Would've liked to see TdA in there tonight vs Gonzalez. But otherwise, I like the top of this order, especially Flo in front of Cespedes. This will be a tough one, hope Gsellman is on his A+ game tonight.
Gio vs. Gslleman tonight
Scherzer vs. ? Tomorrow
Strasburg vs. ? Sat
Ross vs. Degrom Sunday
Nats have the upper hand here until Sunday, but I have to think that the players are frustrated that they can score 10 runs and still lose. Nats Pen is terrible and no lead is safe.
The Mets can make their season very interesting again if they can find a way to take 3 of 4 here. Absolutely cannot do any worse than a split - but even that would be disappointing.
Really huge opportunity to get right back into the NLE race with a decisive series here.

Why are they question marks and not Matz or Lugo. Both not as good as Scherzer and Stras, but both also have the ability to go pitch for pitch with them when on their A game.
Where Mets are appointment TV for me. Hoping they can start it off with a W tonight. Conforto most likely back tomorrow. Dont hate TC giving Lagares another day vs the lefty while also improving the defense.
As was said by arc, nothing less than a split will be satisfactory. Kinda need 3 though.
Walker (hamstring tear) & Harvey (scapula bone stress injury) will miss "several weeks" according to Lennon on twitter.
As far as injuries go, neither of these should have the impact of the earlier injuries. Hopefully Harvey can just get himself pitching better for the stretch run. Flores/TJ/Cecchini should be fine manning 2nd until Cabrera is back (and hopefully Rosario is up).
not expected to begin throwing until mid-late July.
This is what we thought initially. Puts him on track to return mid-late August is no setbacks. With Harvey gone Mets have no room for another rotation injury.
To the Mets credit, the fact that a series sweep (not out of the question after watching the Nats latest home stand) could put them back in the race with all the injuries they've sustained is remarkable.
pitching matchup tonight from a Mets pov. Gsellmen has looked really good his last few starts and Gio has had some nice babip luck to start the season and still walks a ton of guys. Even if Gio is on, he throws a ton of pitches and Mets will have a shot at the Nats pen. Gsellmen actually has a lower FIP than Gio.
it allows him to rest and rehab properly without the stress of pitching in Queens. It also gets the Mets a chance to remove one of their worse starters this season out of the rotation without the embarrassment

To clarify on Syndergaard, he was reexamined today. The Mets do not feel his strained lat has healed well enough for him to begin throwing.

Josh Smoker's shoulder is fine but he has loose bodies in his elbow, so anti-inflammatories and some rest, per Sandy.

Good post. I don't think Harvey is a lost cause yet by any means, but he wasn't helping the team that way he was pitching. A chance for him to rest, work on his mechanics and maybe come back better could be a good thing for us.
We really need to cross our fingers that the rest of the starters stay healthy. DeGrom/Matz/Gsellmen/Lugo/Wheeler isn't an elite rotation like we were hoping but it still has the potential to be pretty good and get us back into the race.
The blessing might be that the injury will make Sandy think twice about signing him longterm. I think Sandy really wants to sign him as a comp for losing Murphy.
Might also make Walker amenable to a two-year deal. Given that he will be 32 and will have missed significant time each of the last two seasons, teams will be reluctant to give him a long deal.
Walker has been much more clutch in his second season in NY. Definitely would not mind him on a two-year deal, especially since Cecchini is looking more and more like a bust
I get that the Lagares injury probably happens no matter what but how can this org not take a serious look at the trainers and methodology being used on these players?
The fact that this entire fucking team is getting hurt year in and year out cannot possibly be a coincidence at this point. I honestly think there's a problem with this training staff and have said it many times. I wish they'd take a more serious look at this and overhaul the entire thing. It sure as hell can't get any fucking worse.

The Giants proved that a training staff can have a profound impact on injuries. It is no coincidence that the Giants led the league two years in a row, even setting a new NFL record for starters games lost to injury, with Coughlin's staff and then they are among the healthiest in football with McAdoo's new staff.
rough. Completely misjudged the pitching matchup. Gio was really good and Gsellmen wasn't good. Lagares injury sucks.
Oh well. Let's steal it tomorrow vs Scherzer and have some fun this weekend. Can we please bring Rosario up? Reyes is sooooooo bad and Reynolds is worse.

Yup, the Giants are exactly why I am feeling very strongly that this is a training staff issue. The Mets are ravaged by injuries every fucking year. I can't even remember the last season that it felt like barely anyone got hurt. It's ridiculous.
Can someone list the pitching matchups for the series?
Scherzer vs. ? Tomorrow
Strasburg vs. ? Sat

Thank you. Yes, I just didn't know who the Mets had pitching other than tonight and Sunday.

Noted. Sorry if that sounded snippy then. Regardless, I like the Mets chances in every game. Huge series indeed.
I'm only right about such things very occasionally. Damn, the guy is a fucking train wreck.

it seems like Rivera and TDa are alternating games.
Evan Engrom is pitching the first pitch at Citifield tonight.
Actually a little pumped for this. Hopefully the Mets don't kill my buzz.

At this point he might be a guy they consider non tender this offseason
2-1 nats
Just keep it close and work gios pitch count now
I don't know why I get my hopes up.
The Mets with a short bench again.

So much for getting healthy. Never happens with this team.

Or will it be both since all these guys are going on the DL simultaneously?
