From Mobb Deep's Publicist
“It is with extreme sadness and disbelief that we confirm the death of our dear friend Albert Johnson, better known to millions of fans as Prodigy of legendary NY rap duo Mobb Deep. Prodigy was hospitalized a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth. The exact causes of death have yet to be determined. We would like to thank everyone for respecting the family’s privacy at this time.” |

RIP to one of the realest.
Mobb Deep was he and Havoc. There wasn't a rest of the group.
RIP to a very underrated, very under-appreciated emcee.
I'm gonna listen to Survival of the Fittest, Shook Ones, Hell on Earth, It's Mine, Hold You Down, etc.
Perhaps my favorite song with Prodigy is "One of Ours Part II" featuring Jadakiss.
He'll be missed.
The Infamous will always be part of the important albums from the "Golden Age" of hip-hop.
I'm picturing myself in high school right now...late-night blazed out of my mind, sitting in my bean bag chair and listening to this entire album with my huge headphones.
Interestingly enough the same MC and disease referenced from 2Pac in "Hit 'em Up".
Going to throw on some "Drink Away the Pain" "Up North Trip" and "Trife Life" right now...
I loved pumping Juvenile Hell in my jeep.
Prodigy killed it on "hold down the fort".
I was working overnights at Flushing Home Depot. I was a punk ass kid and Mobb Deep was in the background in a lot of the stupid things I did.
Queens hip-hop was the king then... RIP QUEENS FINEST.
From these streets that we done took
You walkin' witcha head down scared to look
You shook cause ain't no such things as halfway crooks
Either way, really sad.
