff.

Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick, Romeo Crennen, Al Groh, Ron Erhardt, Tom Coughlin, Mike Pope, Charlie Weis. There was some serious talent within those ranks. Ben McAdoo is good and might be very good someday but the 1990 Giants staff stands alone. And Super Bowl 25 was the best coaching job I've ever seen.
It would be much more problematic.....
njm : 6/11/2017 1:32 pm : link
if we were to lose 2 or 3 starters from the same position. CB and OL would be the worst imho.
Did some of you watch the playoffs last year or the year before?
ZogZerg : 6/11/2017 1:32 pm : link
How well did the Raiders do when their starting QB went down? How about the Texans and their shit at QB? We have shit behind Eli at QB. If he goes down there is no chance to win it all.

This is absurd. The Giants would immediately be a dog in every game Eli is out regardless of the opponent.

If a corner goes down they slide Apple and DRC to the outside. Spags could scheme to cover the loss and we know from past performance a good rush can cover a lot in the secondary.

There is no one on this roster remotely equivalent to Jeff Hostetler. That was a starting talent backup -we were so golden those years with him as the #2.
Will
ChicagoMarty : 6/11/2017 4:11 pm : link
Disagree.

I think you vastly overrate Eli as well as our ability to scheme around the loss of any of our top cb's.

This is a matchup league now roughly equivalent to how the NBA looks to matchup and exploit any individual mis matches.
It's significantly overrating Eli to think there's a big drop off
Devon : 6/11/2017 4:42 pm : link
from him to Josh Johnson or Geno Smith? If that ends up the actual case, there needs to be a huge tempering of expectations for this season, especially with their schedule because that caliber QB ain't gonna cut it.

Anyway, QB aside, it's more if they were to bunch injuries at one position than losing any one player (2 from the secondary, 2 DL, etc) that they'd be screwed.

The QB is the most important and impactful position on the team. The offense would be an absolute shit show without Eli. It's not about "overating Eli" -- the backup QBs on this team are bottom of the barrel. If the Giants had Fitzpatrick or McCown as a backup the point would be somewhat plausible, but as is it's patently absurd.
Eli, Harrison, Jenkins.
FStubbs : 6/11/2017 8:09 pm : link
Any of those three go down, the Giants are screwed, and Beckham is a close fourth.
Eli, DRC, Harrison
adamg : 6/12/2017 3:42 am : link
Any CB goes down, we're starting that small CB from TENN "Valentino" Blake who's in the NFL's witness protection program after fucking up twice on special teams in consecutive weeks. I'd rather not have Spags need to scheme around guys like that.

Eli is the captain of the ship. All the tools in the world mean nothing if we don't have the guy most capable of turning them into a championship unit wielding them.

And Snacks is a one man run defense. There's no other player in the league with his level of impact on rushing offenses. Playing Dallas twice makes that trait invaluable.

Those are my top 3. Next up is Beckham. If we didn't add two play makers to our receiving corps this offseason (BMarsh and Engram), he'd make the cut over DRC. But, I think we have enough that if the worst were to come, we can make due.
So we finally have a season that doesn't get derailed by injuries
GiantsRage2007 : 6/12/2017 8:26 am : link
and we need to make up pretend injury scenarios and the damage they will cause... only on BBI
Eli is at the top of my list. Even Brady couldn't do what he did last
Ivan15 : 6/12/2017 1:38 pm : link
year.

Receivers are deep only because Beckham is #1. Lose him and receivers are mediocre, so Beckham is #2 on my list.

Jenkins third. Harrison fourth.
