My dad - 62 years young - is on the market for a bat. He plays in a 45 and older league with guys who can reach 70 mph. He dropped a hint about wanting good equipment but looking at the different bats out there, I have no idea what all the specs mean and what to look for etc. Anybody know the ins and outs of this? Thanks in advance for any advice.
As for the bat, I am going to be checking out Beaver Bat Company online. A lot of parents on my son'd team swear by them. You can personalize the bat from the looks to the specs.
The wood bats are nice, but you have to account for breakage, which will happen when guys reach 70 on a pitch.
Tell your father congratulations on still playing.
He plays in the Ponce De Leon league down in DC. It's actually a 48+ league looking at their website but they dont specify bat types. I know he's used both wood and metal. So I don't think they ban anything or that there's a concern that way.
Thank you Mo! Do you find any composite/aluminum bats are significantly better or worse based on brand or price range? He was talking about Eastons...
If it's a wood bat league, that allows composite wood bats, nothing beats a Baum bat.they're pricier than most composite wood bats (usually around $200) but the durability and performance can't be beat. I've had customers show me they're 6/7 year old Baum bats, still in great condition.
Anyway, this is who I've used to get a few bats...they're custom made and there is considerable wait time depending on the time of year, but they've always been my favorite lumber...

I'll second the Baum bats, they are durable.
My son and his teammates have been using both birch and bamboo bats the last two years in their wood bar league. They also perform well and are very durable.
