Because Phil opened the door. Is GS "entertaining" offers for Steph Curry? Heck no... and not only because the price would be ridiculously high. Because that sh!t is alienating and rubs everyone the wrong way.
Yeah, the price fro KP should be ridiculously high. But we also shouldn't be talking about this whatsoever.
But we are... because it's the Knicks and it's Phil.
To be fair, a person would need their head in the sand or an extreme hatred of Phil Jackson to think KP and his crew have handled themselves beyond reproach since the end of the season. The original report said Phil didn't call anyone to trade KP, but that he was willing to listen to offers. Follow-up reports said the Knicks asking price was exorbitant, as it should be.
I'm not worried about alienating KP because that seems to be a 2 way street.
The higher up you go in the Knicks organization the more it stinks. KP is smart for getting out while he's young.
What player with talent who cares about winning wouldn't want to leave?
What does KP know about winning? He didn't play a lick of defense this year. He's worrying about how the team treats a guy whose previous coaches literally HATE him and hasn't played a lick of defense in a decade.
I have no interest in treating KP or Melo as victims of the organization. If they really cared about the Knicks, we'd see that on the floor instead of what they or their handlers say.

KP did play defense this year, and quite well at that. He was one of the best rim protectors in the league and consistently altered shots.
but saying he didn't play a lick of defense is BS. Trading him for anything other than a monumental haul would be a disaster. Celtics #3+nets #1+Young players at a minimum and I'm still unlikely to pull the trigger. KP has super star potential and he's still very young.

Flat out false. 5th best rim protector in the NBA this past season behind Green, Gobert, Anthony Davis and Myles Turner. Could he improve his man defense? Sure. But that statement is beyond false. He's ELITE at protecting the rim. He kept opponents to -121 points less than "expected", tied with Whiteside.

KP didn't play a lick of defense. That's just flat out ignorant.
There is a contingent here that turned on KP last year. It wasnt pretty. He doesnt play defense, has no BB IQ. etc.
I haven't turned on him. I do think people are treating him like a player he hasn't proven to be on the floor yet. I think statements like the one his brother released today make it appear as if they think about KP as a player he has yet to actually become.
But if your opinion is true, what's the opposite side... people who think KP can do no wrong and that any behavior from him is acceptable?
I do admit I have soured on him in the sense that even if he doesn't like the situation with Phil and the coaching staff, he's not helping this situation at all. He's not helping this franchise get better by adding to the media frenzy. I could accept this stuff from a guy who just had KAT's season. One of the reasons why I repeatedly defend Odell Beckham is because the on the field product is nearly unassailable. KP has a lot of potential, but the on the court product hasn't matched that potential quite yet. And until then, I'd rather not hear these comments from his brother or his handlers.
NFT: Knicks Jackson Not good influence on players anymore
Elite Mobster #32 : 4:35 pm
The younger generation, namely guys like Kristaps Porzingas have seen how Phil Jackson has treated a classy guy like Carmelo Anthony. Its a waste of time discussing trade because he controls a No Trade Contract.
Aside from obtaining the "Greek Freak" to team up with Porzingas, we can't identify who would be a help to the Knicks future from the NBA's current roster.
Carmelo is not at fault for the situation with the Knicks the fault is all Jackson's decision making. He has alienated his own players.
He needs to forget about Carmelo and find future players to fill the void for players he traded as soon as he took office.
There was value in Jr Smith, and Tyson Chandler.
There is a new season coming up I would like to see a nucleus of at least Porzingas, Melo and Rose, to be still on the team. Build a team, but trade talks for any of these players makes no sense- Its time to look to the Draft and develop from within but Jackson is not an positive influence anymore - This is My Opinion
but then hold KAT as the standard that any decent 2nd year player should have before they can do anything the want?
Very interesting...
We don't really want to compare KAT and KP this season, do we? Even with KAT's poor defense, that still isn't going to work out in KP's favor in any way, shape, or form.

No but you're holding the standard to a guy who might have had the greatest season at age 20 that anyone has ever had as the bar? And that season translated to a 30 win season at that. The Wolves are picking higher than the Knicks this year...why exactly would KAT be off the hook for anything he did?

IDK... he got 50 All-NBA votes (the highest amount for anyone who didn't make 1 of the 3 All NBA teams) this year. How many did KP get? Exactly zero. Like I said before, the way KP and his handlers have conducted themselves since the end of the season would lead me to believe they have a very high opinion of themselves. If he actually cares about making the Knicks a great organization, he needs to worry less about Phil and more about improving his own game.
KP didn't play a lick of defense. That's just flat out ignorant.
There is a contingent here that turned on KP last year. It wasnt pretty. He doesnt play defense, has no BB IQ. etc.
That contingent just has a weird coping mechanism in place. Blame the players it will get better if we just make one more trade or hit on one draft pick or sign the right head coach. Except it never gets better here. It just toggles from bad to worse to pretty good back to bad to comically bad to pretty good and back to bad. The cycle never breaks. Things never grow here. Nothing good ever lasts. Only bad.
What's he doing? He skipped a meeting. I think it was a fair and limited form of protest. Showing up at that meeting to hear Phil's garbage, like how the 3 pointer is cheap, would just reaffirm that everything is ok.

