can you really make a big distinction between brands?
I always go with Ketel One for my martini's but found Sky vodka was just fine.
In a blind taste test in NY a few years ago Grey Goose came in last.
The old favorite Stoli is not as popular as years ago. The vodka market has exploded with different brands.
what say you?
This
Anything below Smirnoff isn't good for you. *grin*
Now, my main criteria is they come in a glass, not plastic bottle. There is some evidence that certain alcohol soluble chemicals involved in the production of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) can leach into the alcohol. The levels are low, but I believe in cumulative effects, so that's where I draw the line.
Best damn vodka for the money. Tastes great in Mules
Martinis are made with Gin. Bombay Dry (not Sapphire) is my favorite. With Dolin Dry Vermouth.
Belvedere is the clear favorite for my taste.
Can't say the same for others
Then I guess New Amsterdam isn't in the cheap category. I don't get hangovers. And maybe the hangovers are at least partly the result of the leaching of chemicals like acetaldehyde and terephthalic acid from the plastic bottles.
Would like to try the Costco brand since I learned it is what they serve at the Russian embassy. How bad could it be?

It's good. The worst thing about it is that the bottle is comically proportioned.
Tito's had been my go to for the last 8 years or so. Smirnoff is fine bake and indistinguishable in mixed drinks.
Even if you don't think you can tell the difference, there definitely is one.
Make your drinks with a quality brand one night and then a few days later, try making those same drinks with a handle of Georgi. I guarantee the odds of you feeling shitty the next morning will be far greater after a night with Georgi.
(Bad memories.. )
That said, I never drink vodka straight. Always with a mixer of some sort -- soda at the very least. So, my opinion probably doesn't hold much water compared to serious vodka drinkers.
On vodka, I don't notice as distinct of a difference and have read that there really should not be BUT I do like Ketel 1 and am of the view that it is noticeably better than Housebrand or Smirnoff levels.

Agree with glass being better. That is a good point.
love costco but VA laws prohibit liquor sales there. heard its like grey goose.
not that you asked but four roses is a great cheap bourbon too, straight or mixer for a julep.
+1. Plus it's gluten free so my wife loves it. It's our go to.
ATK - the Brita Test - ( New Window )

Dont sell yourself short. And by definition, "my opinion matters less than that of people who drink vodka straight" is selling yourself shot.
Winner: Smirnoff
I like Tito's too. Belvedere is OK. Not a fan of Grey Goose.
Go to the world's coldest vodka tasting room in Whistler BC and you can taste the source grains when the vodka is at super cold Temps.
Agreed ... Grey Goose is great but Tito's is just as good at a lower price. I think the label says it is distilled 5 times? Made in that vodka capitol of the world - Texas (go figure).
