NFT: NBA Draft - potential major trade

GMEN46 : 6/16/2017 8:17 pm
Reports out there are Celtics are strongly considering trading #1 pick to Philly for #3, Philly #1 next year and unprotected Lakers #1 next year. That would leave Boston with 3 lottery picks next year and 2 potentially in the top 5 with Lakers and Nets pick. I have to think Boston will use these to make a move for Butler or George and try to sign Heyward as well. Not sure if that can work capwise, but if Boston needed a cheaper option as much I love Porzingis if Boston offers #3 this year and Nets or Lakers pick and Philly pick next year then sign me up. I would hen swap #3 for #5 and 10 if Sac is truly offering that. Knicks would have 6 potential lottery picks in the next 2 years factoring in their 2 picks.

On a separate note as Knicks fans can we quit being Knicks fans and start becoming Sixers fans because that team will beyond awesome to watch if healthy of course.
Feel free

I'll stop bitching
djm : 6/16/2017 8:25 pm : link
When knicks fans stop advocating a KP trade. Until then I will yell, bitch and scream bloody murder. Trading KP is dumb dumb dumb. My god what is wrong with some of you.
I'd do it for those picks.
yatqb : 6/16/2017 8:27 pm : link
We're so far away from a good team.
And can the sixers get to 500
djm : 6/16/2017 8:29 pm : link
Before we even come close to placing them in any sort of awesome category? They have a lot of young players. Some have a lot of upside. They are still terrible.

Not saying they don't have a good future but it's all potential. Let's see it come to fruition before we buy in.

Don't trade KP for a question mark or two. Just no.
If you trade KP
djm : 6/16/2017 8:33 pm : link
You better be getting back a franchise player or a guy that lifts this franchise and keeps this franchise elevated. Picks likely don't do that.

I'll say it again what the hell is wrong with some of you. We finally draft a kid with legit chops and you want to trade him. Oh that's right KP has already been violated and corrupted and soiled by the toxic NY knicks machine. Naturally fans are actually entertaining the notion of trading him.

Lunacy.
I love KP
GMEN46 : 6/16/2017 8:46 pm : link
But this team is so far away and KP is def injury prone. If I have a shot at 4 extralottery picks, I would trade KP. I wouldn't do it for anything less.
djm, who in their right mind would want to trade KP unless it landed
yatqb : 6/16/2017 8:50 pm : link
a big haul? But KP alone can't bring us to legitimacy. Four high picks might over time.
A lot of guys love draft picks.
81_Great_Dane : 6/16/2017 8:56 pm : link
But a lot of draft picks don't amount to anything special. Look at any NBA draft and you'll see a lot of top-10 guys, even top-5 guys, who just never amounted to anything.

In general, any draft is a crapshoot. Draft position improves your odds but no one's a lock for stardom. Even the list of #1 overall picks isn't a straight list of all-stars and hall-of-famers.

Sometimes you get Sam Bouie and think you got an All-Star big, but the next pick is Michael Jordan. In 2009 Hasheem Thabeet went before James Harden, Ricky Rubio and Jonny Flynn went before Stephen Curry.

You not kidding. I starting to think some guys on BBI have their wives dress up as draft picks on role play night.
Sixers deserve a ton of credit..

It's a steep price but I'd do what it takes to get Fultz...
BurberryManning : 6/16/2017 9:33 pm : link
as an armchair QB I'd propose the 3rd overall, Lakers 2018, and a pick-swap of our own 2018 but I'd part with our own pick if need be.

I like a few of the options that should be available at #3 but each has major question marks whereas Fultz seems to be a rather sure thing, in a tier alongside of Simmons as a prospect (sub-Lebron but potential top-5). Get the guard and don't rely on an expirement of Simmons at PG

With Simmons, Embiid, Saric, Okafor, and some of the other younger role red players in addition to what should be five premium 1st round picks in the next two drafts...there are only enough minutes and roster spots to go around. The time has come for a Colangelo to cash in on some of the assets that Saint Sam earned them.
*next three drafts
BurberryManning : 6/16/2017 9:35 pm : link
2017: 3rd overall (and a bevy of 2nds)
2018: Sixers, Lakers
2019: Sixers, Kings
Danny Ainge
pjcas18 : 6/16/2017 9:40 pm : link
loves draft picks. This is before any trade of the #1 pick this year.

