Dak, I hope you're not intimidated by continuous blitzing this year my friend as starting with week 1, your ass will be pounded into and thru the turf. Link - ( New Window )
unless he improves his moderate-deep ball greatly in season 2 i'd wager his play regresses now that teams have a ton of tape on him. His downfield throws against the Giants were terrible.
Dak surprised the NFL by not sucking last year. He handed the ball to Elliot and threw on first down and second down vs base defense . Same formula that worked for Mark Sanchez his first two years.
Let's see what Dak has when Elliot is hurt, the OL is beat up, and the boys are down two TD's.
He didn't show anything in the two games vs Giants. Nada.
I think there will be a market adjustment and Dak will crash and burn.
Brady or whatever yet, but I think calling him the next but fumbler is going too far in the other direction. Had an impressive rookie campaign. It sucks, but don't be a homer about it either. Time will tell.

Agreed. I'm rooting for him to end up like RG3 and/or Kap. But the idea that he can't improve after his rookie year is a bit premature IMHO.
Dak only put up 2 300 yard passing games during the season. He wasn't the reason they were winning, he just wasn't making mistakes. Their OL and Elliott are their ticket to winning.
I think he will be less effective this year.
However he was very good last year. I was impressed by his play in the playoff game vs the Packers. I think he will be good but not in the class of say Rodgers, Brady or Luck. And how does Siemen have better odds than Eli? Lol
The O-line took a hit, Dez and Witten are year closer to that cliff they inevitably must fall off and I don't think Dak can stay ahead of the mistake/turnover norm forever. Like many others have already written in this thread, Dak's greatest accomplishment last season was not making mistakes. Except for the actual butt-fumble play, I actually think the comparison to Sanchize is fair.
Regardless, the Cowboys season begins and ends with Zeke.
During the latter stages of the 11-game winning streak...
...Prescott made a lot of key plays in adverse down-and-distance situations. While the running game obviously made his job much easier, he wasn't just along for the ride, managing the game. The two losses to NYG were among his weakest performances, which may lead Giant fans to underrate him a bit.
I have no idea how high his ceiling is. In that offense, though, his floor seems pretty high.
Fair enough, and a good point that we Giants fans may under estimate him based on the Giants shutting him down. But, is there any quarterback in the NFL who had more talent on offense? Witten and Dez are a bit long in the tooth but they're still + players. The Pokes O line was as good as it gets in the NFL and Zeke is a legit threat to score every time he touch the ball. Even role players like Cole Beasley are productive. He really wasn't asked to do too much last season. Not to take everything away from his great rookie season, but if there was a better offense for a rookie QB to find success I'd like to know. I will say this about Dak, he didn't seem to wilt in the playoffs. Probably more fair to compare him to Russel Wilson than Sanchize but time will tell.
I thought Wentz showed more promise in terms of making big time throws and reads. Much crappier offense too. Much crappier.
But I think some here are being way too dismissive of him. He was damn good bringing them from way back in the playoff game vs. GB. He could improve this year and he is talented. Like Parcells used to say: " Scared? I'm scared of spiders and the IRS...He's competition, we welcome competition".
and being the Cowboys QB puts him in this conversation. Dallas O line is responsible for Dak and Elliott's rookie successes. They are both very good players, but neither would have come near what they did last season if not for that great O line. So that will be the same again this season, I wouldnt bet on Dak regressing, I would actually think he will be moderately better. He can hit open receivers, and he will continue to do that, but he will never be Rodgers, Brady, Brees, you get the idea. I dont even think he's on Russell Wilson's level. But if the Cowboys continue to play well (they will go 11-5 this year and be the 5th seed) he will be talked about as one of the best, even if real defenses like the Giants shut the run game down, and thereby shut him down.
I was not one of those who dismissed his preseason success as "well, it's just preseason." But MVP this year? That's asking an awful lot.
Still, his performance, along with guys like Wentz and Siemian...Teddy Bridgewater...is one of the reasons I'd rather have the Giants keep only two QBs on the roster this year, Eli and Webb.
RE: Yea I'm not nominating him for the HOF quite yet
and announce our presents as the team to beat.
Giants 42 Dallas 13 The new Receiving core goes nuts. Cowboys Rookie secondary is schooled.
NFL network calls the game a fluke. Fox believes that the Cowboys always come out slow.

