Sheperd's year 1 to year 2 progress...

seems to have been underestimated in the draft discussions on BBI.
Wheeler and Bisnowaty both with the 2nd team already
j_rud : 6/14/2017 8:58 am : link
Man would it be nice if one of them panned out...
Did AdBlock cover some content?

All I got was that Shepard made a few catches and a look at the offensive depth chart with Pugh and Ellison hurt. There had to be more that went on than that.

One?? I want both on this team. Both have the talent but injuries and off field issues dropped them.

My hope if they keep 9

RT Hart
RG Fluker
C Richburg
LG Pugh
LT Flowers

backups
G Jerry
Bisnowaty
Wheeler
Gettis

If they keep 8; Wheeler on practice squad (but I doubt he stays there long.

You have to keep scrolling down.
Well of course I want both to become players
j_rud : 6/14/2017 9:59 am : link
Just keeping things realistic. Both give reason to be hopeful but also reason to keep expectations grounded. Lets be honest about it: we're talking about a 6th round pick and an UDFA. Odds are neither becomes a starter. If one does it's a boon. If they both become solid depth that's still a big plus. And that's not being negative, it's just keeping expectstions reasonable.
Jones is making the team
RollBlue : 6/14/2017 10:12 am : link
as the primary backup Center, and played well in limited time a Guard. Gettis isn't making the team over him. Also, Jerry will start at RG.

Well yeah, anything could happen. I just wouldn't count on it. I'm not ripping the kid but this is becoming a case study in fan overreaction and unrealistic expectations. A guy no one talked about here pre-draft is picked. They latch onto an image, the long hair, the old school mask, the "mean streak" (which I pretty sure has been mentioned in every single article so far), and somehow it becomes "hey, this 6th round pick could start day 1". Nevermind that he was available in the 6th for a reason. Nevermind that he was abused at Senior Bowl practices. Nevermind that earning a starting role could be a result of only having a marginal RT in Hart to begin with. All that kinda gets swept under the rug because he has a 3 bar face mask and no barber.

And again, I'm not ripping the kid. I hope once the pads go on he lights things up. I'm just saying, for every David Diehl there are 25 or 30 James Brewers. That's just the facts.
I've said before...

That I thought Shepard's rookie season was underwhelming. Well, so far he's looked pretty "whelming" to me. Good for him and good for the Giants.

I, too, was less than thrilled with Bisnowaty's performance at the Senior Bowl, however, it was pointed out to me by Dave Te and others that he was still nursing a series of foot injuries that plagued him throughout his senior year. I think he has a good shot at replacing Bobby Hart at RT, although it's been noted that Hart has been working very hard to up his game (like Flowers). It should make for a hell of a battle in camp this summer.

The foot and ankle injuries are another concern. It's certainly a valid reason why he struggled his senior year and pre-draft and maybe it won't follow him into his pro career. But don't you also have to wonder about the cumulative effect of numerous foot and ankle injuries on a guy whose mobility and athleticism are already a weak point in his game?

Bottom line is we all want the same thing. No one here doesn't want him to come in and play well above his draft status. I just have a harder time seeing past all the question marks.
Why is LB Robinson not listed in the defensive lineups?

TE in backfield ...
annexOPR : 6/14/2017 12:30 pm : link
could be an interesting redzone look

Marshall Adams [OL] Ellison ODB ... swing pass to Engram out of the backfield ...

I just don't know how much more you could have expected. It's not like he was a top prospect.

Don't chart personnel every play, so a guy may slip through the cracks every now and then. Robinson was mixing in with the first and second defenses, as usual.

No problem. Just a little worried when I read they are giving Herzlich snaps over guys that, you know...can actually play the LB position.

Ha no need for concern. I usually try to note the personnel at the start of a period. Once they start rotating it's tough to keep track.

Underwhelming? That's ridiculous. You can't expect much more from a rookie slot receiver. So what would have been a solid stat line for a rookie 2nd round receiver for you? Pad those stats a little more and he's borderline pro bowl which for a rookie receiver is spectacular esp 2nd round.

Shepard has admitted that he could have done a better job in the YAC department. I agree.

And, yeah, I can expect a lot more from the 40th pick of the draft, especially in light of how the 47th pick of the draft performed.
That's a weird comparison standard to make
Ten Ton Hammer : 6/15/2017 12:40 pm : link
For one, they're not remotely the same type of receiver. Sterling Shepard is likely never going to be an outside the numbers, first or second option type player. They couldn't be more different physical archetypes either.

2nd, playing for the Saints is going to inflate anyone's offensive numbers.