There was some chatter for a bit that Ainge was getting a bad rap....
BurberryManning : 6/16/2017 9:56 pm : link
amongst other GMs for resisting seriously discussing trade offers that amounted to anything other than a fleecing in his benefit. Apparently GMs got pissed that he wasn't looking for win-wins and just wanted Billy King-style deals that rational executives aren't interested in.
I'd trade KP
Earl the goat : 6/16/2017 10:15 pm : link
In a heartbeat if I could get bostons number one this year and Jaylen Brown Include Lance Thomas contract to as a salary dump

Knicks could have a lineup of

Fultz
Monk
Brown
Melo
Hernangomez

Plus over 20 million in salary cap
I don't think Fultz...
Chris in Philly : 6/16/2017 10:40 pm : link
is worth 3 lottery picks. Too much for Sixers to give up.

thomasa510 : 6/16/2017 10:46 pm : link
In today's NBA you need three superstars and a strong bench to have a chance.

The knicks have kp who could potentially be one of the three, melo who might be able to fill a third role, and the need for a top 5 player in the league.

Imho this isn't attainable except with extreme luck and the knicks will continue to rebuild, hopefully picking up a decent bench and stealing an all star in free agency to replace melo.

Funny how fans view their team

I am a Knicks fan.
SuperRonJohnson : 6/17/2017 8:43 am : link
That won't ever change. But I am not a fan of the NBA. When the teams slated to go to the finals each year are already decided at the beginning of the year, what's the point? Golden State- Cleveland. The balance of competition is a joke.
I hate Philly teams
PaulBlakeTSU : 6/17/2017 3:40 pm : link
but I love what Hinkie did and wish he did it for the Knicks. I think it 'sucks they got rid of Hinkie and while I want to see Hinkie's strategy to pay off, I don't want the Sixers to reap the benefit.
We'll see.
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 6/17/2017 3:43 pm : link
I read Cs might go after Davis if this trade goes down.

You get him and Hayward this summer...the East becomes a helluva lot more interesting.
Boston can afford one superstar
Deej : 6/17/2017 3:49 pm : link
Even with Davis' insane deal, I think it would be hard to fit him, Horford, Hayward, and then their remaining rotation players after a trade. They arent trading all of the 6 guys making 5-8 million or so. If NOH trades Davis they might as well hit reset altogether. Trade Boogie. Gather high picks and very young players, and redo this.
Reminds me of back in the early 80s

When the Celtics traded the top pick to the Warriors who selected Joe Barry Carrol for Ropert Parish and the 3rd pick who ended up being Kevin McHale.

You're right. It's like a 97% likelihood the Celtics get two HOFers from this.

Sixers to trade up to 1 on Monday

Quote:
And before the end of the night, the Sixers and Boston Celtics agreed on a blockbuster deal that will make Fultz a Sixer during Thursday's NBA draft. The trade is scheduled to become finalized on Monday.

That's a terrible trade for Philly.
Section331 : 6/18/2017 12:27 pm : link
2 potential lottery picks to move up 2 spots? They better hope Fultz is that much better than Josh Jackson. The Celtics now have the assets to make some major moves.
I think the Celtics
pjcas18 : 6/18/2017 12:32 pm : link
will regret this, they already had assets to just pick Fultz and add a big or a star in trade/FA.

Sixers traded #3 this year, plus the 2018 Lakers pick if it slots in positions 2-5 otherwise the Sixers keep it. If the Lakers pick does not exchange in 2018, then the Celtics get the Kings 2019 pick unprotected.

I think it is good for both sides.

I've seen numerous people right here advocate a trade of KP for the first overall pick and maybe an extra mid first or so. Lunacy.

Thanks for the clarification. In that case, not such a bad deal for Philly, and if the Celts really prefer Josh Jackson, than a good play by Ainge to get an asset.

It's not a remotely bad deal for the Sixers.

You haven't seen "our guy" play enough then. And how is a guy "injury prone" 2 years into his career? I'll take our injury prone guy over lotto picks that haven't played a second in the NBA all day long. Thanks.

Yeah, but NBA draft picks who bust typically weren't very wise picks to begin with. I don't see it quite like the NFL, where it's much more common for a player everyone believes to be a stud just flames out badly.
Allegedly the 76ers turned
pjcas18 : 6/19/2017 12:47 pm : link
down Jimmy Butler for #3.

I wonder if the Celtics do that.
