Montgomery makes 13th career start when he faces the Angels for the first time in his career. Montgomery last pitched Thursday in Oakland when he did not get a decision after allowing four runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. Montgomery is 2-1 with a 2.43 ERA in his last five starts and the Yankees are 5-7 when he starts. Montgomery has held opponents to a .186 average (11-for-59) with runners in scoring position. Meanwhile the Angels hope Ricky Nolasco can end a nine-start winless stretch. Nolasco is 2-8 overall and since his last win on April 27, the right-hander is 0-6 with a 5.58 ERA in his last nine starts. He is tied with New York RHP Masahiro Tanaka for the most homers allowed in the American League. Nolasco allowed two more Thursday when the Kansas City Royals tagged him for five runs and 10 hits in six innings. It was the ninth time he allowed multiple homers. Nolasco is 1-2 with a 5.91 ERA in four career starts against the Yankees. He beat the Yankees at Yankee Stadium in 2014 with the Minnesota Twins. |
Need to put up a ten spot and bury the crappy Angels. A winning streak starts tonight!
Yankees weren't suppose to be a serious s contender this season.
I guess it's porn for me tonight!
Monty has got to get tough tonight. You could tell from the body language last night that the Yankees are tired of this nonsense. Get a nice lead and never look back.
No Carter tonight? Sign me up!
This makes absolutely zero sense. First, he's already played in he bigs, so teams have seen what he's done at this level (and it wasn't good so far). If anything it's hurting his trade value. Teams see what a pile of dung we have playing first base and see we prefer that over Austin.
I hope your wrong. I can't believe they would rather weaken the team so they can make a trade.
Carter/Austin - ( New Window )
Really? And what exactly is Austins trade value? I'm guessing it's almost non existent right now. And they've brought him up before, so why suddenly would they want to "hide" him? This isn't a top 100 prospect here. Austin would likely bring very little back in a trade right now.

I hope he keeps hitting line drives but if he arcs up that swing a bit its going to be nasty.
WTF is going on with this guy? It is a between the ears thing?
8-4 chappman needs out of the 7th inning.
8-4 clippard needs out of the 7th inning.
meant Clippard.
Also.. keep an eye on this AA Ivy League 1B we got. He is interesting.. already 25 but is maybe in the mix
He talks about a lot of stuff including the Yankees
He comes across great
Nooney - ( New Window )
yeah, my takeaway from tonight is that Green is the 7th inning guy, and Clippard will take some kind of a rest. Girardi made clear in the post game presser that he's missing Warren.
I agree and I know Clippard would likely say no, but he could use a week or two at AA or something to get it right..he looks that lost

Think that Girardi is trying to get Clippard right. It was the perfect situation. Up by 6 runs. Right now Clippard is n a pitchers slump to say the least. He pitched very good in April and May. Getting Clippard going again is good for the bullpen and the Yanks. When and how that happens I have no idea.

After tonight, he might not mind going down or at least going on the DL. Especially now that the DL is only 10 days.
Why Girardi is so hell bent on this guy being so instrumental in whether the Yankees are successful or not is beyond me. The Yankees have a pecking order they stick too come hell or high water most of the time and in this case because he is a veteran he trusts him more then the young guns waiting in the wings. I don't know how you trust this guy. Even if he does straighten out you know he's going to blow one up again. He's not that good.
Green and Holder are much better options now behind our big 2
What would really help is if our starters could more consistently get the game into or through the 7th at least, so we didn't need 3-4 innings from the bullpen every single night. The whole staff looked a lot sharper when that was happening in April and May. Tanakas slump plus CCs injury have really hurt
Yup good points.
Sometimes you aren't going to score a ton of runs and your bullpen needs to keep you in the game. Granted the entire bullpen has slipped especially on the west coast swing but Clippard keeps pitching in those high leverage situations and has set a bad tone the led to a lot of the bullpen difficulties.
