The 58-year-old NFL great was arrested back in Sept. in Palm Beach Gardens, FL -- and cops say he fessed up to boozing right before he was arrested.
Taylor initially pled not guilty to DUI -- but has since changed his tune after striking a deal with prosecutors.
Here's how it plays out ... LT pled guilty to 1 count of misdemeanor DUI causing or contributing to injury to person or property -- and in exchange he got 12 months probation and his license was suspended for 9 months.
He also got 75 hours of community service, ordered to complete a DUI education program and must stay clean from drugs and alcohol for the entirety of his probation. He must submit to random testing to make sure he's clean.
He must also install an interlock system in his car for 6 months which will require him to complete a breath test before his car will start.

I just read your post in the OBJ thread were you wrote
Ironic ain't it?
What am I missing?
If you don't want him to drive for 9 months, why freeze him out for only 6 months?
He makes no apologies for it, and frankly, I don't give a crap about all this stuff. He is who he is, and I love him for it. He's old enough to make his own decisions.

The 6 months comes after the 9 month suspension. So no driving for 9 months then driving with a breathalyzer for 6 months after that.
Same thing happened to my friend. His license was suspended for 3 months then he had a breathalyzer on his car for 12 months after that.

Very strange reaction. You love him for who he is and are fine with it because he's old enough to make his own decisions? Can't you say the exact same thing for any adult?

Yup, a lot seem to be judging him. My reaction is "That's just LT" I may not personally approve of it or act the way he does, but that doesn't matter.
Endangering the public by driving under the influence seems like behavior that is more worthy of being judged than being loved.
But now I have nothing but disdain for this train-wreck of a human being. He's had every chance anyone could reasonably expect to get a handle on his addiction. But what's he do with all these chances and goodwill? He drives drunk. How many people will get into their car, loaded and dangerous because, hey LT drives drunk?
Drunk drivers kill innocent people. People like LT, repeat offenders, should loose their right to drive and they should be put in jail.
Regardless, I don't ever want to see this garbage in Giants Stadium again.

That is an odd response to finding out someone was driving drunk. I guess as long as he was far enough from you and your loved ones.

What a ridiculous response.
It's fine to love LT the player and still admire him for what he did on the field, but to justify his dangerous off-field behavior and the mess his life has been simply because he's old enough to make his own decisions is bizarre reasoning.
If Lawrence Taylor had never played football.. actually, scratch that, if he had just never played for the Giants, I have a pretty hard time believing this would still be your reaction.

I think thats a pretty irresponsible stance when his decisions could potentially put other lives at risk.

I don't know the facts of the case. I do not support drinking and driving, but there are degrees.
What I do know is that I have met LT and he is actually a decent guy. Doesn't always make the best choices, but he does try. Those who call him a shitty human being should look more closely at themselves. Its an easy pot shot to take.
I simply wish him the best. Let's see how he does with his "probation".

"You knew Marcus Aurelius?"
"I did not say I knew him, I said he touched me on the shoulder once!"

We are not friends, but I did have an opportunity to spend some time with him.
If thinking he's a scumbag is judging than so be it.

Give me a break.
LT has a long, sordid history and is still getting into trouble at age 58. Stop making excuses for the guy because he was such an incredible player. If he had never played for the Giants, you wouldn't be saying these things.
I don't think LT is necessarily a "shitty" human, but I do think he needs to get his life together because it's not just about him, it's about the fact that some of his actions have put other people in danger and are extremely irresponsible.
I don't need to look more closely at myself because I don't get behind the wheel when I drink. Not even after one beer. Why? Because it's 2017 and there's absolutely no excuse for it. Uber is the easiest thing on the entire planet to use. You literally press two buttons and a car takes you wherever you need to go within minutes.
Calling LT a "decent guy" because you had what was probably a 10 second exchange with him is also silly.
He's a guy with a lot of demons who has been getting into trouble for years and needs to figure things out.
I wish nothing but the best for LT. He singlehandedly made me a football fan when I was a kid and I will forever be grateful for the player. But LT the man needs to own up and take some responsibility for himself. He's out of excuses.
DUI, getting tangled up in a pimp and prostitute dumpster fire, and who knows what else we don't know about. I hope he doesn't end up dead.
All the rest of the garbage he's done and continues to do just makes it clearer.
My father and brother-in-law were both caught and they were fine men. The families that they were brought up in, their education and their life experiences allowed them to avoid another incident.
LT has proven many times over that he is sufficiently addicted to alcohol to be unable to restrain himself from driving under the influence. Society must prevent him from drunk driving. The court may have been too lenient. But having him serve some hard time would not have helped his addiction.
I think that technology is about to make it much harder for a once convicted drunk driver to be a repeat offender. Hope that what is introduced is effective.
I don't understand why people bend over backwards to give him all of these exemptions just because he played for their favorite football team. If Lawrence Taylor was just another guy in the world, no one would be defending him.
And assuming other people have had a few and gotten behind the wheel doesn't make it any less dangerous or any more acceptable. It's wrong that LT did it, it's wrong when anyone does it. You're not just risking your life, you're risking the lives of others. No one should do it.
If he's got a drinking problem, which he clearly does, he needs to be more serious about getting help. He's the only one who can make the decision to address his problems.
As far as Lawrence Taylor's actions? Well, I have done things that could have easily hurt others and myself, drinking and driving not even included (yes, I have drove drunk). I'm glad he was fortunate to not hurt anyone else, as I was. But, I can't with good intention look down on him.
excuse for drinking and driving . Worse thing is there is no
indication that he is ever going to stop . So many alcoholics continue to push there luck so many have done
the same thing all the money in the world yet they still
take that risk . In my early twenties I got two DUAI's in
a three month span . the last 5-7 are rarely drink at all .
Up until then I still took many chances .
Lets hope that this wakes him up before he does kill someone or himself . Many times I have read about people who have dozens of DWI offenses and somehow manage to get there driving privileges back . Should be three strikes and your out period .Extended jail time to dry them out for a couple of years . Instead of it being a money making system that enables those with Alcohol issues to continue putting peoples lives in jeopardy . Can't defend him anymore he needs to look in the mirror and make that change get the help he needs .
