NFT: Pain in the back of my upper arm.

MTN-G-man : 6/21/2017 10:08 pm
About 4-5 months ago I was using dipping bars when I felt a sharp pain in the back of my upper arm. Naturally I stopped doing dips, but last week when pull starting a pressure washer I felt pain and weakness in the same area. Any ideas on what happen? Tear, strain?
When you say "upper arm"

Where exactly? By upper arm, I generally think above the elbow. Also is it on the outside, inside, anterior, posterior? Does it only hurt when you flex/activate the muscle, or does it ache with any movement at all?
Have you seen Saw?

Can I be prosecuted for that post?

see an orthopedist
Sorry

it is the back of my upper arm Deltoid area. Not painful all the time. Pulling and raising my arm straight up above my head causes discomfort.
While I am no orthopedist,

I lift quite a bit doing tough movements that can be harsh on joints and muscles if not done right. I know a fair amount about pain that can result from over use that isnt necessarily an "injury" yet.

Last question, does it hurt when you press on the area where you have normally felt pain? Take a minute and apply pressure all around the area.
Basically what Im getting at is

If when you apply pressure there is no pain or just subtle soreness, it's probably just tendinitis and not a tear or something real bad. Its a strange spot to get it for sure, but if you were doing dips regularly, and not mobilizing that area before hand, that could do it.

If there is sharp pain when you press on the area, that migght be more serious and a doc might be the way to go.

Can you rotate your arm in a circle starting at your waist, and over your head back arouund to your waist? I know you said it hurts when it goes over head, but if it stops when you come back around, that is good.
Maybe seeing a doctor...

would be a good first step.

While I agree with you, people like me who dont have health care cannot just drop $$$ on a orthopedist visit. Just saying.

MTN, good luck, I hope its not serious.
MTN, it's a muscle spasm.
Tuckrule : 6/22/2017 6:58 am : link
You have a spasm in your upper back/lat area. I suggest using a softball to massage the lat and release the spasm. Lay down flat on the ground with the softball under the area that "hurts". Hold that position and don't actually "roll" just lay there with the ball under your back and put increasing pressure on it as much as you can tolerate you will feel the muscle release.
Thanks guys

I can swing my arm in a circle and it hurts slightly at the top of the swing. It does not hurt to the touch.
my guess is you have a shoulder impingement

is correctable with same day surgery
get that checked out

4-5 months seems long for a strain especially if you have likely taken anti-inflammatory and icing. Unless you just kept lifting and tearing further. xray/mri