We're bringing presents? What do you get the team that has everything?
He was brought along slowly last year because they could. But for a rookie he did pretty much everything he was asked to do.
I think he's got a bright future. He seems pretty well grounded and he's already got a Masters degree.
From all reports he's a studier and a student of the game.
Along with Russel Wilson another guy who got credit for his RB carrying the team.
There's a reason all those short routes are open w Elliot. The w that OL? I don't think I define MVP the way that guy does
Wilson's RB really carried the team in 2015 when he threw for 4000 yards on 68% comp % with 34td's and 8 interceptions. Not to mention the 550 Rushing yards he added.
first, we need to remember that the odds are about balancing the betting money. So this tells you that more dollars are going towards Dak winning MVP than all but five NFL players. Why? I would suggest a lot of dumb Cowboy fans.
Now, I think Dak definitely had a stellar rookie season. Most impressive to me was how he was able to protect the football. Having said that, the Cowboys (and Dak) seem to realize that he MUST improve his pocket passing. There was an article in yesterday's Defenderdawg's post that described how they recognized that the Giants had beaten Dak by forcing him to stay in and throw from the pocket. If the Giants exposed this flaw, it is likely that other teams also recognize it. This means that Dak really better improve in this regard or that teams will be better prepared to shut him down.
Second, the Dallas offense is certainly a good one, but most recognize that it is heavily dependent on a strong running game. Will that continue? Probably. You'd be an idiot to bet against that. But it isn't a certainty. First, you have the switches along the line (2/5 of the OL is not returning). Second, if teams realize that they can stymie the Dallas offense by stopping the run and keeping Dak in the pocket, it is more likely that this will be a focus this year of opposing defenses.
the next thing that is likely is that Dallas with a completely revamped secondary is going to be tried and may have difficulty keeping other teams from scoring. If Dallas gets behind the offense will be challenged in a different way from last year.
I don't think Eli wins the MVP, but I think he could have an MVP-type season. He may not have a running game and will have to throw his team to victory. He has the tools to do that.
What will keep Eli's numbers down imo more than anything else is likely to be the defense. It seems certain that Coach McAdoo will want to play conservative if the defense keeps them in the game, just like last year. Playing with the lead doesn't really lend to spectacular passing numbers.
No matter what, I really like the week one matchup...
usually division games scare the crap out of me. This year however I feel good about it. The Dallas secondary is going to have to work out the kinks and miscommunications. They will probably be playing much better in games 12-16 than on opening night.
Also, I think it may be difficult for defenses to figure out the best way to stop our attack. I think they may try to double OBJ consistently early on, and it won't take long until our other weapons make them rethink that strategy. This worked last year, but won't in 2017.
Doubt it. My guess is that his catches are down (closer to 85), while his yards and TD's are high. But I don't think he gets to 1800. More like 85, 1400 and 15 TD's.
Reasons? More quality targets for Eli, including reliable targets on third down like Shepard and Marshall mean fewer targets for OBJ and fewer receptions. But all the other options for Eli means loosening up the defensive secondary for fewer double-coverages and more big plays.
More than nice and scored 24+ in each postseason game that year.
He's done more in the NFL to date than Prescott but never was this vaunted at any point that I could remember.
This year Prescott will come down to earth like all the similar QBs before him (Kap, Wilson, Cam, RG3), while homeboy Carr in Oakland just keeps ascending.

Of course, if that isn't joyful enough, the meltdown with Dez is the cherry on top.
