NFT: Yanks vs A's 4:05 Time to snap this losing streak

superspynyg : 6/18/2017 2:30 pm
Cessa (5.40 era) vs Cotton (3-7 5.52 era).

Post lineups

Yanks need to add SP. Rumor has it that the Cards might put Lynn on the block. He would demand less than others like Gray, Quintanna or others

He is pitching well, is 5-3 and has a 2.69 era over 13 games. Im sure Holliday would love to have him. Cards have a bunch of young arms ready to come up. They could use young bats which we have in spades.

B.

So Holliday and Castro follow with crappy at bats...
Why are teams using an extreme shift on Judge?
BigBlueShock : 6/18/2017 5:02 pm : link
Do they not watch the games? Is it simply because they think they are SUPPOSED to, because he's a power hitter? It's kind of like teams that continue to bring in lefties to face Gregorious. The book says I'm suppose to, actual results be damned.

Hate Matt Joyce.
We just haven't been able to get the big out this series.
yatqb : 6/18/2017 5:05 pm : link
Lots of big hits, even with lots of LOB. But just can't get big outs.
A's continue to feast on Yankee pitching

Tie game. Brutal.
I'm willing to bet well over 50% of the

time the catcher goes to the mound on a 2 strike count, the batter gets a hit.

It seems inevitable that they guess wrong. Just an awful decision to go out an talk about it.

This road trip has been brutal.
I can see Cessa being a decent closer 3-4 years from now somewhere
DennyInDenville : 6/18/2017 5:09 pm : link
I know he looks bad. Just have a feeling he will have A good year in the bigs someday
Look I know the A's have one of the best home records in baseball
nyjuggernaut2 : 6/18/2017 5:10 pm : link
and the worst road record, but Yanks can't possibly get swept by this crappy team.
They didn't put Cotton
section125 : 6/18/2017 5:10 pm : link
away with all the chances they had and now Cessa getting bombed.
Anaheim's right at .500
NYerInMA : 6/18/2017 5:16 pm : link
but Oakland was 27-38 heading into this series. Injuries or not, no excuse to lose 3-4 games to them.

How do the yankees
section125 : 6/18/2017 5:57 pm : link
find these AAAA hitters every series that kill them.

And yes Green is getting squeezed by the ump, especially since he's been giving Cotton several high changeups nowhere near strikes...
So, uh,
Dave in Hoboken : 6/18/2017 5:57 pm : link
does this team plan on winning another game this season...or no?

It'd be one thing if this was against some good teams. But we're talking the Angels and A's here.

Have to say, while I still have a good amount of hope for this season; this road-trip has certainly tempered my expectations for this season alittle bit. Oh yeah, and fuck Tanaka.
This team really needs tomorrow's off day.

Dictated by where they are trying to pitch him.
FWIW,
section125 : 6/18/2017 6:18 pm : link
Chad Green is a better pitcher than Luis Cessa. Might be because Cessa is a converted fielder.

I like Green as the number 5. Good fastball. Decent slider and change. He could stick if they give him some rope.

The Braves will put Jaime Garcia on the market soon
Jay on the Island : 6/18/2017 6:35 pm : link
They have several of their young pitching prospects knocking on the door and Garcia is a free agent at year's end. Garcia has a 3.59 ERA and has been pitching very well as of late after a slow start to the year. He would be a solid addition and wouldn't require a big return unless the Yankees wanted Atlanta to include a reliever like Jim Johnson or former Yankee prospects Arodys Vizcaino or Jose Ramirez.
We seriously can't scratch another run or two off these clowns?
bceagle05 : 6/18/2017 6:48 pm : link
Taking this kind of ass pounding from the hapless A's is humiliating.

The thought of Garcia in the AL East scares the hell out of me. No thanks

this week on the organization deciding to start Chad Green last Sunday (when they'd brought up Domingo German to start, so they could give Tanaka an extra day of rest) and completely frying the bullpen for this whole road trip. 5 of the 6 losses were by one run and basically because the pen couldn't get it done. Hopefully they've learned their lesson and won't get cute like that again. That was a decision that lacked a ton of foresight. We won that battle last Sunday, but damn did it cost us this week.
What's that deflating sound that I'm hearing?

Too bad we don't see the A's again.

Could be onto something

Also I fell asleep but the game warren wasn't available and we lost Sanchez and hicks at the same time was a punch in the gut as well.

1 week ago today we were on such a high from destroying the O's
I'm not gonna go crazy about a bad confluence of events.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 6/19/2017 12:08 am : link
- Clippard lost 2 of the games on his own (nearly lost the only game they won on the trip too).
- Sabathia got hurt, which drained the pen.
- Warren got hurt, forcing them to rely on kids.
- Monty, Pineda, and Tanaka just didn't pitch well.
- Hicks and Sanchez get hurt, which shortened the lineup.

Thankfully Chap looked good, so they can skip Clippard altogether in certain situations until he gets himself back on track.
I just wish we had a little more flexibility
bceagle05 : 6/19/2017 12:15 am : link
to bring up a couple of kids. Headley's awful and Gardner's getting an early start on his second half nosedive, while Wade has earned a promotion and Frazier is knocking on the door. Once we get through Sanchez and Judge in the order, I get pretty bored.
