Alterraun Verner or Darrelle Revis either or neither

NYBEN1963 : 6/21/2017 11:56 am
Who would fit in best as the fourth corner? Revis struggled badly last season but he would not have to be the "Guy" here just fill in when needed. Verner is still relatively you and was once considered one of the better corners in the league. We still have some cap space and a few needs 1 of them being upgrading the back-up corner position.

if he's relatively me

he doesn't belong anywhere near the field.
Would love to bring in Revis

for a tryout and see if something can be worked out. If coaches think he can contribute then make a strength, strengthier. He's the same age as DRC.
Neither

They will not start on this team unless we have injuries.

4th and 5th CB will need to play on specials and neither are up for that.
Plus Revis is not playing on a 1-year vet min. His Ego is too big

Pretty funny ...should be "relatively YOUNG"
Neither.

The Giants probably have more confidence in Michael Hunter than most of us fans do. And my guess is they also want to see what they have in a kid like DeShaun Amos, along with the other guys competing for a roster spot, to include Mykkele Thompson.

There are still a ton of UFA CBs on the market, though, and should the Giants feel the need to bring one in, they'll most likely have several to choose from. Remember, they didn't bring Leon Hall in until August last year, and then only after the injury bug bit a few of their safeties. Hopefully that won't happen with their CBs this year.

The only problem with that is Revis still thinks he is worth a lot of money and the giants aren't foolish enough to agree.
Verner

I wouldn't go near Revis. He was always a bit over rated if you ask me. Not saying he wasn't terrific and even the best in the league a few seasons. But many made him out to be the best ever and he was not that in my book. Anyway, Revis was a great player but he ain't no more.

I think Verner is 27 so he's is 4 or 5 years younger than DR. He's be an interesting guy to have. Not too sure what kind of money he's looking for or the scouting report on him.

Peak Revis was not overrated. He was legitimately one of the best cover corners to ever play and will be a lock for the HoF.

I think he's pretty much shot now, but at his best, he was about as good as anyone I've seen.
Verner is also a cover 2 guy
robbieballs2003 : 6/21/2017 1:14 pm : link
so I don't think he fits our style of defense. In the past, Spags ran a ton of zone. Now, with Apple, DRC, and Jenkins he relies heavily on man. I do not see how Verner is a fit. And, where would he play? We don't need more outside corners. We need guys that can play in the box and match up with slot receivers. Also, to my knowledge, not Verner's strength.
Agree with Arc

Revis before that knee injury was as shut down a cover guy as you could ever hope to find. Definitely in no way over-rated.
Revis is washed up

Why are they available? Exactly
Just to be clear about Revis...
trueblueinpw : 6/21/2017 3:40 pm : link
I said he was the best corner in the league for several years. Not dumping on him at all. But, I don't put him in the same class as Woodson or Dimetime who were the best I've ever seen. Sort of a tallest giant contest I guess. Anyway...
why is it
NYBEN1963 : 6/21/2017 4:38 pm : link
that fans think they know what a player is thinking or what they want? Revis has made a fuck ton of money .He may not want to play at all or he could settle for the vet min just to get on a team with a chance to win another ring and really solidify his HOF status ..who knows where his head is at?

You don't think Revis was in the same class as Woodson?

I really disagree.
It'd be cool to have Revis in blue
adamg : 6/21/2017 5:37 pm : link
Taking that Leon Hall role. I doubt it'd happen though.
Arc: Woodson v. Revis
trueblueinpw : 6/22/2017 9:15 am : link
It's a fun debate, both great players. My affinity for Woodson is that he was always a special player who made special plays on special days. From high school to college to the pros Woodson always showed up on the biggest days and he always seemed to make a play at the biggest spots in a big game. Woodson could play, and did play, anywhere in the backfield. He could return kicks, punts, blitz, stop the run, anything. If I'm thinking of game changers, guys who are going to find a way to win and make the biggest plays in the biggest spots, Charles Woodson always comes to mind.

Revis was also terrific. He had a number of seasons where he played against the best WR in the NFL and he shut 'em all down. As a pure cover corner he's probably the best I've seen after Dimetime. Unlike Neon Deion, Revis was extremely physical in how he played the position. I think that was part of his secret in that he plain wore down a lot of the WR he covered. His technique was flawless. And his ability to shutdown the other teams best WR allowed his D-cos to things otherwise not prudent. Revis kind of fell off the cliff these past couple of seasons though. Not sure what happened to him.

I'm probably also biased because Rex Ryan was always humping Revis in the local press. Guy was just such a tool. And there were the Jets fans too. Such a pathetic bunch.
I can agree with that
Johnny5 : 6/22/2017 10:20 am : link
Woodson was consistently very good for a very long period of time, I mean he played at a very high level for what almost 20 years? I know he was drafted in the 90's. And sure as hell lived up to his draft status... lol. As a pure cover corner with good physicality I'd have to give the nod to Revis, but he did it for a much shorter period of time. That knee injury really ruined his elite status.
Bruce Johnson
DennyInDenville : 6/22/2017 12:17 pm : link
He's been healthy and dominating the cfl over 3 years now

Why not give him another chance?? He was a very nice little rookie when we had him and was an insanely amazing madden player.
