Doesn't matter that the top of the order is up. Those are the roles in the binder!
Seriously. Why do we even need a manager? Just hand the instructions to the bat boy before the game. 7th inning = Clippard, 8th inning = Betances, etc. etc. etc.
No feel for who's coming up or the fact that Clippard has been completely awful lately. Tie game....7th inning? It's Clipaprd Time!!!
but you do have to wonder if the Yankees will regain their early season mojo. Tanaka's still a mess and CC's out six weeks, bullpen depth is an issue, we're stuck with the Headley/Carter combo for awhile, and Gardy's already begun his second half drop off. A lot to overcome.

The starting pitching hasn't been great, but the bullpen has been the problem in most of the previous 8 games. Clippard, by himself, has almost cost this team 5 games over the last 8.
Joe has to be smarter too. Why use Clippard to face the top of the Angels' order... because it's the 7th fucking inning? Betances should've been facing the "meat" of the Angels order regardless of what inning it was.
Hopefully, Pineda gets his head out of his ass soon.

Pineda gave up 1 earned run. He struggled the first two innings and if not for Carter whiffing on a little league charity hop grounder, that was all he would have given up.
I can see why the Yanks drafted 23 pitchers or whatever it was
is flat out not doing the job right now. I'm not one to normally rip him, I'm generally a fan of his. But Betances has pitched once in these seven games. And they've all been close games. That flat out cannot happen.
With Chapman back, no excuse to not have Betances in the game in the 7th. Fuck the defined roles.
is a complete organizational failure at this point. I don't understand the reluctance to move on from shitty veterans on cheap deals. It's like Stephen Drew 2.0
how to manage - and while I think that's a little too strong, I think the Yanks do have the organization set roles and Girardi just has to live when them until the organization says otherwise. Exhibits A, B and C are Carter, Clippard and Headley. Joe gets to manage them within the game, to an extent, but their roles are defined from above.
Just my $.02 - I was skeptical about his, but the more I watch the Yanks, the more I think it's true. I think Girardi is a good manager but he doesn't choose the players and he's given a game plan as to their roles. I don't think things will change until Cash goes to some form of Plan B, maybe over the All Star break (although Gleyber's injury is a monkey wrench).

I know Carter shit the bed with the lazy error and Pineda wasn't awful, but they need him to pitch better. They need him to get deep into a game. I'm fairly certain Joe didn't want to go to Shreve in the 6th inning.
RE: also - there was a BBI poster who used to say that Cash tells Girardi

Pretty sure that was Randall Graves. I wouldn't take him too seriously. Girardi is a good manager who is having a bad stretch of games. But he needs to learn to abandon some of his worst tendencies.

1 out from ending the inning, but yes he needed to go a little deeper - but again Carter's error cost him 15 pitches - about an inning.
I was listening to his interview with Francesa and he made a passing reference to Sanchez playing a little first base a couple of weeks ago, and how he (Cash) wasn't too happy about it. I doubt we'll see that again.

Now cut him already.
Wasn't drew the starting second baseman all year up until the last two weeks of the season because he got a concussion?? I would expect the same to happen with carter they will keep playing this bum just like they did drew,
Pull the fucking guy
So glad we put Clippard in there to face the heart of their order. Get a clue, Joe

You're absolutely right. I love Girardi but to keep trotting that gas can put in tight games is ridiculous.
I don't usually put it that way, but I agree with the result.
Holder isn't any better.

like everyone said before season..they are 1 to 2 years away (getting starters and etc) to being a legit contenders