They're not treating Carmelo Anthony like shit. This organization allowed Melo to run a coach out of town. This organization has given Melo a ton of money. They've allowed him to do anything he wants on and off the floor. Guys like STAT, who everyone loved, couldn't stand Melo's selfishness to the point he broke his hand out of frustration during a playoff series.
I've defended Melo A LOT, but he's not a victim. No Charley Rosen article will ever make me see Melo as a victim.
No but you're holding the standard to a guy who might have had the greatest season at age 20 that anyone has ever had as the bar? And that season translated to a 30 win season at that. I think you're reaching. KP has clout here and around the NBA. If he didn't have clout no one would give a crap if he blew off phil. And it's a weird stance to say that one guy like Beckham can say shit while KP cannot. Again, KP is the most recognizable player on the team. He could command the league max in his sleep if he was a FA this very moment. And how do you know what is really going on behind closed doors at msg? At what point is a player in the right?? For all we know KP should have done more than just blow phil off. It's a fucking circus.
Shockey what are you talking about " woory about his game?" Â
Critical to everyone's job but his own!
No one will be happy about the Knicks drafting them outside of the paycheck. He is the guy who put the Knicks in this position. He made all those stupid trades and keeps creating drama. Going to the Media before talking to a guy? Do trust a boss like that? Who does that?
He made all the trades- Disrespectful
He wants to trade Melo, yet resigns him to a no-trade contract. He trades JR and Iman for a 2nd round pick. He loves the triangle, yet drafts players who don't know it, signs free agents who don't want to play it, and signs coaches who don't want to coach it.
Never thought I would say this, but -- he is as bad, if not worse, than Isiah.
I predicted that! Not surprised the Lakers would turn it down, but those are the only types of offers Phil should be pursuing. Teams like the Suns or Lakers are still in rebuilding mode, so they're stockpiling talent. A team like the Celtics would part with assets because they're closer to serious contention.
Jackson is doing serious long term damage to the Knicks. Treating Melo like shit has ramifications. He's a true NBA star and is beloved around the league within his peers. I can't believe he's getting another offseason.
Even if KP isn't traded, shopping your 2nd year franchise player is good for business. And let's be honest, it's highly highly unlikely he gets traded. I doubt Dolan would even allow it. Atleast that's what I'm hoping. So what the hell is the point of this? And spare me the garbage about Phil using the media as a motivational tool.
Please god go hire a real GM and send Phil packing. Enough is enough.
Yeah I was willing to give Phil one more offseason Â
if he committed to rebuilding properly. But we haven't made it to the draft and I'm already pissed off. If you're not serious about trading KP, don't even bother with this shit.
How fucking hard is it to keep your mouth shut and take the best players on the board at #8, #44, and #58? The draft should be a fun night - now it's gonna be hours of Melo/KP/Phil drama and dysfunction.
has him in a shirt with Dark Green and a yellowish..almost cream shirt.
Here are the Milwaukee Bucks color scheme:
Milwaukee Bucks Color Codes
I don't know if I buy it isn't anything more than KP having some fun, but if I were to try and read into it I think the shirt looks like the Phoenix (mythical bird)
We need to go all David Griffin or Sam Hinkie up in this bitch Â
I don't know if Griffin will help us recruit LeBron (probably not), but one thing's for sure: Robert Randolph will say that LeBron will become a Knick.
Howard Beck ✔@HowardBeck

Guys like STAT, who everyone loved, couldn't stand Melo's selfishness to the point he broke his hand out of frustration during a playoff series.
I've defended Melo A LOT, but he's not a victim. No Charley Rosen article will ever make me see Melo as a victim.
Uh No thanks. Ingram may actually end up the better player

Phil is utterly classless. Maybe it worked for him as a coach. But as an executive it comes off terribly.
How fucking hard is it to keep your mouth shut and take the best players on the board at #8, #44, and #58? The draft should be a fun night - now it's gonna be hours of Melo/KP/Phil drama and dysfunction.

I don't know if I buy it isn't anything more than KP having some fun, but if I were to try and read into it I think the shirt looks like the Phoenix (mythical bird)
FWIW, plugged-in source says to "disregard" buzz about Knicks trading Porzingis. They aren't shopping him, though they have taken calls.

What type of cage does Jackson wear?
