NFT: Prodigy from Mobb Deep passed away at 42

From Mobb Deep's Publicist

Quote:
“It is with extreme sadness and disbelief that we confirm the death of our dear friend Albert Johnson, better known to millions of fans as Prodigy of legendary NY rap duo Mobb Deep. Prodigy was hospitalized a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth. The exact causes of death have yet to be determined. We would like to thank everyone for respecting the family’s privacy at this time.”

Was about to post this. Awful.. 42 is so young.
I never had the pleasure of seeing Mobb Deep in concert

Was looking forward to seeing them at HARD Fest in August. Hope the rest of the group doesn't cancel and they do some sort of tribute.
For all of those who wanna profile and pose....

....Rock you in your face, stab your brain with your nose bone.

RIP to one of the realest.

Mobb Deep was he and Havoc. There wasn't a rest of the group.

RIP to a very underrated, very under-appreciated emcee.
Had a brainfart there and mistyped

I grew up on The Infamous. I still have most of their CDs next to the CD player at my mother's house.

I'm gonna listen to Survival of the Fittest, Shook Ones, Hell on Earth, It's Mine, Hold You Down, etc.

Perhaps my favorite song with Prodigy is "One of Ours Part II" featuring Jadakiss.

He'll be missed.
Such a great MC

RIP.

The Infamous will always be part of the important albums from the "Golden Age" of hip-hop.

I'm picturing myself in high school right now...late-night blazed out of my mind, sitting in my bean bag chair and listening to this entire album with my huge headphones.

Interestingly enough the same MC and disease referenced from 2Pac in "Hit 'em Up".

Going to throw on some "Drink Away the Pain" "Up North Trip" and "Trife Life" right now...
Great rapper,

Hip hop has lost way too many great artists way too soon.
The Infamous is such a great album

Just pure production with a consistent sound and mood - although I'll always regard the extended remix of Survival of the Fittest to be superior to the album version. But it gets slept on to this day from the albums of that era, better than just about any put out in that time period.
I remember when "Peer Pressure"

dropped.
I loved pumping Juvenile Hell in my jeep.
Prodigy killed it on "hold down the fort".
I was working overnights at Flushing Home Depot. I was a punk ass kid and Mobb Deep was in the background in a lot of the stupid things I did.

Queens hip-hop was the king then... RIP QUEENS FINEST.
Did they say what happened?

I think it was related to the sickle cell complications that he was hospitalized for. There's some weird rumor out there that he choked on an egg while he was in the hospital but I don't buy that.

Either way, really sad.

Was my favorite rap album of all time. Survival of the Fittest and Shook Ones can go toe to toe with any rap song IMO. This sucks.
I actually like Hell on Earth better than the Infamous
Elisha10 : 6/21/2017 7:53 pm : link
I love the beats, they are all so dark and hard hitting and a little more polished than the Infamous beats, but of course Hell on Earth has nothing like shook ones and survival of the fittest. Also, two very underrated songs, Hoodlum from the Hoodlum soundtrack and back at you, from the Sunset Park soundtrack (underrated basketball movie). They really fell off after Murda Muzik though, but those first 3 albums are what rap is supposed to sound like!
