NFT: Waking up at same time each night

OnTap : 6/21/2017 11:36 am
For the last couple weeks or so I have been waking up briefly at the same time each night - about 250 am. Just briefly though - enough time to look at my watch, grunt, then go back to sleep. Other than that I sleep well, am not tired during the day, etc. It's just been the past couple weeks where this pattern has emerged.

Anyone deal with anything similar? Assuming I'm in good health, should this phenomena pass?
Have you seen Paranormal Activity?

Do the numbers 2 and 5 mean anything to you? Have significance?

Maybe February 5th... Something like that.

250.

Think about it.

I'm not sure if it was the same time,

but I've definitely gone through periods where I woke up briefly in the middle of the night regularly, but otherwise slept fine. At least in my case, it just went away - no idea if there was a specific cause that subsided, or if it was just a weird random thing.

I've had similar stretches.

I still rarely sleep through the night. I almost always wake up multiple times.

For me, I know it's a product of the stupid schedule I've put myself on and assimilated my body to.
Deep in your subconscious....

History
nccowboyfan : 6/21/2017 12:35 pm : link
Has showed that we were not really designed for a full nights sleep. For centuries people would sleep in two or more "shifts," they called it biphasic or polyphasic sleep. Many texts referred to a "first sleep" and a "second sleep." You would sleep a little while, wake up do some activity, and then return to sleep. I believe this to be why many still wake up in the middle of the night, wide awake. Others believe it to be blue light, etc, etc.
I think everyone wakes up during the night
RobCarpenter : 6/21/2017 1:04 pm : link
we don't always remember it.

If you are staying awake that's one thing, but if you are able to fall asleep and it's not affecting you during the day then I wouldn't worry about it.

Drink a glass of wine before bed. It will help you stay relaxed and sleeping.
Sounds like a simple case of

Actually, though wine (alcohol) may help in getting to sleep, it diminishes quality sleep.
I woke up around 3:17am. 3 or 4 times a week

81_Great_Dane : 6/21/2017 6:28 pm : link
It used to be normal and may be healthier. Link below is to the "historical norms" part of the Wikipedia article on biphasic/bimodal sleep.

Quote:
Historian A. Roger Ekirch[17][19] has argued that before the Industrial Revolution, interrupted sleep was dominant in Western civilization. He draws evidence from documents from the ancient, medieval, and modern world.[18] Other historians, such as Craig Koslofsky,[20] have endorsed Ekirch's analysis.

I don't have a good answer for you but I experienced the same thing years back where for a week straight I woke up at night and my clock read 3:33 every time. Freaked me out but it stopped. Interested to hear that happened to someone else.
