Fleury and either Raanta/Mrazek will be better than many teams in the league. I am surprised that they took a pick over the chances to select Vatanen who would be a top pairing defenseman for them and they could have probably flipped him for more. Perhaps it is a way for their new front office to form strong relationships with other teams.
Rangers open at home vs. Colorado on October 5
Isles open in Columbus on October 6
Isles home opener (Saturday) October 7 at 7PM vs Buffalo. Love the home opener being on a Saturday night. I'm moving to North Carolina next week but am planning on making it back up for the opener.

congrats! what part of NC? Raleigh? Able to catch some Hurricane games?

Vatanen surprised me too. I'm not a fan of their goalie situation. I've never been a MAF fan (as he has three rings on his fingers) and backups are backups. Raanta I like (as backup) not a fan of Mrazek.
I think Vegas could have done better picking Staal/Dumba and Vatenan/Manson and flipping them than taking what was offered.
I think this is a difficult game to play -- I'm guessing that ANA and MIN agreed to the terms with LV before the protection list due date, and if they had not come to an agreement, MIN and ANA would have protection lists (and possibly rosters) that look different than they do right now.
In exchange for the Golden Knights choosing Haula in expansion and steering clear of, among others, defensemen Matt Dumba and Marco Scandella and center Eric Staal, the Wild has agreed to trade prospect Alex Tuch and a conditional future draft pick to Vegas, sources say. Link - ( New Window )
pj: Yeah, I think last year was an anomaly for him. I also think one is a declining asset and one's an ascending one. It just strikes me as awful asset management.
As shared with some of the Isles guys here, Staple tweets the Islander being selected tonight did NOT see regular NHL time last season. Unless it's Halak, which I sincerely doubt, that leaves us really with Prince and Mayfield. Sounds like it should be one of the two of them.
Lastly on why Mrazek is being exposed, I've read on the Wingin' It In Motown blog several times that Mrazek's attitude pisses the Wings organization off. Yes, goalies are weird, but he purportedly mouths off a lot, shows lack of interest, disparages teammates and tends to be a bit too cocky. They don't sound upset to lose him.

Out of the two I'd rather lose Prince but with the rumors that they're taking a ton of defense I'd assume Mayfield
will reportedly add Montreals Alexei Emelin to go along with Methot. Both are rumored to be trade possibilities once acquired. I have to with the exception of passing on Vatanen for a pick I think Vegas is doing a great job so far loading up on picks to build up their farm system. They will be the worst team in the league and they will have a great shot at the #1 overall pick next year plus the bounty of picks they have and will acquire.

Hopefully the Canadiens didn't have to compensate LV in any way to take Emelin. He's a top 4 D on most teams and a valuable trade asset. Only 1 year left under contract at a reasonable $4.1M cap hit, but sometimes that's better than being tied up long-term.
but Fleury staying in Pitt would mess up Pitts cap I think. Therefore McPhee can stick it to Pitts plans by not taking him.
Also noticed on NHL Net that Grubauer and Mrzack (sp?) are top choices for LV.
I feel like the scene from the movie major league.
Granted I am not an expert in NHL rosters...

Charlie: Most of these guys never had a prime.
Rachel Phelps: The facts are, we lost our two best players to free agency. We haven't won a pennant in over thirty-five years, we haven't placed higher than 4th in the last fifteen. Obviously, it's time for some changes.
Board Member #2: This guy here is dead.
Rachel Phelps: [obviously...] Cross him off, then.
Has changed his story again? Why should we even believe he knows anything? Gets us excited that $9 mill is coming off to ok maybe not $9 million but hickey or halak so still a good amount to now just grabovskis contract and a guy who barely plays. Can Art change his story 1 more time before the player actually leaks out?

they are horrendous
It's like the generic jersey from a video game that could license NHL rights.
Yeah, I said they're going to accumulate all the first and second round picks in 2018.
slight exaggeration, but I could see them with a legit 10 picks in the first few rounds.

Not being able to go to Isles or Mets game on a whim is going to hurt a little bit...

We never discussed this. Not happy, bro.

awesome..we'll hook up for a Mets/Isles game at a restaurant. I can clue you into the best places.
I frequent the Huntersville/Mooresville area. We can get the games on at Red Rock or Duckworth's anytime!!!
I like Mrazek. Think DET is being dumb.
Source tells me #Winnipeg's & now former #Stars forward Cody Eakin is a Las Vegas #GoldenKnights #NHLExpansionDraft #NHL

Mrazek was brutal last year. Was there a worse goalie with more than 40 starts? You think that was an anomaly?
Jimmy Howard, who I'm also not a fan of, clearly outplayed Mrazek.

solid 3rd line center on a good team. was not very good last year, but usually hits mid 30s in points. nothing to write home about.

yep, cross Dallas off the list now that you know who their player is.

I'm moving to Charlotte. I think Raleigh is a less than three hour drive from CHA, so I'll at least go to one NYI vs CAR game each year.

It came together pretty fast. I still expect to be in NY a half dozen or so times a year though.
no reason. as a backup they could do worse.
I am just not a fan of his, but goalies do have off years so who knows.
I'd pick MAF and Raanta easily before Mrazek - unless those teams had better other options.
and I still don't think MAF/Raanta or MAF/Mrazek is that great of a goalie duo.
I think this Vegas team is going to be near record setting for how bad they are.

Isles open in Columbus on October 6
If you scroll down that release it tells you the Rangers first two games:
Thu 10/5 vs Colorado
Sat 10.7 @ Toronto
Looks like islanders open on the road in Columbus on Friday night

Congrats!!

Sources lead us to believe LA Kings will be losing defenseman Brayden McNabb to Vegas Golden Knights in #NHLExpansionDraft
Also noticed on NHL Net that Grubauer and Mrzack (sp?) are top choices for LV.
My understanding is that VGK have secured via trades about 10 draft picks spread out over 3 years. So far anyway.

"I never heard of these guys....Mitchell Freeman???"
The 30 teams have been informed which player they are losing to Vegas. All are in the process of informing those players of their selection.
Here's what I have now with recent updates. Have to assume some players (Methot) will be flipped.

I'm hearing it's goaltender J-F Berube, as part of the larger deal between NYI and VGK:
