That clears up some JT and Duchene/Galchenyuk money. However, the crazy protected list still makes no sense if you were going to trade anyway. It's like they wanted Mcphee to have more leverage.
No need for money for JT this year. He's at 5.5 this yr. and next yr they have few guys coming off that will supply the 4.5 extra for JT.

tons.. between Halak/Kulemin, that's over $9M right there.

might not have been eligible since it says you had to play 40 games the prior season (if that means 2016 - 2017 he wouldn't qualify) if it means 2015 - 2016 he would.
I'll assume it means 2016 - 2017.
Still seems like too much IMO, but like I said I will never pretend to be an NHL roster building expert, with all the buyouts and multiple options for contracts and cap hits.
Wanted to protect their players. Like feelsy said the names mentioned above are worthy of number 15 overall. Last seasons roster had a great run and just missed out. Perhaps they got the right coach for these players. With that being said, tweaks need to be made, upgrades at certain positions. Sending Grabbos salary opens up a lot of them.
were pretty fortunate if it's true they didn't trade anything.
Emelin is not a top 4 D for them, might be for LV, but clears $4.1M to help re-sign one of of Galchenyuk, Radulov, Markov and/or extend Price. Galchenyuk still a decent bet to be traded.
...the unusual gritty Swede that still does all fundamentally sound and skilled things all the guys coming out of that developmental system do. Bad job by the Rangers FO...as usual.

If Eklund is to be believed, Galchenyuk for Staal + a pick. Haha. McDonagh/Gomez Part Deux.

Jeez.. that's like.. a significantly lesser return. They can't get more than that?
If COL gives that proposal the "OK," good for you guys - would be a steal.
I agree on it being a favorable deal for the Isles, but I have seen or heard nothing about this rumor to date, so I'm very skeptical and really lean more towards dismissing this.

"If Eklund is to be believed..." is a qualifier you can't use in a sentence. No one should ever believe him.

Elkland is a joke but Habs braintrust are not that smart so I wouldn't put another bad trade past them. They seem desperate.

gave up 2017 first and a 2019 second to protect Jack Johnson?
who were they protecting?
I wonder if the weakness of the draft pushed these GM's to keep players at the cost of mid-late round firsts.
Josh Anderson as well, And they got out of the Clarkson contract. The cap hit was minimized slightly by LTIR, but not fully for a team like Columbus that doesn't spend right up to the cap.
COL is probably Hamonic + Strome + another piece too. The either piece is likely either Dal Colle, Toews, Bellows or 2018 1st.
reel in that last piece, please.
mid-rounder would be better. I'm OK with Hamonic and Strome (although I think Strome has a nice career ahead).. but that 3rd piece is a bit much for me.
I was fortunate enough to see Dal Colle and Towes a few times this year. Dal Colle the first game look lost..by the last he showed fantastic hockey sense. He always finds the open slot.
Towes?? I had no idea about him. PG told me to pay extra attention to him one game, and I was shocked. He's not big, but he's a hell of a player.
I know little about Bellows.. he was basically non-existent in the WJC.
My take is that Toews is someone the Isles don't want to move
Not untouchable, but his development has been very good and I believe they see him as an heir apparent on D, especially if some of the top 4 guys (3, 44) or ancillary pieces (42, 50) get moved.
need puck movers in the biggest way and a center who can control the face off circle. We lose possession far to many times in crunch time situations both in the offensive and defensive zones.

It is counter intuitive but the correlation between faceoffs and winning is zilch. No one is winning or losing faceoffs at a big enough margin to have a real outcome. The difference between a 55% team and a 45% team (which would be MASSIVE outliers) is like 6 faceoff wins a game. 6 gets of the puck is just so little compared to all the other things on the ice.
The Rangers have been a bottom performing team on faceoffs over the past half decade and have finished no worse than 47%. To get to 50 percent is less than 2 additional FO wins per game. I wouldnt go out of my way to spend on that, per all the stats.
yeah.. I watched that. But in all of the other WJC games he was invisible.
I'm not saying he's not a good prospect.. just seems like an unknown at this point. Not a "can't lose him" prospect like Barzal.
I thought he was decent in the WJC and timely goals are a much needed commodity. Agreed though, he's not even close to Barzal and hardly a can't miss prospect.

well, this year will be an important developmental year for him (whether he's Isles property or not).
He's 19 and playing in the Juniors. He should be able to put up impressive numbers and get his game ready for the pro-game next year.
Certainly very calm out there; wonder if once one move is made
Jon Merrill. He just never fulfilled his promise. Maybe the change of scenery will do him good.
Moore over Merrill is a no brainer but I wanted to give Merrill one more year to prove himself. I would have preferred losing Lovejoy instead of Merrill.
reports of Dougie Hamilton being shopped are bogus, why shop a top 2 D and then look to acquire a top 4 D.
Made little sense to begin with IMO, but I guess if they felt they couldn't sign him LT get something for him, but he's signed through 2021 and still won't be 30 when the contract is up.
No need for money for JT this year. He's at 5.5 this yr. and next yr they have few guys coming off that will supply the 4.5 extra for JT.

He really looks like he has no desire to be there.

So you lost Beaulieu and Emelin on the left side.
You know what you need? A LITTLE BIT OF STAAL IN YOUR LIFE

Source?
That'd be a great deal.
If they accept that Islanders trade, which I'm dubious of since there is a trade freeze right now, I think they'd be taking less.
Quote:
How the fuck does Hamonic and Strome land Duchene when COL turned down Galchenyuk, Beaulieu and a 1?
Theres a lot of thinking that Sakic overplayed his hand heading into the March deadline and will have to take a lesser return.

He scored two goals in the final of the WJC vs. Canada and is leaving BU to play for Portland in the WHL this year.

Is this for Duchene? That seems very steep for him. If MacKinnon that would be amazing.
