NFT: Things to do/see in Pittsburgh?

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 6/14/2017 6:48 pm
Going to be there Friday-Sunday with brother in law who got tickets to Cubs Pirates Saturday night. I've driven through the city, but never really spent anytime there.

Any recommendations on what to check out/bars to hit up?
One of the most popular things to do in Pittsburgh
Deej : 6/14/2017 7:01 pm : link
is to leave and go somewhere better. If you must stay, they city is well known for its fair weather fandom. Their local hockey team recently won its league championship, so feel free to adopt the quaint local tradition of claiming you've been a fan since the Lemiuex days and lying about abandoning the team like the rest of the city, almost forcing it to declare bankruptcy. Or take in a baseball game and sit with 14 other fans, as the local baseball team sucks again so nobody goes (attendance, down 7,500 fans a night from 2 years ago). Recently, it has received attention for the fact that it is not Paris, although that distinction is likely true of other places as well.

(no I kid, Pittsburgh was fine, although my best memory of it was a fried fish sandwich at a fish market, which isnt that impressive a memory for a whole city).

(and only) hooters in Pittsburgh. I was with a customer and we were going to a Pirates game and that's where we went before the game. It's now closed as the area has been built up with higher quality establishments.

PNC park is beautiful. the whole area around PNC and Heinz is fun. Lost of generic pubs, bars, and restaurants. None were memorable, but I had a good time.

I was going to say the same thing. The fried fish sandwich. Lots great historical sites as well if you like history. Go see a Pirates game, beautiful ball park.

Its not the bar you have to worry about. I think the bathroom stalls are his dojos unfortunately.

Thats hilarious.

The only unifying thing about being a NY fan in Philly is our mutual hatred of the Cowboys and the Penguins. There is one Penguin fan I see a ton who shows up at the same bars I do and he is such a loud mouth prick. Clamoring on about Sidney Crosby being better than Gretzky. He is such a dweeb when hes up to play pool he has to "run home to get his cue"...he couldnt bring it with him to start with. Thing is, hes not even that good at pool. Im not great pool wonder, but I kick his ass piss drunk every time.

I used to like the Steelers. Fuck the Penguins. Fuck Pittsburgh.

I'd recommend the Southern Tier Brewpub if you're over by the stadiums. And there's a whole stretch of bars in that area in between Heinz and pnc. PNC is a beautiful park. The train is free within downtown and the stadiums

Take the incline up to Mt Washington and enjoy the view (you can get to the incline easily from the stadiums via the train but it is out of the free zone)
Bar hop on carson street in the south side
Checkout the street market feel of the strip district on a weekend morning/afternoon
Downtown has some rooftop bars - sienna Mercado and bier garten.
Lawrencville has the best restaraunts in a city with a surprisingly good food scene for its size- Pocolo Forno and Cure are two of my favorites
Check out the Cathedral of Learning at Pitt and walk around Carnegie Mellon and the nearby parks
Check out point park and the confluence where the Ohio river starts (You can rent kayaks behind PNC park on the water)
There's a big casino right next to Heinz

Make sure to register for a driverless uber! (Uber is trying the technology here. Ride is free and there is a human behind the wheel for legal/safety reasons)
Easy now chopperhatch there's a few ok pittsburghers

Go bar hopping on Carson St. (South Side)

I don't know how busy it will be with the colleges students out of summer but it's usually where we went in college.
I remember being in Pittsburgh airport, albeit some time ago -
Del Shofner : 6/14/2017 8:57 pm : link
I was hungry and felt like having some soup. At the airport restaurant I asked if they had any soup (you could see the different foods that were available, and I didn't see soup). The waitress pointed to one of the food containers and said "Yes, cheese soup." It was melted Velveeta!

Hard to get that one out of my mind. But from what I've read, Pittsburgh is actually a pretty nice place these days.
Pittsburgh sucks choad.

Since Jagr and Mario Lemieux. That's right. That's when I started to get into hockey.

I do love Jager though!! Especially when served cold!!!

Pittsburgh is a very underrated city with excellent italian food and a very good town to drink and discuss sports. Its not NY or even Austin but its fairly good and its boring/bad rap is a bit of a leftover.

Primanti's is totally overrated. I'd find eateries in South Station and Shadyside/Squirrel Hill. Great charming neighborhoods this time of year to walk through.

You will have a great time at the park.

Best thing is the airport when you are leaving
PatersonPlank : 6/15/2017 10:03 am : link
Seeing it in the window as the plane was taking off was the best part of my trip.

Been there four times in the last year, including game 5 one week ago.

Others have said

-If you can, enter the city from the Ft Pitt Bridge; it is a spectacular view.
-Definitely do the Duquensce Incline or Mt Washington.
-Go to Point City Park
-Check out the strip district in the morning; while there get the sausage rolls from Pennsylvania Macaroni Company
-Get peorigis & alike from S & D Polish Deli
-Have breakfast @ Pamela's or brunch/dinner @ Luke Whollys

-Visit Station Square, Rivers Casino

Enjoy it Yinz!
What..
