Did a few searches and didn't see this discussed, found it in an article on defenderdawg's daily thread (btw, thanks dd, you're the man). After not calling the D at Clemson Goodson is settling in as the play caller, and he apparently doesn't have any problem getting loud with his teammates, even established veterans, when they're out of position. From yesterday's Post...
“I almost had to get on him the other day, he kind of yelled at me a little bit, and I had to realize that’s my linebacker and he don’t know me like that, so I’m gonna let him have that,’’ Rodgers-Cromartie said. “I let it go this time. Not next time.’’
The decibel level was not appreciated, but what about the content of Goodson’s call?
“He was correct, but just say it to me,’’ DRC said. “Don’t yell.’’ |
Before anyone tries to put a negative spin on it, DRC went on to say that he likes seeing that from a young player and it shows he has the right attitude and approach. I'm all about realistic expectations and tempers enthusiasm, but it's getting hard not to get excited about this kid...

Harry even used to boss LT around. I think LT said something like Carson was the only guy he was afraid of.
Yeah, it's really encouraging that he's been in coverage subpackages. It's been all good news so far. Hopefully he keeps it up once the pads go on.
But I remember how excited I was about the offense last year, and we took a step backwards.
Are we overlooking the impact of losing Hankins? Especially against a team like Dallas - where you absolutely have to stop the run first?
86 days. Can't come soon enough. I got to get busy the next six weeks because there just isn't enough football news to occupy my mind and I'll go nuts just waiting for camp.

1. This TE crop is actually talented, excelling in various aspects of the position
2. Marshall >>> Cruz
3. Shepard year 2
4. Pugh/Richburg hopefully healthy, Flowers is in top shape
5. "Advanced metrics" actually point to Hankins having his worst season of his career last year. He hasn't played great in 2 seasons and the 2nd round draft pick has the potential to be just as good/if not better. Also, 75% of this DL is all-pro caliber, so I'm not too worried.
The OL is a concern, but the Giants played it smart by not reaching/overpaying to address it and indirectly did so by adding an excellent blocking TE in Ellison. He will make a big difference in both the run/pass game. Perkins replacing Jennings will also help - he can create on his own (and he'll need to). Marshall had me thinking SB as soon as the ink dried ... he's going to take this offense to the next level and is a huge upgrade from Cruz. The defense continues to field an all-pro caliber secondary/DL with what could be our best LB corp in awhile (huge Goodson/Kennard fan).
The OL is mediocre, at best, but this roster is absolutely loaded. If Engram develops into a Jordan Reed/Aaron Hernandez "weapon" ... this team can not be stopped.
I have never been so excited for a season to start.
Love DRC and am really excited about the prospect of Goodson developing into a true thumper in the middle.
chase blackburn was the same he never got the credit he deserved either his play against gronk was a key to thier win
Ha Ha!!! My thoughts exactly!!! Good One! LOL!
If you can't be optimistic in June, when can't you be?
LOL, cmon. I think most people are just looking for a step forward and like his potential. No one said Goodson has transformed into prime Antonio Pierce overnight.
If you look at it, Goodson was starting to eat into Sheppard's snaps by the end of the season. Sheppard didn't play much himself, so it was hard to notice, but it was there.
B.J. was a rookie last year in a very complicated scheme. He wasn't going to start over a 5-year vet with solid communication skills in a highly complicated scheme. Spags has alluded to this before, we've got 6 All Pros in that huddle. You've got to earn their respect.
I didn't even know there was a BBI Hall of Fame!
I can't wait to visit and see your bust in the Douchebag Section.
Spags is excited about his potential, I guess you'd condescendingly mock him too.
BBI Hall of Fame?? Hell, I have him in the NFL Hall of Fame. And beyond that, the Person Hall of Fame. He'll be Time Magazine's Man of the Year, and the upcoming treaty between the US and North Korea will be called the Goodson Pact in his honor.
While our contestant thinks about the question, here's the answer for members of the studio audience.

But nine of those came in week 14 so that proves the point even if he didn't get another regular defensive snap for the rest of the season
Absolutely nothing. The Goodson vibe comes from having decent parts at all lines of the defense, a year learning, and a guy that seems to have some bark.
Now lets see if he has some bite to go with the bark...
Carson today....would never had made the HoF in today's nfl
